I had my orthognatic surgery for sleep apnea, around the same time you did. Double jaw, 9mm advancement. I regretted it almost immediately, and to this day, I still do. It's been living hell. I needed a second corrective surgery 3 weeks later. I'm convinced the first op was botched in some way, but I can't prove anything. Surgeons cover up their colleagues' mistakes.

Great video and information here. Good luck seeing the specialist! Do you have any where I can see the before and after side profile? I have a similar issue you had :)

Thank you Kirsten for posting the reality of what can potentially be the result of this surgery. I’m 4 months post op, and I’m afraid this will be my reality. I know I’m still early but I feel if I was going to get any feeling back, it would have happened by now. The tightness in my bottom jaw is almost unbearable. I’m still hoping things will be better for me. You look absolutely amazing and I certainly wish the best for you in finding a positive resolution to the nerve damage. Peace and blessings!

Sending you lots of love! I had upper jaw surgery 10 months ago and am experiencing my first possible sinus infection. I am terrified that this is a complication and am starting to regret having surgery. Its been about 3 weeks with sinus congestion- I went to a doctor who said to wait it out a little longer. I'm hoping all goes well for you!

I had jaw surgery 30 years ago and still have numbness on my chin area. I am always telling people who let me know if I have spilled something on my chin while i am eating! My nerve paths in my mouth are all different as well. It is tricky for my dentist to numb a section in my mouth when he does any work on my teeth. I had no idea there are options to have the nerve fixed.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Tomorrow my djs + genioplasty is 5 weeks ago so I'm still fully in recovery and numb. It's a tough ride and I'm still waiting to get to the point where I start to get happy that I did it. I also expect to still need my braces for longer than the 6 months post-op that are basically "promised" whenever you start googling. Actually a lot of what I read online turned out not to be applicable to me. For example, I'm on a liquid diet for the first 6 full weeks and maybe longer, compared to only the 2 first weeks post-op that the internet told me before I could start soft foods. I lost a lot of weight by now, even though I make sure to balance my diet. My energy level is so low that I'm not able to get my butt out the door to make small walks and gain some new strength that way. My needed recovery right now is in the way of my wanted recovery, somehow 😅 anyway, I think everybody who has gone through this is such a champion and I envy those who can say "I barely had any pain" or "I was back at work after 3 weeks". I just can't imagine ANY of that 😄 the remaining numbness and different muscle movement in your chin and bottom lip must be so frustrating. I really really hope it will still improve for you. It is a very important functionality of your face that you use all day long and of course you want to be able to do that in a way that feels right for you, especially after the long road that's already behind you. Good luck with this ongoing process and making your decisions along the way! Nice if you keep us updated 😊

@@meike222 thank you! Everyone’s experience is so different! Watching a lot of videos can be helpful but can also make unrealistic expectations if you have a unique situation. I didn’t see a lot of information shared about this level of nerve damage so I wanted to get it out there! And I also did a liquid/smoothie diet for about 6 weeks post-op. Something I haven’t talked about in my videos about is how my attitude towards food really changed after the surgery. After being on a liquid diet for so long, I naturally just eat way less than I used to. I’ve slowly been gaining back the weight but once you lose that much weight, it’s hard to see yourself gain it all back. Overall, I lost 25 lbs and I’ve only gained 10 back. I wish you the best with your recovery! It will get better!!! ❤️‍🩹

One year out, and I've got the exact same numbness and constant tension you described. And it affects my speech at times. If I'm not careful, I also bite the inside of my mouth while eating. Good to know I'm not the only one. Surgery was still worth it for me.

You could move the hardware and wait and see if the nerve repairs spontaneously before doing a nerve repair?

    • @auralangst6177
      @auralangst6177 26 дней назад +1

Also, after moving hardware could try high dose Vit B12, B1 and B6 to boost nerve repair.. Plus Lion's Mane?

I don't know if you've already tried this but you might want to give low level laser treatment a try before committing to more risky surgery. Research looks promising

    Hello Kirsten,
the muscle you’re talking about is called „depressor labii inferioris“ right below the lip.
Just chad surgery a few months ago and I have the same issue but just on one side of my lower lip.
Been doing some research and found this interesting content concerning the stimulation of the damaged nerve:
    ruclips.net/video/DRBelRyZ4h4/видео.htmlsi=aTiTGerdB-UVnpW0
This might be a go-to before considering lasering or even any other major surgery…
You might want to talk to your doctor about this possible technology or see whether you could consider seeing the respective specialist in his office to get some advice on possible risks and success rate.
    All the best ❤
