    I was out of my comfort zone just watching! Great story telling James - this is something that isn't always commented on but is appreciated - sound effects included. I have to think that the descent down Dutch Wallet is typically done with touring boots so extra points for doing it with alpine gear. Also, looks like you made a great choice with your skis. Thanks for the great videos; this one is exceptional. Kudos.

      Thank you so much B Golden! I put many hours of additional time and effort into the little pieces of editing/music so it's super reassuring to hear that you feel like it improves the overall watching experience.
      Touring boots and maybe an extra pair of underwear would make the Dutch Wallet execution easier 😂😂😂😂

    KH is a beast. Skied a lot of places and while you can find some gnarly stuff wherever you go, it’s the lack of options for an easier run that make KH different. Almost every run starts with a mogul covered ridge off a lift, then a couloir, then trees, then big ass moguls and then a final flat run to the lifts right at end. Definitely a place that forces you to be a better skier.

    My ski buddy Andy and I stopped at KH on the way to Revelstoke (from Maryland) a while ago and Andy’s wearing a stocking cap, while everyone seems to be wearing a helmet. So Andy inquires if they are mandatory. The answer was “no, but everyone wears one”. Andy bought his 1st helmet! It’s easy to see why. Especially for the 'steep and not deep' Consequence, Old guy passing on what tiny bit he knows. Those are good skis, they bite well, hard, in the crust. Get the same ski, longer body still nice and upright, bend your knees more and sink hard out over your toes. For what I just saw at 2:35 ,, get forward and down. There will be a magic point,, you'll feel it,, where the bite is excellent as you press in the front of the skis and the turns become pure thought,, Those skis will turn so easily, the first time you get there, you will go out and over the skis because they will turn faster than you expect. Fairly straight line from knees, hips, shoulders,, do not bend forward,, bend knees to ankles to press the weight forward ahead of your toes. For you, for those skis,, there is a magic point where turns are so easy you can and will spin 360s without lifting from the snow. The carve and control will astound you.

    • @riseandalpine

      When you find that spot, you're gonna love it. It can be learned on the bunny slope with a minimum of pain. A suggestion to find that spot,, leave one ski at the top or bottom. On one foot, you have to press forward hard with chest and hips up and forward. One run on the left foot, the next on the right. Some bindings with am up and twisting release,, will not like the exercise. you may have to crank down on the heal release. You are gonna love it.@@riseandalpine

      Me, bad with knots.. noooo ;) 😂😂😂😂
      Glad someone didn't have to do rescue training coming to get me hahaha. I've got a 360 camera on my head so I can capture everything when I'm doing kooky things in the mountains.
      Thanks for tuning in Barb!

    FYI: strap for your skis so you can hang them over your shoulder - $12. I kinda wish I'd not seen Dutch Wallet; doesn't seem alike a great idea, however I now feel obligated to ski at least once. Heaven's Door on the other hand, would have to hit it multiple times.

    Going back to KH this January. Was there in January 2022 for a 35cm+ powder day so I didn’t do much fun stuff (it was incredible all around anyways.) What are the must do’s for an “expert” snowboarder who hasn’t done much extreme skiing like this.

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  Год назад

      It's funny how you don't want powder at this mountain if you want to explore! To be totally honest, everything is a must do hahah. For experts there is terrain everywhere. I'd say Ozone, and T1 are absolute must dos.

    I'm at Whistler for 5 days, and today was a 9.5/10, and also in the top 3 days in my 55+ years of skiing. But, the point of the comment is I needed some Whistler stats, and when I googled it, one option was Rise and Shine, and then I realized it was the same person doing it was the same person who I was subscribed to on RUclips. You might want to let those of us who are stupid realize it exists. I just got first seniors seasons pass for next year, and I plan to study the web site and learn what I can about Whistler and Blackcomb before next Winter.

      So jealous you were out getting after it this week! Thanks for the advice - I need all the visibility I can get!

      @Rise & Alpine Monday was a gong show, 70 minutes in line for the only gondola running, and another 45 minutes waiting at 7th Heaven, but the snow was excellent, so I gave the day a 7.0/10. Yesterday was absolutely amazing, the best day in a few seasons, so I'm giving it a 9.5/10. Today was almost as good as yesterday. However, there was a little less powder, but the visibility was better, so I give the day a 9.4/10.
      Overall, it's probably the best week of skiing in my life, and I still have 2 days left...( I'm not sure my body has 2 days left, though, lol).

    Trauma Specialist: When it comes to trees, the fatal impact margin begins at 15 mph. Some are cusioned by branches, others are killed. there are so many capricious elements in extreme skiing that lead to death. Trees, of course, get their revenge .... for trail cutting.
