The mistake that caused the stalemate and the statement "Gods and his saints were asleep" in England, thankfully Henry II repaired things.
Except for the Thomas Becket situation. Henry II early years were best.

It's interesting that it was the Anglo-Saxons, in the form of the citizens of London, who decided who would be king (or queen) pretty well irrespective of what the aristocracy thought. They were to act as arbiters again during the Barons' War of 1213-1217: while the Londoners supported the Dauphin he prospered; after John died the citizens gradually switched to supporting his son (later Henry III) which led to a humiliating defeat for the pretender. The same happened during the Wars of the Roses when London supported Edward IV, and yet again during the Civil War: it was the London Trained Bands that protected Parliament and repelled Charles I at Turnham Green.
The people who live in the capital, whether it is London during the Middle Ages, or Paris, or Washington DC, have always played an outsized role compared to more distant populations.

To put it bluntly, Matilda botched it badly in the moment of her ultimate triumph, when the crown was there for the taking. As where Stephen lacked ruthlessness, Matilda lacked charm and ability to be conciliatory, making those she needed to be allies into enemies. Leading to the revitalising of the royalist cause with victory at Winchester and prisoner exchange that followed it.
Interesting sidenote: JohnFitzGilbert was also known as John Marshal for his position as the Marshal of the hourses at the royal court. One of his sons was William Marshal who would become one of the greatest knights of all time.
Yea, he served under four kings (six, if you include HtYK and Louis).
Since I did not know this story before I was genuinely surprised at the turn of fortunes. History once again proves to be better than fiction.

Stephen should have been more ruthless early on in the war. When he had the opportunity put Matilda in a convent and executed the nobles that supported her. Decades later Edward 1 would not make these mistakes! Sometimes a King has to rule with the sword before he can rule in Peace.

Stephen's reign was cut short by his defeat at Lincoln, but he fought valiantly and Matilda wasted no time seeking the support of her cousin, Henry.

It's quite irritating knowing that Empress Matilda had initially succeeded in her goal to take the throne but then threw it in the gutter all over her alienation towards the people and her allies with her rugged attitude

Empress Matilda was a poor practitioner of the art of statecraft and diplomacy. Arrogant rulers usually have short reigns. Machiavelli stated if you do not have the heart of the people, as a ruler you have nothing.
She also appeared to grossly underestimated Queen Matilda.

I know GRRM based "House of The Dragon" on the English Anarchy, so I am sure this particular battle from the video influenced something from his book.
Yeah, the riot in King's Landing and the storming of the Dragonpit that forced Rhaenyra to flee the city.

You are joking! Richard I was a disaster. Only spent 9 months of a 13 year reign in England, bled the country to fund his crusade, murder Jews in Augsburg, bled the country again to pay his ransom & then expelled Jews from England because he refused to repay the loans and was responsible for all the problems his younger brother John inflicted on the country. Don't believe the fairy tale of "Coeur de Lion"

@HistoryMarche.. Can u make on Asian history too? Specially Chinese history starting from warring era? My humble request.. Also i think u have a lack of Asian history in this channel.. So.....
His channel is relatively Eurocentric with not a lot of battles in Africa Asia or the Middle East. It’s understandable because it’s his focus and it’s hard to find sources on Especially African and non Chinese or Indian Asian history. I reccomend making it yourself I’m going to.
