'Everybody Wants Some!!': Richard Linklater Shares an Idea for a Third Chapter in the Series

- It's been 22 years since Dazed and Confused hit theaters. That's a long time to wait for a sequel, even a "spiritual sequel." While in Austin for the world premiere of Everybody Wants Some!!, director Richard Linklater discussed when he first came up with the idea for the film and how it's changed over the years.
Everybody Wants Some!! stars Blake Jenner as Jake. He was a star high school baseball player and now he's joining the team over at Southeast Texas University. But there's still a few days before classes and hardcore practices start so until then, his upperclassman teammates take it upon themselves to teach Jake and the rest of the fresh meat how to navigate the party scene and make the most of their days before the new school year.
During my interview with Linklater he broke down what inspired him to make the movie, how the script changed leading up to production, the idea he might explore if he were to make a third chapter of the series, and more. Everybody Wants Some!! hits select theaters on March 30th.

Richard Linklater really knows how to make characteristic films, enjoy both this film and dazed and confused

The interviewer, I'd kill to see that/ oh god I'd love to see that/ that would be a great mini series
+Cleetus Productions 1. It’s Richard Linklater. I’ll watch/read anything he does. 2. Those responses will make more sense after you see the movie. It’s kind of like Dazed and Confused in that the characters don’t have to win the big game or achieve anything super specific. It’s more about just hanging out with them in their world for two hours, and that leaves you wanting to spend more time with them in the end.

I kind of felt like this was Boyhood 2 in sorts. Had a lot of the same themes from Boyhood.

If you get passed the bro-ness of athletes from the early 80's you'll make it out just fine because there's an incredibly sincere and mindful film within this comedy. Like most Linklater films! Haha

grossed under 2M in 3 weeks..your movie tanked
it was a limited release. It only played in a total of 454 theaters over 51 days and it grossed 3.4mil domestically. Compare that to lets say Deadpool. Which at its widest release simultaneously played in 3,856 theaters around the country, was in theaters for 126 days and grossed 363mil domestically. I'm not saying Everybody Wants Some broke any box office records, but it did pretty well for a small release independent film.
