      I to am very interested in the performance of the 7800X3D. I expect a boost in performance but it's not going to outperform the 4080s in iRacing. Not because the GPU is bad but without SMP support for AMD cards, it's never going to be close. My interest comes from the fact that I have the XTX with a 5800X3D and am wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to AM5 with a 7800X3D. Buying a new motherboard, RAM and CPU would set me back around € 700 but I expect to atleast get half back from selling what I have now.

  • @Promit

    Looking at the data, I think it's pretty clear that the AMD setup is much less efficient at dispatching draw calls with iRacing than NVIDIA is. The driver simply consumes more CPU in feeding data to the GPU. The raw pixel shading power on the 7900 XTX doesn't seem to be much behind the 4080S but the moment there's heavy demand on CPU, the AMD card starts falling behind. In theory there might be opportunities for AMD to better optimize/tweak the driver for iRacing, but who knows if they'll ever do so. A number of commenters (including me) are clearly interested in VR tests, but I can pretty much extrapolate from here - the AMD cards will fall behind in CPU-heavy races like multiclass and the SPS setting will nail the coffin shut.

    • @BenchmarkOdysseys

  • @sdtunstall
    @sdtunstall 4 месяца назад

    Generally speaking the Voltage (mV) being maxed out will inefficiently use up the TBP (total board power in watts) meaning sliding up the power limit % has less impact. Running stock voltage, or a small undervolt (can be unstable on non monolithic dies like 7900XT and XTX) is the best way to go, and then you can max out the power limit % and get more return.
    You may have even tainted the 7900XTX results to get lower performance than stock as the mV's used is too high meaning it uses up more budget than the percentage power limit increase you gave. I'd have just tested it at default on both cards, to keep it 'vanilla'.

      Btw, came back to this again and saw your tuning for the 7900XTX. Assuming it's the same tuning principles as my 6800XT, going the opposite with voltage and majorly undervolt can yield significant performance gains. HDR enabled so to loose a 20% FPS? Drawing all cars? Dynamic LOD enabled? ohh man...I also don't agree with the fact you buy "fast" vidocards only for triple 1440 or more. Why not buying them for triple 1080, so you have a steady 240FPS? So that you cut 1/3 and more latency? So you begin to see what you do on the steering wheel more in real time and also what you see has less of a lag compared to the Direct Drive that has less latency? I mean why insisting in buying expensive hardware to run more pixels riducing temporal quality increasing latency especially on 20 years old graphics engine that no matter what you do, you'll never get a particularly good image? Very good instead the 3 projection section, thanks for that.

    • @BenchmarkOdysseys
      @BenchmarkOdysseys  4 месяца назад +2

      Great points and interesting perspective. I think new owners of the fastest graphics cards EXPECT to turn everything up: they paid top-dollar and want the best graphics. Triple 1080p produces a CPU bottleneck for 4080S and 7900XTX. If a user upgrades from say RTX 2070 while using Ryzen 5600X, they will be disappointed. It would have been wiser to go with 5800X3D + 4070 Super. But you are right that things are complicated and people place difference values on latency, resolution, quality, projections, etc.

      @BenchmarkOdysseys  2 месяца назад +1

      Heh, I understand such a sentiment. But iRacing has deployed AMD FSR and not Nvidia DLSS, so all iRacers can use resolution scaling. But when it comes to Nvidia SPS and SMP, AMD has not reversed engineered how it works on GeForce and copy that to Radeon. I fear the demand of those features among Radeon users is too small for them to dedicate resources to it.
