Something i have learned from experience is that Usually but not always the handle goes clockwise to lower and counter-clockwise to raise the landing gear. Wearing gloves to crank the landing gear is a good idea, the handle have a tendency to rust and start breaking apart and can slice your hand really easy if not wearing gloves.
Please Please PLEASE, teach people to NOT run the gear all the way down(leave about an inch between ground and pad) or even worse put pressure on it. The trailer should fall some when you pull out from it(or better yet use the air dump). That ensures that when the next guy pushes under it doing so lifts the trailer. This is important for 3 reasons... 1) You're never perfectly straight when you hook, so you end up side loading the gear. If there's weight on the gear this can jam it up. 2) If someone has parked too close that you can't crank the gear you're F'd. If you've lifted it with the tractor you can pull out enough to crank it. 3) It's just plain easier, if everybody does this nobody has to crank on gear with weight on it.
I don’t know how to thank you about this video . Man I was so confused which is high gear and which is low gear and the direction of clock wise or opposite clock wise I thought all trailers were the same direction . That video was so helpful thank you so much ❤️❤️
They are really nice until they stop working... they they are a SERIOUS pain. Pulling them by hand in nearly impossible. Keep them clean and well lubricated to avoid it locking up.
Never had the bar come out and wack me but I never stand close if it does but sometimes u have to pull our to catch the high gear and sometimes it's not in or out but in the middle so I have to do that wiggle while going in and out to catch that gear and most of the time you can crank the way you want to go so if you're leaving the space then you crank towards the tractor or counter clock wise and if you're dropping the trailer or parking then you crank towards the back of the trailer or clock wise
I was recently assigned a new truck a 2021 Volvo and it doesn't have an air dump button on it like my previous trucks which were a 19 Volvo and an 18 freightliner. Just curious if you knew another way to dump the air out because I hate dropping a trailer knowing that I might be doing damage to my truck
No, there is no way. Just pull out very slow, once the trailer starts to drop, stop for a sec, then go an inch, stop for a sec... And so on till will the 5th wheel is clear. Then wait for the air suspension to level out, because if you start to drive right away you will soon out. The main drive tires are not on the ground properly till it is level.
What this video, there is a part where I drop a heavy trailer with no air dump. It explains all about the air suspension. ruclips.net/video/Hi1YXB7ScEI/видео.html
It means you only need to crack the handle 36 times instead of 360 times. When you are in low gear, it allows you to lift the trailer up or lower the trailer when high gear won't crank.

Super helpful video. I’ve watched your other periodization videos and watching this one cleared up all the questions I had. Big thanks 🙏🏽

Ok. I will make a video on that.
Would be great to get some visuals on that

Great video these videos are very informative and they do help us out greatly thank you.
Mine is automatic, Just push a button in the cab . Love the ease , comfort and convenience! 👍
Oh really??? I would love to see that in action! I suppose I could Google it...
Until you have an air leak?
@@air402 that's true , its convenient until it breaks, probably when its freezing winter day or pouring rain.

Thank you David!! I appreciate you 👍🏻

Omg this video is on time. I'm a new driver. I'm struggling with the crank
A lot of truckers struggle with the crank…. Nowadays you gotta watch out for those drug tests though, lol.
Dont use your shoulders to crank landing gear unless you have too. Shoulder injuries are much worse than slaming your knee once in a while
Thanks, they dont cover this detail in training.
Lovely beard
👍👍👍
❤️❤️❤️
Landing gears sucked as a new driver. Still get the random pia one but man does it get easier with experience.

What’s the point of high gear?
It means you only need to crack the handle 36 times instead of 360 times. When you are in low gear, it allows you to lift the trailer up or lower the trailer when high gear won't crank.
