Went from 76 to 66 celsius with Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut now tuned at 2000+ clock on the OC version running stable at all times never going over 66 celsius. Thanks King
Same here bro from 87 to 65 under load, but i didnt notice the thermal pads ?? I only changed the paste because i dint have pads, should i leave it as is ?
@@mrrel4x I mean if you want to you can is the 65°C under full load or idle? If it's idle then def change the thermal paste if not then it's totally upto you if you want the extra work or not🤷🏻♂️
Thank you! Your video helped a great deal. I had a 1080Ti that I put an EK block on ages ago, and I wanted to throw the stock cooler back on so I could throw it in my living room PC. I had no idea where the backplate screws went, but your video gave me a good idea.
ABOUT THOSE TWO SCREWS! :D.. So, I switched up my thermal paste and managed to drop my GPU temps by a sweet 10°C. I was stoked at first, but then, mid-game, my screen went black, and the GPU fans cranked up to full blast. I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on but suspected it had to do with opening up the GPU. I tried reapplying the paste, but no dice. Everywhere I checked suggested high temps were the culprit, triggering the GPU's self-protection mode. But my temps were low-I even logged them right up to the crash. Then it hit me: my GPU only monitors the die temps. The real issue? Those two screws tighten the thermal pad!!! I tightened them a bit more than I initially dared, and like magic, no more crashes. So, pro tip: if you ever open up your GPU, leave those two screws alone!
Haha that is how I found this video. I was experiencing this issue but it seemed that my thermal paste was just dried out as I have had the GPU for 4 years or so.
Hi Rick, thank you so much for this wonderful quality video and explanation. I'm going to do this soon, my card is reaching 85 degrees under load these days. What do you do for grounding while working on GPUs? Is it a good idea for me to use a wrist strap?
I did on mine but the kryonaut dries out in 6 months to a year, just keep an eye on temps and if they start going up in 6 months you know what to do, i went with MX4 on the last repaste as i ran out of kryonaut, seems to perform the same on this card.
What about thermal pad why didn't u change them I got gtx 1080 ROG OC I am planing to replace thermal paste to but I saw some people replacing pads to and now I am thinking do I need to do that to or old will be fine?

Hi, i have the same gpu and i'm having an vrm overheating problem, after some time playing games the vrm goes to 100 degrees celcius and the game just close, i tryed to replace the vrm thermal pad and but it didn't work. Have you ever seen something like this? Sorry about my english
lower your oc settings then, and check fans if they spin correctly.... You can set rpm limit in some bioses...if its old card, could be bad capacitors...
i have a 1080 ti , it crash in every game ! I can format the pc , install all the drivers , do everything and my game will continue to crash... i can do the TdrLevel thing and it will not only crash the game but also freezing my pc ... Unless i undervolt my gpu in MSI AFTERBURNER !!
Is spreading the thermal paste really needed? Can you not just do the pee/rice size like you'd normally do a CPU cooler? EDIT: spread the paste, don't do the rice grain technique (explanation in the replies)
I've just bought some from my local PC store, and they said you need to spread it. Spread it because current GPUs do no have an IHS/lid like CPUs do, you're applying it directly to the die, so any uncovered silicon can die from overheating. Good job I searched for this! I would have made an expensive mistake otherwise!
Thanks for this no bullshit video! Straight to the point, and repasting made a world of difference!
awesome it helped. good job

Hi Dude. is there a reason why you did not use TG Kryonaut ?

I just change mine, it went from 81°C to 65 °C amazing difference.
Excellent, that will reduce noise and increase its life span

I don't hear anymore rocket engines in my case

Thanks mate, I had to remount the old fans and forgot how it was done 😂. Thanks, your video was perfect.
Glad it helped
The dry thermal paste on the cooler looks like a dragon's head. That's all.
ha ha! nice
Thank you my dude!! I thought a bought a garbage used 1080ti - turns out it just needed new paste!!! WOOHOO
Glad I could help
You are a good professional. You only replaced the thermal paste, but didn’t clean or remove any of the debris from the board 😆
thats all i said i was going to replace in the video :)
Wow bro such quality video and so little views... I liked the video keep making content 😊
Thank you :)
I like making simple videos that show all the repair and no techno music
Opening the gpu is a killer lol. Those screws are insanely tight
all fun and game when it comes to reducing thermals
Nice video, next time before & after specs. would make it even better!

It’s that a non static mat?
Also I know it’s been a while since posted but did you notice any temp changes?
No springs on those screws or did i miss them . I thought there was 4 spring screws
wow the old dry out thermal paste really look like a goat 😂😂

iv never had drama's with grounding, i usually make sure i touch metal prior to touching the card.
@@rickstechrepairs thank you !
Great Video thanks mate 👍🏻
I plan on showing my card some love too. How do you determine if the thermal pads need changing?
they should have an oily look/feel ro them
if they are dry and brittle I would recommend replacingn
@@rickstechrepairs I suppose they are highly likely to also tear into pieces when pulled apart from the cooler, right?
Thank you, didn't realize it was that eazy, went from high 80s to low 60s smh😅 should have done it awhile ago
great. that will extend the life of your card
Thanks 👍

What liquid when u about to wipe the old thermal paste?
Oh its isopropyl alcohol sry if my english is bad
