I just disassembled my ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 8GB (11GBPS model) and it was completely different from the one in the video. I prepurchased all the thermal pads based on the information from this video but none of them were the right size. For anyone attempting this in the future, you really do not need the thermal pads if you are just replacing the thermal paste. All my thermal pads were in good condition and were held under the brace, they did not need to come off to do the thermal paste. Only 1 extra pad laid on top of the brace and touched the heatsink fins but it did not need to be replaced. In total there were 5 thermal pads (3x VRAM, 1x VRM and 1x on top of the brace)
Is it possible to tell us what length and thickness is the silicone tube for the RGB? I want to change mine but do not know exact measurements to order.
I looked into this a year or so ago, if I'm remembering correctly a 4mm side glow fiber optic cable fits nicely. I also seem to recall someone used 5mm, which did work but was a tight fit.
Thanks I just bought 2x GTX1070 Strix and 2x GTX1080 Strix this last month for $440 total from 3 different sellers in my area. My family got a upgrade. I already replaced the fiber optic cables to fix the RGB lighting and now I plan to go through all 4 and reapply thermal compound. I was planning on reusing the pads. Any good tips on where/what to buy the pads if I decide to go that route? Figured the GPU thermal compound was primarily the only area of concern. Also bought Gigabyte G1 GTX1080 for $120 and a PNY XLR8 1080ti for $140. The 1080ti needed a middle fan replaced. I ended up trying a old Artic Twin Turbo II and it mostly stays in the 70c range.
Thanks for posting this. I tried to get the information on thermal pad thickness from ASUS support, but they told me is is "proprietary information" and that the only way to install the stock cooler back onto my card (I had it water-cooled for several years) would be to send it to an ASUS repair center. Absolute bs that they treat their customers like complete idiots incapable of doing basic maintenance on their hardware. Out of curiosity, are there any thermal pads on the backplate? I will need to put stock backplate back onto my card, but can't remember if there were thermal pads on there anywhere.
nah you will need 3 times 70x20mm and 1 time 100x20mm with 1mm thickness and another one one with 100x20mm but 2mm thickness havent checked but should be correct

Pretty mediocre video. Doesn't even show the most important part of the process applying thermal pads and paste and then conveying that they need to have correct measurements and equal pressured mounting to the heatsink.

Just what I was looking for. Got some computer maintenance to do. Thanks for the video!

The fiber optic is a waste of time. Mine needed re replaced after a year at most. Good for a few pictures when it’s done I guess

It's not about customers being incapable, but rather about ASUS making money from simple things like thermal pad change.
no, there is no thermal pad on the back
