I’ve been to many concerts, including several by Depeche Mode, and this concert was by far the best I’ve ever been to from start to finish.
Every song the whole night was great including from the opening act, OMD.
Btw, instrumentally I like this song better than Somebody, but lyrically Somebody is one of the most real and honest love songs ever written. Genius of song writing talents by Martin and unmatched sounds crafted by Alan Wilder.
Well stated, The Things You Said better music, Somebody real and honest lyrics. Grew up with both as a teenager and Somebody hit hard then.
It's true that Martin dressed weird throughout the 80's, but tbh, his weird fashion sense continues to this day!

You wait to you watch and listen to the Devotional tour, OMG they just kept getting better. I remember being outside Wembley Area for the World Violation Tour and they did a sound check for the drums. No one has drums like DM (especially now they have that rock drummer) It was an amazing concert which I thought couldn’t be topped but I was wrong
Not to be that guy but their current drummer does not fit their music at all. They don´t need a rock drummer who loves to do his thing as soon he gets the chance. I´m sure he´s a great guy and know how to drum, it´s just not fitting on the entire catalogue. This is my personal opinion (seen many concerts). Given up now, not gonna see the upcoming tour. But we still can watch 101 and Devotional in good quality. :)

Easily the best concert ive sat down and watched. Wish i were there to see it in person... But this was the year i was born! So i think i would have been a tiny bit to young 👶🤣
The guy with the hair and other people are actually the persons you follow in the 101 Documentary, they won a concert trip to Pasadena, i noticed him immediately :D and the blonde guy is hilarious
Love any love given to my beloved Martin. He definitely became a more engaging performer as he got older... And I always look forward to his outfits each tour 🤗
The stylish people in the small audience won a contest and rode a bus across the country to watch the rosebowl concert.. 101 documents their journey... It's pretty entertaining.

I prefer this over "Somebody" as well. And once again Martin and Alan's vocals together during the bridge (5:07) are fantastic. "I get so carried away. You brought me down to earth. I thought we had something precious. Now I know what it's worth..."

Another fun reaction seph. His clothes are alwas a bit different. The mohawk hat is a classic. I think he was given it by a fan and decided to wear it on tour. Probably the playing the angel tour.

Agree with you, I also definitely prefer "the things you said" over "somebody".
"Sombody" is generally overrated, "the things you said" underrated.
I have such a tough time with somebody, its just not one i really like to be honest. And its sooooooooooooooooooooooo overrated. Like damn. It's played in soooo many weddings 😅

To be in the first 10 lines on DM concert it is almost impossible! I've been waiting on my feeds in the 2nd line like 4 hours. That guy could be deadly tired, so why his face it is so blurred....

2:35 That's what I'd call Flock of Seagulls hair. Watch the music video for "I Ran" by The Flock of Seagulls and you'll see. I tried to get my hair like that buy my hair is too fine and would just fall after 5 minutes. I'd have to use 10 cans of hairspray.
I hope to make myself understood, on DVD 101, I watched it yesterday, after so many years, at a certain point, gahan talks about tiredness, in the locker room, that he has to get something to cheer him up, wilder is behind him looking at him, the her look says everything thinks gahan, it's my impression, but I don't know....flecth who speaks, at that time of glue to keep them together, and the boys, protagonists, when they go to cleveland, they say that the country is ugly and elvis boring, look at it!
That was the last time they performed live this song until 30 god damn years when they started playing it again. Still there is no story behind the reason of why they didn't sang this one of their best tracks again for 30 years.
It's clearly a celebration they started playing it again but a bit sad they're playing the album version instead of this one.

Hey I'm an early Depeche fan
It’s difficult at times to listen to Dave’s voice. Yes he’s the consummate frontman, but Martin has such the better vocals
I am hardcore fan of DM and i don't like Somebody .... and I love Things You Said !!!!
I'm the same , Somebody is not a fave of mine , never has been, i'll listen to it but only if going through the album not on its own. If it came up in concert I'd usually use it as my bathroom break,lol

While I think Somebody is beautiful, this one I think has a special umph that I like better.... Maybe it being in his lower tones but with still that brightness that defines his voice and sets it so apart, darker subject, simple and effective music choices. Somebody is sweet and light and pretty, a lovable song.
But I think this is a stronger song, imo, and I prefer it .
David's dark rich tones are special and Martin's bright crystalline tones are special, both voice are so rare and unique and got thrown together by luck of meetings....
...but for pure "beauty" I fall for Martin's voice. To include when he uses the lower end of his modal voice when he does separate concerts of his work rather than the regular use of the higher end to contrast Dave during DM stuff.... he manages bright without thin.

This is true. I have already seen Somebody. And it was very good live. Seeing the live version of that song made me appreciate it more then the studio version!
