- 4 EASY knob turns you NEED to MAKE to GET the BROWN SOUND out of the 5150 overdrive!
Is it possible to get the brown sound out of the 5150 Overdrive? You bet, today I want to show you how. It's as easy as flipping a few knobs. Eddie's classic tone revolutionized rock and roll and it helped usher in the high gain amps of today. The brown sound is legendary for pushing old school low gain amps into higher gain by lowering their voltage and kranking the amps. Getting the brown sound of the 5150 overdrive is much easier today. Underneath the roaring high gain modern 5150 tones lies the bones of Eddie's classic tone.
The EVH is easily one of my all time favorite overdrive pedals. It is special in its eq and gain versatility
Looking forward to seeing you play with the Jets this fall 👍. And rock on 🤘
😂😂😂
Is the Tube Screamer really necessary? There's a gain boost button on the pedal. That should adequately handle the extra gain issue.
I also have a 5150 pedal and a Mesa f100. I prefer the 5150 distortion vs. the f100. I put an eq pedal in the loop of the Mesa and it seems help the 5150 pedal sound less muffled. If you have any tips for dialing the f100 dirt channel that would be great.
I usually like to push the mids higher on the dirt channel to compensate for it's natural scoop. If you use a 11 band eq in the loop you can change the sound to whatever you want it to be.
Great tone and great playing dude
Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm glad you were into it! Keep rockin!
Me personally, i really love the Van Halen II brown tone. It sounds like Van Halen the original, but it just has more to it. I dont know how to explain it but it seems more clear and yet still so distorted.
I totally agree, VH II has amazing tone. It's one of my favorite albums.
@@DustinAlford same here. Something about it just stands out to me, in a good way of course
all has to do with the studio production
My favourite is the Hagar era
David Lee roth
Doesn’t sound great. I don’t know if it’s the pedal or the active pickups…. Plus, you didn’t play any of the pedal tone low notes. Kinda hard to tell without that lower end.
Van Halen 1979 -1985
The best!
You definitely have that bite and that open-mawed midrange going!
Thanks man, to my ear that's what Eddie's tone sounds like.
Sounds like the guitar was slightly out of tune 🤔
Yeah, it's kind of a temperamental partner when it comes to making music together.
