  • There was shock throughout the world as the Iranian president was found dead at 63 years old, following a helicopter crash. President Ebrahim Raisi was killed along with the foreign minister and other officials and crew in the crash. The helicopter came down in the northwestern part of the country amid intense fog in mountainous terrain, Raisi was seen as a protege of the nation's supreme leader and helped oversee the mass executions of thousands in 1988. Iran has not suggested any cause for the crash. Pope Francis sent a message of condolence for the death of the president and all those involved in the crash. Senior Research Fellow with the Philos Project and an Iranian expert who has written 4 books on the country, Dr. Farhad Rezaei, joins to explain the atmosphere in Iran right now and the different reactions to Raisi's death. Rezaei discusses how Raisi's death and that of the foreign minister is shaking up an already tense situation in the region. He shares how the process for replacing Raisi is and who the likely candidates are. He tells us how the history books will reflect on Raisi's legacy.
