Great Overview about Audio Evolution Mobile app! I play in a Power Trio Classic-Prog-Rock-Etc. kind of band, and I'm looking for an iOS app (that can run on an ancient iPhone 6 😅, and in a few months on a X), using an Audio Interface to record 8 inputs (Focusrite Scarlett 18i8) simultaneously. So far I have AUM, that I use to trigger some sounds and play chords with a KMI 12 Step pedal, but I don't think that AUM is a good fit for recording 8 Tracks (maybe with 4Pockets MultiTrack), and easily managing/transferring the individual audio files later on to Reaper (the DAW I use on PC) I have seen some reviews/videos about Audio Evolution Mobile Studio, and MultiTrack DAW, even your 4Pockets MultiTrack Recorder plugin video (very informative and entertaining 😁), but still not sure yet. I think this app can do what I need, record the 8 Inputs at once, and even capture AUM for the samples I trigger, it would be great if you have an insight or recommendation about this Sorry for the long comment ... Thanks for your videos!
Thank you. AEM is great and would do the job you want. But if all you need is to record 8 channels to move to Reaper later you could do that just as easily with AUM. You just arm 8 incoming tracks and they’ll all record to the project recordings folder
@@JamieMallender Thanks for responding, Yes, The one thing that makes me doubt about just using AUM is that I already trigger some samples/loops at certain moments of songs, and for this I use midi cc to "Play Enable" for the File Player, and then other midi cc to "AUM Transport - Start Play" or "AUM Transport - Stop/Rewind" to actually trigger the audio file. So as I remember the Transport will have to be running in order to Record the channels/tracks for the different Audio Interface Inputs (Instruments/Mics) , Right? But after Googling a bit more, maybe using the 4Pockets Auv3 MultiTrack Recorder Plugin, that has "play and record modes (when not synced to host)" , Could that work?
@@JamieMallender Thanks again, still not sure which option to use, I like the MultiTrack idea, but also the full DAW app sounds very appealing with all the features that could be useful... and same price too 😃 Do you know which of these options could affect the iPhone performance more, just AUM with MultiTrack instances to record 8 inputs, or AEM DAW and AUM (just for some sounds & trigger files) combination? Thanks again again 🤘🏻
@@enrifretless personally, the AEM method sounds more appealing to me for that use case but I couldn’t comment how well and of those apps would work on such old devices. The oldest devices I use for any music apps are an iPhone 12 and a 2017 basic iPad. Both can handle either scenario just fine.
I cant believe how good it is .i use it over 4 android tabs 2 galaxy tab a 2019 models a lenovo and a sony experia..i use one for sequencing and the other 3 to run audio evolution as 3 slave synths eg one with a flowtone synth one with any of the other free synths and one for soundfonts i cant believe you can create fully featured soundfonts within the app from any sample just press create and choose your sample WTF ? HEAVEN.using the Daws digital effects after too..my samplers and some synths are now for sale .i have also left windows pcs for good as i also do my video editing in cyberlink power director for a fiver a month..Tablets forever now..hundreds of pounds for windows pc sequencers etc no way no brainer.. i have had 28 stereo guitar bass keys and vox tracks playing at once using a 20 quid behringer u control uca 222 perfect latency and 24 bit .seamless sequencing ..like i say .i still cant believe it..
It really is an excellent DAW. I mostly use iOS but I do have Audio Evolution and Cubasis 3 on a Galaxy S8. It performs better with regards to latency than anything else on Android, which is really not a great operating system for music. Somehow though, this developer has made a great DAW in spite of those challenges. I believe that Android devices are on the whole, superior consumer devices than apple. But iOS is exceptional for music so that’s why I use iPad and iPhone. With my iPad I can host any number of 3rd party apps in a DAW and latency is never an issue with any music app. It’s all very exciting to be able to do this stuff with a device that fits in your pocket or backpack. Have an awesome day my friend!
Hey Jamie, thanks for turning me onto this app. However, I cannot get software monitoring to work at all. The state of things right now is that I can only hear my instrument and audio tracks. Once they’re recorded I can’t get it to help me hear my dry signal and I can’t get it to help me hear my TONEX affected signal for example. I am trade with both and RME baby face as well as with an Irig duo and focusrite idock. Would love to know your thoughts and how you are using an audio interface or what interface is working for you to be able to get pre-record or record armed monitoring.
Hi Leif, your problem has nothing to do with interface. I’m still using the iRig Pro Duo as my main interface. Let’s say you have your guitar on track 1. At the top of the channel strip it says FX grid. When you press on that you should see ToneX in effect slot 1? If I remember correctly there’s a power button next to FX grid so you can switch the fx loop on and off - thus hearing your clean or amped guitar
yep all it was was closing the preference window instead of tapping by it so it registered the change. worked fine on my babyface and the focusrite itrack dock so far. thanks so much. simple problems with simple solutions..
Thanks for the video! Wondered if you might be able to answer a little question regarding AEM. Is it possible to have the piano keyboard on-screen while editing the FX? Cheers :)
@@JamieMallender No need to apologise. Nobody expects you to be pissy-pantsin' around, replying to comments on a year-old video :) :) :) Shame about the lack of that functionality, though. It's key to my workflow, and is a big barrier to me not giving it a try. Thanks, again!
.…thanks Jamie for the wonderful introduction of the app! There are several DAWs for iOS until now and one has to make a choice…kind of difficult, mainly, when you are a beginner in iOS musicmaking. But: the users routine of operating the software will make him appreciate it, despite of all the pros'n'cons…I enjoyed your session👍🏼😎…
It is a good app. I’m now torn between this and Cubasis 3. The nee features in Cubasis 3 make it very capable and exciting. But the AUV3 handling is better in this one
Hi Jamie Duuddee. I've been looking for an NS2 alternative (for the tempo track) as I wasn't gelling with NS2's workflow. I gave this a shot last night and really love it, it will easily replace NS2 for me, with Cubasis still being my go to DAW. I want to thank you for this video, I'm only half way through but it's already a big help. You're right, it isn't perfect (what is), has it's issues but it's very underrated. After a week in NS2 on one project, I couldn't get what I wanted, yet in one night AEM did exactly what I was after. Not knocking NS2, it just isn't for me. Your workflow is very similar to mine. I do a lot with pre-existing midi files (covers and remixes) and having it load with a set of reasonable/decent sounds is excellent, something I can't get NS2 to do. As you say, you can go for better sounds later. Thanks again mate. See you in Doug's streams. 🙂
Thank you for watching. I’m sorry for the slow reply. I didn’t get a notification of your comment. It really is a great DAW. Honestly, I use Cubasis 3 much more, but it has its uses for me and I’m so glad I discovered is. I think the compose now, find the sounds later is some of the best advice available. Have an awesome day duuuuuuude!!!!
@@JamieMallender Yeah, I'm loving it too and it's replaced NanoStudio 2 in my line up. C3 is still my go to as I find it so intuitive but AEM is next. No worries on the slow reply, it's all good here. 🙂
It’s kind of the complete opposite of Nanostudio 2. I would say that the strong point of NS2 would be its very well implemented midi editing, and the built in sounds are fabulous. But aside from using an awkward, fiddly work around, it has no real audio capability. That why I hardly use it which is a shame because it does that midi stuff so well. Audio Evolution is exceptional for real audio recording. If you’re wanting to record real instruments and vocals it’s brilliant. The midi functionality is not as good as NS2 but it isn’t bad and it doesn’t have lots of great built in sounds but it is very cheap and there are inexpensive IAPs for more sounds. As a traditional iOS DAW overall I would say that Cubasis 3 is the best one, but some things about AEM make it well worth having. It doesn’t cost a lot, its a lot more stable than Auria, handles real audio very well, has a much better mixing desk than GarageBand - it has a lot of plusses.
Trying to decide if I want to try out Cakewalk on a laptop, or just get this as a change up to GB. Considering your review, this seems like a pretty safe bet. Thanks
Yeah Jeff I’d say that for the price you should definitely give it a whirl. Initially there might be a learning curve while you get used to where everything is but it has much more of the feel of a professional DAW than GarageBand, in my opinion anyway.
It’s good. It doesn’t have quite the set of features C3 has but it’s a bit more stable. You just have to get used to the differences in the way you navigate all the functions. :)
Yeah I think it’s pretty exciting. For me, it’s definitely a DAW I can use to get the job done - I’d use it over GarageBand or Auria or BM3 or NS2 for sure
@@WyattLite-n-inn Truthfully, Cubasis 3 is my go to but if I need to record something purely real Audio, Audio Evolution is a beast. I like to keep using it because like you say - you never know what will happen in time. I believe in the developer, I think his work is very solid and he takes great care and listens to feedback. Plus, what if there was a Cubasis 3 update that went wrong or if they made a change to it that I hated. Always good to have another option.
Dude so glad I found your channel! I’ve learned so much from you . Big up!! ❤️💛💚
