If we are ever to find a new world (even Mars) we absolutely need to resolve the issues on this world. China, ESA, NASA, SpaceX. Think about it, a collaboration that transends 20thC land grabbing and looks to the AI lead futuristic space alliance. Maybe this could finally unify the Earth? Or am I being too optimistic?

Humans are, by nature, competitive creatures. That was true when Grog and Ruferant were competing to make the "Best" "Stone Knife", 2 million years ago and true today.
In the early 1970s, Neil Armstrong traveled to the former Soviet Union and praised the Soviets' Sputnik Satellite of October 4, 1957 (whose 65th Birthday happens to be tomorrow, BTW!).
Armstrong said in 1957, we Americans thought we had NO competition in Space and so we were taking a long time to launch the world's first Satellite.
      ********
(On a Saturday in 1970, at a Meeting of my HS Electronics Club,
our Faculty Moderator (and Chemistry Teacher), Brother Francis Chinery,
said, in the 1950s, the USA was attempting to launch the first Satellite on
a "Civilian" Rocket, and frowned on the idea that Space would be "Militarized".
Of course, our Soviet counterparts had NO such restriction and so they
      launched Sputnik FIRST!)
      **********
Armstrong told the Soviet Space enthusiasts in the audience that, if the Soviet Union had NOT launched Sputnik in 1957, there was NO way that he would be walking on the Moon "only" 12 years later, in 1969! He said that, in that sense, the Soviets could also take some credit for the Moon Landing, since, without their Healthy Competition, it would not have happened for many more years.
Naturally, the Soviet Audience erupted in a round of applause!
It is hard to imagine those days of "Detente", when Vladimir Putin is threatening to use Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine!

The lunar south pole is not too big to take over (where most of the volatiles are). You talk like China isn't acquisitive. They have border disputes with all their neighbors, and they're trying to bite off chunks of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and constructing artificial bases to enforce their claims. If they are claiming water on Earth, why not on the Moon, too? Control of the Moon's water is control of the Moon. Control of the Moon is control of Earth's high orbitals with a source of materials. That, in turn, is the ability to blackmail the whole Earth with the threat of orbital bombardment. Also they can forestall us circumventing their monopoly on rare earth ores and acquire precious metals. The Moon has a plethora of military, industrial, and propaganda uses. They are still the Tortoise to our Hare, but remember the Soviets got a lead the same way and it took us 20 years to catch up. When the Hare gets lazy and overconfident the Tortoise wins.

    • @digitalnomad9985
      @digitalnomad9985 Год назад

@@DucaTech "what's SpaceX funding coming from?"
In the future, Starlink. The only funding for Starship they got from NASA is a pittance for the lunar variant and for a development of LEO refueling. SpaceX was the low bidder for delivering crew to the lunar surface (by a long shot). SpaceX is investing in Starship with the short term goal of cheaply deploying the rest of the Starlink constellation. Deploying Starlink sats with Falcons is a stopgap. According to what I have heard, Musk is gambling the whole company on Starship working. The only lunar base NASA plans to build is planned in cooperation with SpaceX (among other contractors).
SpaceX has a fixed price contract from NASA for the crew and cargo variants of Dragon (for less than they paid Boeing to fail), and they are swallowing up launch contracts, scientific, commercial, and military, by underselling other providers with reusability, so he has a revenue stream, but he's put all his chips on black. Basically, he knows that the old guard aerospace contractor is the "house" in this game, and the house wins all ties. He can't wait for Boeing to catch up with him on reusability, because if they can come close to his price, Boeing's political contacts will secure the contracts (at least the government contracts). He has to stay way ahead to survive.

is not the first time when the chinese were open for international collaboration for space programs but in the past US blocked them from ISS ( the only international space program). Now, China has a working rover on mars, a working rover on the other side of the moon and also has a state of the art space station seed in orbit when the old ISS is "dieing". Who would not want to piggyback the "new senzation"? Is cheaper to piggyback a working spacestation then to build a new one and china is building a 2022 spacestation . On the other hand, maybe US will not join the fun and will try to make private companies like SpaceX , Boening, Blue Origin to invest billions in an "american" space station ( for NASA)

    It's China's greatest marketing move.
Faster builds, quality, reliability, inexpensive, space option. If they can bring space manufacturing to investors before we have the first humans on Mars, then they will have a huge advantage of the consumer market before the US can write policy and faa or other government entity.
This only hurts US economics, well probably global. And with the rest of the world's education system lagging far beyond its technology, China will hold its advantages.

I don't believe that China's goal is world domination so much as world acceptance. Human rights: ask the Ughars.
      Pollution: China leading the way.
Intellectual property: China stealing everything they can.
Oceans: see China's fishing fleet turning off thier AIS transponders to illegally dragnet fish for everything in the Galapagos.
How much evidence do you need to recognize the dystopian future China is going to bring to the world once a communist country is the only superpower. The USA is crumbling from the inside and once China decouples its trade from US dollars, sanctions won't work to keep the communists from throwing a heavy blanket over all of human consciousness......and the whole planet will suffer the consequences just like the USSR. Most of the 10,000+ companies are clustered in just five sectors, company regional distribution...the US 52.1% china is only 2.7%. The U.S. government’s space budget is almost $41 billion, $23.3 billion of which is focused on NASA. China has the next-largest budget at just under $6 billion, reportedly, followed by Russia, France, and Japan with budgets in the $3-4 billion range. The United States spends more on space than all other countries combined, the report says, with its budget exceeding the next 15 nations spending by a wide margin.

Every investor and investment which involves Russia, is second guessing its future plans which involve Russia. Obviously, space is NOT an endeavor any nation wants to engage in alone. And obviously, without Russia, China has a much daunting task ahead. Developing a space program is something you do with a partner. China just lost their partner, however; they still want to dance. Time to reach out wether they want to or not. Without an experienced dance (space) partner, they dance only on the ground. Unacceptable to China after such a large investment. NASA has funded spacex and nearly ALL other space companies to the point of NEW and exciting technological breakthroughs. If you have an idea, they are listening. With Russia as their major ally, China has isolated themselves from the rest of the world. So far, only old man NASA has achieved something........ so far. Imagine how China will feel when ALL of these other start-ups and for the second or third time start agains, begin successfully launching rockets damn near daily from the U.S. and/or Europe. Either China changes or they fall behind.

Ahh...let's not deny the fact that they copy everything. Everything they have launched in space has been done already. Everything they offer in regards to space in principles has been done before by other nations. They are not as innovative as you may think. It's not like they'd came up with those technologies and ideas on their own all of the sudden.

My big question is who is going to be willing to work with the Chinese and after what their government has done for the past 3 years? No the CCP will have to first topple down then a new government established where it's values or more on the benevolent side of their population instead of one that is demanding of their population question is I don't think it's possible Chinese history has always been about Empires and dictators not likely going to happen anytime soon
