I was out of my comfort zone just watching! Great story telling James - this is something that isn't always commented on but is appreciated - sound effects included. I have to think that the descent down Dutch Wallet is typically done with touring boots so extra points for doing it with alpine gear. Also, looks like you made a great choice with your skis. Thanks for the great videos; this one is exceptional. Kudos.
Thank you so much B Golden! I put many hours of additional time and effort into the little pieces of editing/music so it's super reassuring to hear that you feel like it improves the overall watching experience. Touring boots and maybe an extra pair of underwear would make the Dutch Wallet execution easier 😂😂😂😂
Kicks your but Horse is such amazing resort with the gnarliest in-bonds terrain in North America by some margin. Great video James and I was crapping myself just watching you get into Dutch Wallet, respect to you and Rob for doing it!!
was there in Feb - some of those knife edge goat paths were easily the most sketchy I've ever been on - mountain is no joke and basically an advanced only hill - they probably like it that way
KH is a beast. Skied a lot of places and while you can find some gnarly stuff wherever you go, it’s the lack of options for an easier run that make KH different. Almost every run starts with a mogul covered ridge off a lift, then a couloir, then trees, then big ass moguls and then a final flat run to the lifts right at end. Definitely a place that forces you to be a better skier.
Thanks Jacob! I appreciate you being here from the earliest days. It's the dream to take this thing full time so I can make even better content for everyone!
Man, what I wouldn't give to see you stomp some Summit County mountains next year!! Dutch Wallet reminded me of one of A-Basin's more renown lines on the East Wall.
Josiah! I'd love to do a big US mountain rip and A-basin looks sick. Need to grow this channel bigger and find a substantial sponsor to support me so I can drop the 9-5 and do a huge trip!
So helpful for the next time I'm in Golden. The only time I skied Kicking Horse I was caught in a total white out in a place called Feuz Bowl. Couldn't tell up from down but somehow found my way out.
Perhaps the most beater free skiing channel with good commentary and turns on legit gnar. Nice work. Get yourself a sidecountry vest like whatvest to easily put skis on your back.
These may be the best ski videos of any type on youtube. Ive seen endless hours of Alaskan spine stunt skiing. This is more interesting because it's something I can go and do with minimal budget and maximum pucker effect. I cant imagine nailing Dutch Wallet after a storm. Like falling down an elevator shaft full of love. I would definitely bring a harness and 6mm rappel cord of my own.
After climbing down I was equally frightened watching you walk around without skis on! That’s scary…get off balance and start sliding on your boots…woof. That was definitely a wild experience even from this side of the lens.
After thinking the last video was the best you've ever made...this one is 10x better. I would love to go to KH some day, but for now I'm stuck on the ice coast.
The Dutch Wallet is on a whole other level with that sick entry. Thoughtful of the KH ski patrol to leave that rope for anyone who's crazy enough to use it...yeah, I would. Reminds of Aiguille du Midi... in Chamonix.
The traverses you guys are making to get to the runs scare the friggin heck out of me. I can't believe these runs are part of an official ski resort. The entrance to Dutch Wallet is an official part of the trail?! Crazy!
Did the Dutch wallet last March. Was the most memorable experience on a mountain anywhere. Kicking horse I'd hands down my favorite resort. With 20cm of snow it would blow your mind how good it can be.

This was without doubt the craziest entry to run I’ve ever seen. Makes me wonder if on certain years there’s enough snow blown on that face to make it like corbets couloir kind of entry. Thanks for the great video.🇬🇧

You guys are amazing skiers! I can't believe there are even legitimate ski runs like this. I wouldn't even hike what you are doing on a lovely summer day, with a wide open trail, let alone ski this stuff.
Wow. Great video of my favourite mountain. The Horse is significantly better in a good snow year. 2022-23 had the worst coverage I have experienced in 15 years. Head back 2023-24 with big Pow and the place blows your mind.
Awesome video. Super gnarly stuff! One place that definitely has some insane in bounds terrain to discover is Arapahoe Basin. Probably not quite as wild as KH but good for sure. Also, one thing that is always very appealing to see is a view from the bottom of a crazy section, looking back up so we can get a broader view of what you just did. Hard to remember in the natural adrenaline flow of skiing, but just thought I would suggest. Keep up the good videos!
Thanks! I'd love to check out A-basin one day. You're totally right. I always mean to film the run but I get so excited that I forget to turn the camera around.
Great video! Seriously though, climbing down to a run with sketchy rope and not one carabiner? I started bringing rope around with a couple carabiners in case one of my buddies fell into a tree well. Never thought I could potentially use it to help get to a run 😂😂
Gotta wonder, James, why Rob the Mountaineer was down the rope in 2 seconds while you took what seemed to be an agonizing hour….just wondering 😅 My ski buddy Andy and I stopped at KH on the way to Revelstoke (from Maryland) a while ago and Andy’s wearing a stocking cap, while everyone seems to be wearing a helmet. So Andy inquires if they are mandatory. The answer was “no, but everyone wears one”. Andy bought his 1st helmet! It’s easy to see why. The mogul hill that looks you in the eye from the entrance reminds one of a sheer wall…
Rob is half man half billy goat... Me, my pants were filled with s**t. According to physics I should have gotten down faster. Glad to hear Andy's wearing a helmet these days. Kicking Horse will have that effect on people LOL.

Some of the couloirs and chutes are right off the gondola. The t1, T2 and Ozone hikes are about 20 minutes. On par with some of Whistler's toughest but Kickinghorse has way more extreme terrain per acre!

Going back to KH this January. Was there in January 2022 for a 35cm+ powder day so I didn’t do much fun stuff (it was incredible all around anyways.) What are the must do’s for an “expert” snowboarder who hasn’t done much extreme skiing like this.
It's funny how you don't want powder at this mountain if you want to explore! To be totally honest, everything is a must do hahah. For experts there is terrain everywhere. I'd say Ozone, and T1 are absolute must dos. Check out my full review video if you want to learn more: ruclips.net/video/O53d2-YH0Y8/видео.html
I'm at Whistler for 5 days, and today was a 9.5/10, and also in the top 3 days in my 55+ years of skiing. But, the point of the comment is I needed some Whistler stats, and when I googled it, one option was Rise and Shine, and then I realized it was the same person doing it was the same person who I was subscribed to on RUclips. You might want to let those of us who are stupid realize it exists. I just got first seniors seasons pass for next year, and I plan to study the web site and learn what I can about Whistler and Blackcomb before next Winter.
@Rise & Alpine Monday was a gong show, 70 minutes in line for the only gondola running, and another 45 minutes waiting at 7th Heaven, but the snow was excellent, so I gave the day a 7.0/10. Yesterday was absolutely amazing, the best day in a few seasons, so I'm giving it a 9.5/10. Today was almost as good as yesterday. However, there was a little less powder, but the visibility was better, so I give the day a 9.4/10. Overall, it's probably the best week of skiing in my life, and I still have 2 days left...( I'm not sure my body has 2 days left, though, lol).
First time I skied Consequences was by accident. Fully socked in I just wanted to look at the entrance but didnt know where it was, suddenly I was 20 feet in the air and fuly committed to the line hahaha what a blast
On a great day One Trick Pony used to be one of my favorite lines at KH. Get into the chute, ski the face, then hook a larry and send er off the lower cliff into an untouched powder landing
Did an un intsntional 150' drop there, i cleared the double road gap where the gondola road does a switchback, landed clean and then launched mach chicken off a mogal sebding je another hundred feet down slope.. broie my heel on impact that time.. this was during a whiteout that blew in mid run and ive ridden kicking horse summer and winter for over 10 years regularily at tgat point.. bottom line, never ever assume when on this hill. I was very lucky to survive
Trauma Specialist: When it comes to trees, the fatal impact margin begins at 15 mph. Some are cusioned by branches, others are killed. there are so many capricious elements in extreme skiing that lead to death. Trees, of course, get their revenge .... for trail cutting.
Yeah, that rock rope decent looked way sketchier than my 5 meter hand only decent down in a cave a while ago. I would SO love to send some of the stuff there!

Overall, it's probably the best week of skiing in my life, and I still have 2 days left...( I'm not sure my body has 2 days left, though, lol).
bro we gotta get u in a knot tying class haha. sick vid!
Yes Please. I'm knot tying level zero! Any recommendations?
7:25 actually no, arapahoe basin in colorado has a chute in bounds that you have to use a rope to downclimb into
Sweet! I'll have to check it out.
i was there just a week ago, did whitewall for the first time. definitely my favourite resort!
Unreal Noah! Whitewall is amazing.
Yeeeeeowwwwwzzzzzzahhhh! Dutch wtf! Awesome to see tho😅
I think they need to rename it hahaha
I know that go pro does visuals and adrenaline factor no justice. You killed it like a BOSS.
Thanks Randy. To some that climb might have been dead easy, but heights can really get to me. Felt good to push the limits!
First time I skied Consequences was by accident. Fully socked in I just wanted to look at the entrance but didnt know where it was, suddenly I was 20 feet in the air and fuly committed to the line hahaha what a blast
hahahaa that's absolutely wicked. I couldn't even imagine navigating that ridge in the fog. You've got donkey balls my friend.
On a great day One Trick Pony used to be one of my favorite lines at KH. Get into the chute, ski the face, then hook a larry and send er off the lower cliff into an untouched powder landing
I'd love to follow you into that on a pow day!
Glad you're okay... Kicking Horse is no joke. I wouldn't want to ski in a white out there.
@@riseandalpine i gad enough time in air to be alarmed, sad, and then accept my fate before i hit ground.. i was very lucky
Looks really intense! The Dutch Wallet in particular looks absolutely ridiculous.
The dutch wallet was very very ridiculous hahaha
This video makes me realize I don't ski T1 enough. Usually just lap CPR ridge and the chair.
T1 was my absolute favourite. Those chutes back in towards the resort like truth dare and consequence are unbelievable!
Some sketchy stuff. Nice vid. ⛷
Sketchy for sure haha. Glad you enjoyed!
This is Sick! Have you ever been to Utah? We have something like the Dutch Wallet at snowbird
Never been to Utah - I really want to make the trip out there next season!
Great footage fellas
Thanks Greg!!
A kinda-sorta-ski-rappel into inbounds terrain? Jeeeez I can't wait to get to Kicking Horse next year (but you won't see me doing that.)
I would not recommend Dutch Wallet without a second set of undies 😂😂
18:01 Fuck!................Whooo! Man, those two words go together. Forward or backwards!!
Like Pb & J
Kicking horse is fun as hell
the funnest!
Excellent skiing... fun video to watch
Thanks Greg!
Trauma Specialist: When it comes to trees, the fatal impact margin begins at 15 mph. Some are cusioned by branches, others are killed. there are so many capricious elements in extreme skiing that lead to death. Trees, of course, get their revenge .... for trail cutting.
Extreme skiing is very dangerous, that is for certain!
your killing it man
Thanks!
That was a freaking blast, damn skippy bra!
so crazy!
Yeah, that rock rope decent looked way sketchier than my 5 meter hand only decent down in a cave a while ago. I would SO love to send some of the stuff there!
A hand descent into a cave sounds pretty wild. Where is this cave? I need to know :).
You will not get me down the Dutch Wallet, no way. It's amazing..
🤣🤣🤣 You might not get me down it again either :)
Awesome vid. I'm partial to Red. This place frightens me.
Kicking Horse is absolutely frightening
no harness? cut up old rope secured to old weed what could go wrong. Great skiing though. would have been tempted keep the skis on.
10/10 chill soundtrack.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for sharing🎉
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed
Hahaha when a guy like us says "Oh shit!" You know it's bad 😂
😂😂😂😂
Dutch wallet has made me want to ski again after 25 years. Great video. 3 hrs away from home. Hmmmm
Your drive will take about as long as it took my to climb down like a scaredy cat hahah
How does this place stay open, didn't see other skiers, empty motel, empty restaurant?
It's often super quiet. I guess they sell enough passes to stay open!
