+Johannah Carroll Red Planet from 2000 with val kilmer, carrie an moss and tom sizemore is also enjoyable. Last days on mars is also in category enjoyable.
No you need a really great story. The fact Hollywood revamp used stories and actively block talent proves every time an author breaches it with something this good Hollywood cringes and works all the harder to close the loophole.
I liked this show a lot but I always like Matt. One of my favorites parts is how they discover hes still alive on mars. That young lady did an awesome job!
Best Scifi movie ever. The only thing that was a glaring error (there were other very small errors but nothing worthy of mentioning) was the windstorm. The low atmospheric pressure of Mars makes the storm, as depicted in the movie, impossible. Still, it's a mistake that is easy to ignore given that Weir got so many other things right. Also, the casting was wonderful. In particular, I loved Daniels portrayal of the NASA director.
Are the, Martian movie and Interstellar intertwined as stories? For example, in Interstellar, when the Astronauts were on their rescue mission and had the choices of which planet they would go to based on the time that they had left to survive themselves choose, like Mars which, Matt Damon was accidentally left on by his fellow astronauts?
My favourite sci-fi movie is Alien, but I realise tonight how far sci fi has traveled after watching the space pirate (haha!) brilliant film the martian
This is the closest film I’ve seen that could be labeled “science fiction.” Sorry, movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001 a Space Odyssey or Alien should be labeled “science fantasy” or as in Star Wars “space opera.” Scientific inaccuracies in The Martian are the first storm at the start and not an accurate depiction of gravity on Mars. The Martin did a great job at depicting people at JPL and/or NASA. I am often in a position at a facility to watch this movie and many other movies during a three hour procedure. Out of maybe 100+ movies I often watch The Martian. I always catch something I didn’t notice. I cannot say how many times I’ve seen it. I have been to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory many times.I get a real kick out of how in the movie they nail the scientists and engineers at JPL. Reference Childish Gambino’s (Donald Glover) character haha.
I like Solaris (both versions) as well as The Martian. I haven't watched The Martian 36 times but I do watch it often in a rotation with Cloud Atlas, Sully, and Invictus. I also watch my other DVDs including my Top Ten films which include Dr. Strangelove and The 39 Steps. I have read The Martian (once ) and listened to The Martian in audiobook form (twice).
I have just re-watched the movie and noticed that the antenna array on the Hermes is the same as that on the Discovery in 2001. One large dish with two smaller dishes either side. In 2001, the array is an important plot point as it houses the AE35 unit that Hal reports as on the point of failing - this turns out to be one of Hal's lies.
The fear is learn from parent who forgot their children at day care :) And why is it with space suits and the profile of a tyre and the michelin guy. Lol.. he he
An old movie from the early 60's (I think) was "Robinson Crusoe on Mars". Of course it's sill now and special effects were infantile but it had a lot of character. Plus a pre-Batman, Adam West
Excellent vid, thanks. I'm riveted to the book at the moment and look forward to the movie. Not a literary classic (the book) but for sure a ripping good yarn. And I like the science. Makes me think science-based analyses and solutions are an improvement on religion-based analyses and solutions. BTW best sci-fi movie for me, ever, is Dark Star.
sandstorm wouldnt have much of a punch because the low atmosphere.. potatoes are grown in half the time they do on earth.. IN SAND mixed with shit! with alot less sunlight than here on earth and inside a building.. Mark starts rationing his food waaay before he runs out of food.. he has 408 sols worth of food, starts stretching the allready rationed food at sol 154.. and he spends more time in the rover than growing potatoes.. the book was probably better.. a fun film though
#1: The sandstorm scene kicking up rocks & pebbles and large objects is an impossibility on Mars due to its very thin atmosphere, meaning that maximum recorded wind speeds of 100 kph are hardly capable of knocking over a person or that airborne chunk hitting Watney. #4: The the presence of perchlorates in the martian regolith (regolith = ground up rock, not soil) would be toxic to most edible plants. Let's hope other un-researched areas of Mars don't have perchlorates. One more thing: Re-using Pathfinder after being dead for a few decades is extremely unlikely, even if Watney the botanist was multi-discipline trained. I'll skip the harsh radiation environment, dry static conditions and a host of other killer Mars items for now.
I think it's called artistic license. Even a film about going to Mars would be boring if nothing untoward happened.. They went, they picked up rocks, they went home, hmm, Give it a miss.
It's because you are passionate about mankind going to different places in the Solar system and beyond. I find myself emotional too. Especially when I watch Interstellar.
There is one thing about this movie ,,,,, THERE IS NO RAW FOOD IN SPACE !! so where did he get the potatoes ? were they stored next to the live chickens ? REALLY !!
It's good to see you cross promoting your other videos, however, whilst it's good to have the linked annotations show up while your talking about them, actually hearing"go see this other video" is a little jarring (brakes the pacing and flow). Would you care to show the annotated link, but not add it to the verbal script itself? (just my humble suggestion)
+Pandamonium Thanks for that, it's always good to get feedback. I can see what you're saying and I'll definitely bear it in mind for future videos. :-) PS My next video (Pan review) was actually filmed before the TYDKA The Martian, so obviously I couldn't take into account what you said here - will do for future ones! :-)
I think the Martian rates high above Interstellar. The later holds a horrible message about Earth and our role in it. Thanks Ridley Scott and the author of the book for counteracting this crap and giving a message which really reminds me of my fav sci-fi movie, 2001 A Space Odyssey
Funny they don't use Fuller's Earth anymore for soil in movies because the color would be about right. The dust from Fuller's Earth is bad stuff and you can't breath it in so movies don't use it nowadays.
Interesting facts and, as great as the movie was, there is really only one important thing to know. The book was infinitely better. That's saying a lot, because the movie was amazing.
I've seen it 114 times. I have a chart and the DVD and I mark on the chart everytime I watch it. I've also memorized it. all of it. great movie. 100% recommend it to mature young adults and adults in general
+Kevin D I don't think there's anything that isn't in the trailer; so there would only be mild spoilers if you haven't seen that and don't know anything about the movie. Hope that helps!
So all of that Jessica needed for a small role on this film? Visiting NASA training centers, simulators and astronauts. For a small episode she played in the beginning. Jessica you are a good actress but seriously?
This is one of the best Sci-fi movie out there.
Also it is good to know that Mars is actually here in Hungary.
Really enjoyed The Martian. It just goes to prove you don't need E.T.'s to make a really great 'space' movie ;)
+Johannah Carroll Glad to hear you enjoyed it, Johannah! :-)

36. That's the number of times I watched `The Martian.'
I watched it only 31 times
I liked this show a lot but I always like Matt. One of my favorites parts is how they discover hes still alive on mars. That young lady did an awesome job!
Got to see this film. Watched a 'making of' over the weekend & this just cements my interest.
I havent seen this film yet but it looks amazing. Fantastic to find out about the things you dont know about the film.

Actually, the gravity was way off too. Pretty big error.
I can't wait to see the film, Matt Damon is such a nice guy and these facts are fascinating
District 9 is my favourite sci-fi movie!
Alien is my favourite Sci-Fi film.
Off to see this tomorrow, can't wait!
+Beyond Comps Hope you enjoy it! :-)

2001: A Space Odyssey is my favourite movie, not just sci-fi movie.
My favourite sci-fi movie is Alien, but I realise tonight how far sci fi has traveled after watching the space pirate (haha!) brilliant film the martian
Really cool that they actually grew their own potato plants from scratch
Great film, managed to get to see a preview of this. My favourite sci-fi movie has to be ALIENS.

I think my favourite sci-fi film will always be E.T.

This is my favorite film of 2015...
Can you do The Abyss
thank you so much for this!!
+Horselover25 Collachi my pleasure, glad you enjoyed it!
You can't beat The Thing in my opinion.
I have just re-watched the movie and noticed that the antenna array on the Hermes is the same as that on the Discovery in 2001. One large dish with two smaller dishes either side. great video :) loved this film
+Dilberto Creed Thanks, Dilberto! Great to hear you enjoyed the movie and my video too! :-)

@Nick Maclachlan Yes I agree.
I really want to see this! Love a bit of sci fi, Alien films are my favourite l
I love Galaxy Quest
7:22 if u look closely, his glasses reflects the green screen, not the blue screen we sees in the movie.
It might be also because lenses of the glasses he is wearing is special type colored ones that reflects light differently?
Good to see how Hungary ivolved in a big movie like this. And my favorite is Interstellar.
great video and my favourite sci-fi movie is Blade Runner
The use of duck tape was a great advert but nuts.
My fave Sci-Fi film is Star Wars
i watched this like 10x ❤️❤️
"mini intercom systems"... you mean like two-way radios that most people wearing self-contained suits use?
Loved this film. Great video.
+Ollie Randolph Thanks, Ollie. Good to know you enjoyed the movie! :-)
Mark Whatney-Space Pirate

In the book, most everyone had dual responsibilities. Watney was the botanist and the mechanical engineer.
I think it's called artistic license.
Even a film about going to Mars would be boring if nothing untoward happened..
They went, they picked up rocks, they went home, hmm, Give it a miss.
I love jurassic world and the martian
Who else always cries when watching space movies? Im sure i do. Literally all space movies XD
+Lt. Col. Frank Slade Why would you cry?
InfinteGaming101 Because im a pussy
now that's honesty
It's because you are passionate about mankind going to different places in the Solar system and beyond. I find myself emotional too. Especially when I watch Interstellar.
You think, you did-- past perfect tensor? You is, guilty-- CVCC. Typed, as a woman? Half paged.
Contact.

Really cool.
+Ms. Service thanks! :-)

Interstellar is my fav sci-fi movie
by far the best movie ever created
+DeezoCew totally agree with you one hundred percent
as so as the martian but you cannot compare it to interstellar
I think the Martian rates high above Interstellar. The later holds a horrible message about Earth and our role in it. Thanks Ridley Scott and the author of the book for counteracting this crap and giving a message which really reminds me of my fav sci-fi movie, 2001 A Space Odyssey
It has to be 'Solaris'.
I like the Alien films
Can You go Glee next
Funny they don't use Fuller's Earth anymore for soil in movies because the color would be about right. The dust from Fuller's Earth is bad stuff and you can't breath it in so movies don't use it nowadays.
who are you kidding I love all sci fi films :D
Why the hurry? So nervous.
For me its the one & only Avatar 💕
one of the best
Por que você é triste nesse trabalho de cultivo?
Interesting facts and, as great as the movie was, there is really only one important thing to know. The book was infinitely better. That's saying a lot, because the movie was amazing.
