    If they sold it with no fret slots and bound, it would be hard for any amateur to put slots in. Just pull the frets and refret: easier and not much cost lost.

    I just stumbled across this video ... a 335 workshop would be an INCREDIBLY cool idea. For a retired guy like me, I'd LOVE to have a 'helping hand' putting together a 335 kit!

    She's a beauty and she rocks!
    What more could you want, and for $300 it's a no brainer of a deal.
    The only thing I would change is to get a rear control plate as a template and cut an access hole and probably replace the pots.
    Fishing the harness through an F hole isn't my idea of fun.
    Everything else looked like a really fun project.

    Great job on that. I love the matte finish. I don't own a 335. I wouldn't buy a Gibson in a 335 it would be a Epiphone I would get. But... 335 won't be a main guitar for me or anything. I want to get one of these kits because I really think it would be so much fun to have something I created. I have bought so many guitars in my life I think I want to change it up. I do agree I wish they sold them with just the wood. I am going to do all my own parts on it. It's funny you guys said you would be guilty to not use the parts. That's my issue too. Thanks for the video!

    That 335 looks amazing. You know, the "Canadian Crippler" Brad Angove has been sponsored by Solo, and he's done several of their kits on his channel. I wonder how the two brands stack up against each other. Might be an interesting crossover opportunity, though it seems Brad's too busy with his new baby to pump out a lot of content.

  • @RocktCityTim

    Cons: the bridge and tail piece post holes should be sized for the hardware that is included in the kit. Totally agree that a bare minimum version would be great. I wouldn't want to tackle frets at this level, but choosing my pickups, electronics, and tuners would be a great way to move from Okay to great.

    Ok I’ve learned tons more from many of your other videos but this series has been highly entertaining and the end was perfect - I need beer and rock. Thank you gentlemen. Perhaps a kit series that deals with upgrades? Options? Firebird headstocks and fabric finishes? I did a 335 kit build myself about a year ago - quite content with the result but the kit was clearly not as good as that Stew Mac one.

    Killer looking guitar.
    Though I’ve enjoyed building several Partscasters, the entire finishing process is the roadblock for me on this kind of kit. I have tons of wood working experience, including staining and painting, but nothing to the extreme shine and flawless levels expected in electric guitars.
    Enjoyed watching y’all work, though. Please post a demo with just the guitar, running thru the various setting and pup configs. The gigging is cool, but we can’t tell what the finished guitar even sounds like.

      @@bldallas I think I understand your position... You want to hear the guitar in more, shall we say, laboratory conditions. Let me explain my position.
      I have made several videos as well as spent a bunch of time on a guitar that, while fun, isn't something that we make on a daily basis. Furthermore, I have done something that is, at the very least, unconventional by giving it to someone who had never played it and asked them to play it in front of an audience for 45 minutes.
      I certainly do not feel any shame, embarrassment or humiliation or any perception of having done something dishonorable, immoral, or improper. (Thank you Websters.)
      Remember that we are a working guitar shop that happens to make videos, not video makers who happen to make guitars.

    • @bldallas
      @bldallas Год назад

      @@TexasToastGuitarsnope, you don’t understand; it’s not “my position,” it’s not “laboratory conditions,” it’s simply how virtually all guitar building videos end. When finished, the luthier plays the instrument, so the viewers can hear his finished product.
      Regardless, I don’t care anymore. And since you’re forgotten your “community guidelines,” instead deciding to be argumentative, and condescending, I no longer care about your dumb channel. So FO.

    At about 18:20, Matt talking about the imaginary advice call to StewMac... "Is this that loudmouth guy from Texas, who's now in Colorado?" Funny, that's what people thought about me when I was still in Denver. Now I'm back in Texas where EVERYBODY is a loudmouth.

  • @dalepres1
    @dalepres1 6 месяцев назад

    You can make the holes bigger but you can't make them smaller so I guess the hole size is a pro. But they should include a bridge that fits the holes. The pie-in-the-sky things on the neck - just don't buy the kit; buy the body and buy a neck finished to the degree that other guy wanted. Kits are for people who don't want to do so much thinking about how to put together the parts needed.

    Regarding fret leveling, the StewMac instructions say to use a 16" radius block. Is the fretboard radius on this kit really 16"??? The Gibson standard is 12"...not to mention that all Tune-o-matic and ABR bridges are 12" radius. PLEASE, someone tell me I'm wrong.

    • @NathanSink
      @NathanSink 7 месяцев назад

      I confirmed with StewMac that the fretboard radius on these is 16". Why?!?!? 😣😧 Why would you make such a spec-accurate 335 kit and not make the fretboard radius 12"? I just don't get it. I was about to pull the trigger on one.....now I'm having serious doubts.
