I showed up in 1952 also. The guitar is in better shape than me.
P90's are my favorite pickups for ALL styles of music 🎶
That was so cool. I have a 49 ES-125. I milled out a Mammoth Ivory nut for it. Made the shop smell like a wet horse. Also made brass bushings for bridge that are thinwall and take up gap between threaded stud and hole in bridge. This will keep me busy. Thanks Sir!
Cool sound, Tim. I'll never forget Nat's story of playing instrumental piano music in a club, and this drunk demanded Nat to sing a song. The owner said, "Sing a song, Nat." So Nat sang a song. That drunk punk opened a whole new voice for Nat. And the rest is history.
Just an awesome rendition. Love those moving rhythm chords. Love it
The essence of Freddie Green style
I am older than your guitar, by the way
Shally
I'm really loving this. So musical. Thanks
Thanks Tim. This turned a light on for me. My direction has been stimulated.
It most decidedly do shoop…………you’re a national treasure Mr Lerch…
Whoa, Tim's singin is pretty dang good. Love that guitar too. Thanks for sharing this.
you're comping in a swing style like Freddie Green
Yes, not exactly like Freddie (nobody can do it just like him) I’m using a bit more bass movement that he typically did since he always played in a band setting with bass etc and here I’m playing in a solo situation. I like to call it “shooping” cause that’s what it sounds like to me.
@@TimLerchGuitar yup, he played more of the tenor harmony lines to support bass. Arguably one of my most admired rhythm guitarist. Good to chat with you -- keep on shooping
Excellent 175 sound !!!!!!
Thanks.
This is niiiiice!!....enjoyed the guitar and the singing!
Dream guitar. Beautiful playing always!
Hi Tim, awesome as always !
Sweet! I know most of the chord shapes, but would appreciate the pdf. Thanks, Tim for the info and the 🎶🎵
Great. I love that chord sequence 👍🍷
Joe Pass played the 175 almost entirely acoustic (or with very little blend from the pickup) on his Virtuoso album (There's one song where the amp is the whole sound).
One of my dream guitars. I could hear this half acoustic/half amp sound on the Jim Hall/Bill Evans record. Thanks Tim!
Great tutorial Tim!
Such a great video Tim! I love the "shoop" phrase and your asking "Will it Shoop?" I can imagine you making a series out of this and demo various guitars :-) Naturally, I think you could make a passible sound with just about any guitar due to your experience and technique!
I loved the quick lesson and breakdown of the chord changes too. Thank you!
I've even seen pictures of Wes with one. Great guitar! Mine is a 54, very light, nice neck, and great acoustics! Congrats, sounds great!
I really enjoyed that performance!
dogears sound great even when the volume is turned down...! Great Tune, Thanks as usual. B-)
Very nice Guitar Tim!!!
I love my Blonde 1956 double p90 es 175!!
I heard Kenny Burrell mix acoustic and electric tones when he played in West Hartford many years ago.
It is a cool, cool guitar, way cooler when you play it!
The pup placement reminds me of an ES 165 Herb Ellis.....nice loud guitar...the older they get the better they resonate. Especially if you play them.
Also, beautiful playing.
Sounds great - do you favor the P90s on the archtops?
Really like the sound and performance Tim’’’adorable. One question, the main reason they started to make those archtop by laminated wood was for lowering the cost or cutting the feedback? Slds
My guess is what motivated them to go to laminated top was that they needed to make them more cheaply and more quickly and that the feedback suppression was a happy side effect
Thanks Tim, that's great🙂Could you please share with us the exact strings that you are using? I know they should be d'addario 12-52's but I have a hard time finding strings with such spec's here in Europe. Thanks for sharing all this nice stuff, it's really inspiring!!
The set I use is D’Addario EJ 21 I think the gauges 12 16 24 32 42 52 round wound
@@TimLerchGuitar Thanks, again! I found them and will try them out asap!!! Kind greetings from the Netherlands
I have a blonde 1956 double p90 es175.Plays like a dream.
Awesome playing as usual sir.. any thoughts on strings.. flats or round?
12-52 round wound
@@TimLerchGuitar D'Addario Nickel Wounds on this beauty… right? I have a 1957 ES125 which is similar to the 175 from that era. Gorgeous guitars! I don’t miss the cutaway at all till now 👍
Born in ‘51 so mine is a ‘51, had no choice.
Do they make PAF P90’s? I’ve heard that PAFs are microphonic so they pick up the acoustic sound of the guitar. Maybe I got it wrong.
P90s precede PAF humbuckers . They are two very different pickups
Hi Timothy, lovely playing as always. Really interested in this guitar though, and I heard the story of it (and your last 175) in your previous. Fact is, I'm looking for exactly this kind of instrument. I currently have a 1974 175, but I really want an early 50s with the single P90. I live in Ireland and it's impossible to get something like that here. How much do you think I could be expected to pay for an instrument like yours in the US? And are there many opportunities to buy them?
About $5K. I picked up a 54 last year for that much. I love it!
Thanks for that. Is yours as pristine as Tim’s I wonder? All original, with proper case?
@@nakedireland no. All original, but played a lot more than Tim’s. Proper case = yes
cookq ok that’s good to know. That’s about what I’d want to pay. I just need to work out how I would get it from the US without to much extra shipping expense, or killing the instrument in the hold of a long haul flight.
For this I suggest you get a cheap flight to the US and bring it back after playing it …
Perfect, I would like to know what chords are to play it.
Now I just need 10-15;g's
They can be found for a lot less have to be patient.
@@TimLerchGuitar they're not all that plentiful up here in Canaduh.
