We’ve been using aluminium foil folded into what ever size squares needed stapled to our MDF target boards for thermal targets for some years (cheap as), as our frame includes a shot marker we record results electronically within supersonic range. You’ll need to go through your scope palette selection to find the best one and play with throttling (if your scope has that function) and contrasts.
