Great explanations! This helps a lot I’m almost 71 yrs old and have been wanting to understand this type of playing for quite awhile. Most videos I’ve watched they always seem to go too fast in their explanations, but I like your technique thanks for putting this out there.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write that! It’s exactly what I am aiming to do here on this channel; teach in way that doesn’t overwhelm…which is the way I typically learn new skills. I hope the week is going well!
Please continue to make videos like this. I’ve been playing guitar for about 6 years now and haven’t really broken through that intermediate threshold. Getting in touch with my bluegrass roots has inspired me to keep pushing and soloing and composition is really the hardest parts-making things yourself that you actually think sounds good, rather than always copying someone else’s tab
I have never played bluegrass before ! But after watching this I am hooked ! It's very similar to other styles I do know Like Mason Jennings Always good to learn new styles and adapt them to my personal style I have definitely met Scottish folk music performers that must be familiar with bluegrass Some of the runs you used were already familiar to me I just didn't know it was bluegrass I was calling it jazzed up folk music, which is really what it is
Thanks for the tutorials that you are putting out. 4:25 I agree that playing with a metronome is keep as timing is king in bluegrass. What I’m struggling with is what speed to set the metronome at so I can practice songs that I have learned without a metronome and get the timing correct. Thank you also for providing a lesson plan that doesn’t require a subscription.
You’re very welcome! I’d go as slow as possible, even if it’s 20BPM. When you have it slow, you’ll be able to play it fast. Best of luck! Keep pickin’!
Yeah, I think I see what you’re saying. I have to ultimately let the metronome drive and not me. Simple concept but my hands just don’t want to go so slow, haha.
Thanks for these great tutorials! They have really helped. I've managed to carry out these techniques without my left middle finger once the right hand started to play ball. It took a while😂
New subscriber here. Great info for sure. How about helping with rhythm? 90% of playing Bluegrass is rhythm. If you can’t play solid rhythm lead and licks are meaningless.
