Mt sons a college student, veterinary science, and division 2 football center. He has a big heart, goes out of his way to help people, or offer a hand. In high school he didn't have a large number of friends, but knew everyone. He often went out of his way to stop bullying. He is also a big supporter of 2A to the point he refused to participate in the high school walk out against gun violence. This spurred 100 other students to not want to participate. They were treated like crap because of it, but they stood their ground and did what they felt was right. With that said, he and I had this type of discussion many times. If there is an active shooter and he is not within 10 feet of you, get away, find cover, run! If he's that close, its him or you, don't show restraint, pitty, or remorse. Do what you need to do to survive the fight and most importantly.....end the fight in your favor.
I’m a year and a half into ownership. I totally agree we all need training. It has unfortunately gotten more and more expensive but worth it.
The big question is how much is your life worth too you? Cost of ammo is nothing compared to a funeral.
My problem is finding time. I have a job with long hours & when I have a day off I just want to NOT have to do anything. I would have to take time off to even participate in training.

I'm kiddin with you but seriously, most Americans are going to consider getting into reloading to keep up with training, or being able to do much anything. See as the actual terrorist's, the one's controlling our country (and wef) currently are steering everything into the concrete wall while everyone tries to pretend we don't need to do anything about the completely corrupted government.

As a not so new gun user, but have taken decades away. I'm finding the "New gun" owner conversations refreshing. Kind of like conversations in the gun shop in the 90's. We can always learn if we are willing.

This may be off the topic, but when I first found (of course I liked & subscribed) this channel, I was fortunate enough to meet Barry in the beginning episodes. It wasn't until I did my research (where the heII is Barry?, 2-3 weeks ago) that I found out about his passing. Barry was a great man with an awesome character and sense of humor, and I miss him terribly. All subscribers need to watch the channel from the very first episode, and get a chance to meet Barry! You won't be sorry.
We lost an amazing human to the mortal world. But heaven has an amazing trainer and source of knowledge when the big man is busy.

I've been through private security armed ppsb training, ccw training class and private shooting on the move Training all for my old private security gig and just to get better plus shooting quite a bit with family and friends. After all that I still am constantly extremely safe with my firearms.. The basic 4 rules are so important main one keep your finger off that trigger unless ready to fire and always keep it pointed in safe direction!
Violence is the last resort. But if it comes to it, be absolutely deadly

Gear makes things better but training is what matters. Someone with basic equipment that can hit a target beats the guy that looks cool.

I think the Dr Doesn't even understand caliber most likely. He simply wants to know how many holes does he have to evaluate/work on and where are they located so he doesn't have to search.
He will evaluate the damage and do what is necessary or pass it to the coroner.
So you are very correct about putting a hole where it needs to be ( vital area ) but then you talk about multiple holes and bleedout. 🤔 Are we wounding or stopping?
IMO The 9 mm is not a goldilocks caliber for DEFENSE. It is a goldilocks caliber for cost per round,weight,cartrige size,easy of use and availability. Then the fact that it is the current favorite so development, promotion and public knowledge for 9mm will overtake anything else at the moment.
But simply put there are much better calibers out there for some people ( not all )when it comes to defense.
.40 is a nice step up with not much capacity loss. 45+p delivers nice ft lbs on target. 357 will wreck anybodys day. .44 is a one shot stop in a chest cavity and would crush a limb/pelvis/shoulder etc. A .22 Mini mag in perp will do it too, maybe fast, maybe slow. Stay away from .25 acp lol. (Truly worthless round)

One thing many dont do that i highly recomend you do....read and re read your states lethal force laws often. Stay sharp on them. Even if you know them by heart...read them anyway.
You may win a gun fight...but still lose your life ( prison). You can never be to familiar with lethal force laws. Your life depends on it. Keep your mental blade sharp on the laws.
Also if you travel to other states a lot, read and re read their lethal force laws too. I live on the KY TN border so i stay sharp on the laws of both states. Read your neighboring states carry and lethal force laws frequently.

I consider myself both lucky and blessed that I have never, and will never step foot in a public range. Very grateful that I have access to rural country property to shoot when I want and at what targets I want. Shooting paper is a waste of ammo in my opinion. Plus half of the fun shooting for me is being outdoors, becoming one with nature. Didn’t really realize until lately how lucky I am to have this blessing as many others do not own land and probably never will…
My local range fees from 16 bump up to 20 then now 27 all in 2 year, fu cking ridiculous!

Speaking of plentiful ammo. As someone who owns many guns in 30 Carbine, I was surprised that over the past 2 years 30 carb has been in abundance and cheaper than most other ammo.

Ya I’m wandering the same thing. .30 cheaper than what other ammo? Cheaper than x39 ? Or 223 or 9mm I’ve not seen it . And .30 surplus has been pretty much dry a long time some pops up but it literally has collector value.
I bought a 45 m&p for my first handgun during the first summer of the bug, and then I bought a compact Springfield .45. So I’ve got a fair amount of ammo. I’m thinking now about a .380 because it’s so concealable. So I can either get the Ruger LCP max, or maybe a palmetto dagger in 9mm or a Glock in 9. I love that deep deep concealability and comfort of the ruger though.
different guns can be fun, but [and this is only my opinion] if you're going to buy multiple guns, make a few of them in the same caliber.
I reload, and this is crucial, especially for the price of ammo and availability of components lately. same goes for just buying ammo. when you strike gold, dig deep. also, I've got the m&p .45acp as welI. thats a fun little gun! i carried that thing every day for years, til i got my canik, which is a much slept-on brand.
I traded a .45 compact that pulled my pants down for a g42 .380 7 total rds w 1 in chamber . Less than 1 lb loaded single stack and it stays where my wallet would. I like it better than a double stack. I wouldn’t mind or I’m acceptable to aluminum liberty rds if they would cycle. Everyone has their threshold of size weight to me it’s the Goldilocks size. The minimum I’d wanna face a mass shooter type scenario. A extra mag somewhere is nice.

Institute I still couldn’t fix cars even though I graduated. It took 15 years of fixing cars before I was really good at it. Maybe the same with guns?!

This is another reason why I live in the mountains. I just shoot off my porch. Also public ranges kinda still scare me. When I was 18, someone came into my lane and pointed their jammed pistol in my face.
How long does it take you to load 1000 rounds of 9mm the whole process?
@@Dcm193 88 rounds takes about 15-20 minutes on my progressive press - i have a Lee 4-stage. So probably 2-3+ hours of work to crank out 1000.
I bought a m&p shield in 9mm a few years ago, did my research beforehand. Despite my friends giving me crap (jokingly)about it, what I learned was that, it’s better to know how to handle the weapon when it comes down to it. As a liberal gun owner, I had to learn from trainers, gun shop workers, handbooks, friends, old vets that I know to get to the level of knowledge that I have today, and even so, I know I don’t know everything, and there’s always something that I could improve on. Thank God I have never used my weapons outside of a range, and I hope I never will, and this episode definitely reinforced a lot of stuff I have learned.

Lucky I can afford going to indoor range weekly. Followed a lot of the advice here, plus the range employees providing useful advice over time. What I find interesting is that though I am accurate up to 75 feet, I always find I am more accurate with my newer Kimber 1911 45ACP than my Glock 17 9mm. Something about the 1911 just makes it better for me.
Grip angle. Try an S&W M&P and see if you are as accurate as your Kimber.
Grip trigger for sure is better. I’m not suprised.

training doesn't mean crap if your not willing to use 2A for what it was intended for. most gun owners will continue to roll over and do what they are told.
training is expensive. people need to do what they can afford to do. Maybe these 2A groups need to put their money where their mouth is and offer some free training.

In addition to range fees and ammunition costs, many urban/suburban people don't even live near a gun range.

I cringed when he said "of course you're not gonna take a 9mm jogging. Maybe you take your 380" you can jog with a 9mm sw shield in a shoulder rig or belly band. Just sprinkle a little M A N on it, Alice.
My feeling are to avoid violence at all cost along with also never starting a fight. HOWEVER…When a violence is imminent, and cannot be avoided then If/When such a time comes to green light such behaviors then i will do everying in my power to overwhelm the individual posing a lethal threat, and continute to direct an overwhelming level of violence directed towards them, and continure doing so until they phsycologically become totally incapable to continuing to pose a threat.
As ANY assistance what so ever which may allow. As, thankfully i can count the number of times in my life where i had to “flip that switch” and choose to overwhelm a threat by consentrating and directing said violence onto another human being by means of non-lethal force to escape a bad situation and prevent that bad situation from evolving into a worse situation. As i grew older and wiser the greatest tool i have developed is simply avoiding high risk situaitons where the probability of phsycial confrontation turing violent i flat out avoid at all costs.
I taught martial arts for 36 years. Would I advise somebody who wants to learn self defense to follow in my foosteps? definitely not. I would advise them to learn some very basic stuff, and then get a life instead.
Absolutely spot on. The average person does not need to be at the range every week 'training'.

Training, psssshh I've played Monday morning quarterback to every self defense video online, in the comfort of the quarry and no adrenaline I shoot pretty good. It's not like instincts on life and death situations are important to engrain as there's no way you can trust your cerebral cortex in such.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has neither signed nor vetoed the Constitutional Carry bill. He has seven days from the day the Senate forwarded the bill for his signature (March 8; today is March 14). Not sure if the seven-day period includes weekends. If he doesn't veto or sign the bill withing seven days it becomes law without his signature.
I think it's best that he either sign it or not touch it.
I like the idea of training more widely used, but the problem is that it quickly turns into people trying to legislate mandatory training. I think a lot of the official training programs aren't necessarily the best. Things like hunters safety are mostly a joke, and I wouldn't even say it is an appropriate course to understand hunting laws. The internet has taught me more than any government class.
ill speak for myself in saying if one hasn't the patience to let him cover newbies and their needs you should really rethink that for the same you don't cut a 6 year old loose with a box of firecrackers and a lighter.
Went to beginning course than an intermediate for pistol, the people who went into intermediate didn't even know how to use the firearms basic functions. I feel as though hunter safety or a super basic course is mandatory before going up any classes
That school isn’t good if they’re not requiring pre requisite classes for advanced courses.
Local M word groups will be the best start if u can go that route you’ll get really cheap training by legit trained trainers from beginning to end. First day you’ll get a crash course .

When we have to sit around thinking and talking about legal and "lawful" consequences and outcomes even when following one's clean clear conscious on how to handle a potential bad guy, well everyone our law enforcement and government is too gd big and corrupt by far and large. Sure there's some good men out there, but we are being strangled by terrorism in our own country.
For my glock guys, you can buy a barrel to convert .40 to 9mm , your .40 mag will also hold 9mm ammunition, but I recommend buying the right mag
I did find a conversion barrel to 9mm but there's also slides you can get to shoot 22lr

Depends on what your trying to do and how you and where you grew up, life experience and many other things. Not everyone needs training, some people definitely do. Some of us are lucky to afford ammo.
Doesn’t take a lot of ammo to train back in the day we would shoot a maximum of 80 rounds at the qualification range in the army
Training is never going to hurt you one bit, but... I think a lot of people are mistaken about how much is necessary to become proficient with a firearm. You by no means need to be dropping thousands on ammo for regular range days to be an efficient shooter. You don't need to be a tactical dudebro wannabe soldier. You just need to be able to put rounds on a human size target up to a somewhat respectable range with decent accuracy. Speaking as someone who has been in a shooting situation, it's probably going to happen a lot closer than you think, if it ever does. It's not going to be this scenario where you need to shoot the bad guy in the head to save the hostage in front of him. Center of mass. That's all. Point and shoot. Much more straightforward than most people make it.
Join a private gun club that offers training and has a mandatory live fire orientation with a range safety officer before your allowed on the range. Best thing our family ever did. You won't regret it.

I'm a 32 year old from Maine. I was born with a firearm in my hand (not really). I was raised to know firearms safety. I was raised to know how important one shot can be. I've been shooting firearms since I was old enough to hold one... My problem is these people who tell me I need training or my weapons are useless... I tell them no... my shotgun will do the same job as yours

If I were you, I would work on getting comfortable with keeping your gun racked while you are carrying. Start with mastering trigger discipline (do not touch the trigger until you are on target and ready to fire), master never pointing the gun at something you’re not willing to destroy, and a good holster. A wise man once told me “racking your gun right before a defensive situation is like thinking you can put your seat belt on right before an accident.”
Kyle was maybe foolish to enter the situation, but that led him (via his training) to be put into situation where he had two choices; nobody or hero. Many would have chosen nobody, many would have folded to the crowd not able to think right in the split seconds he had. Kyle Rittenhouse choose hero, say what you like, but we should all admire that.
I'm one of your viewers that has been watching you for 13 years. I have been with you since the very beginning. Every single time you talk to the new gun owners I enjoy it. What scares me in this country is a generation of people who aren't interested and don't care about the 2A. We HAVE TO DO OUR PART WITH INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION. Training should be required to carry. Simple as that. My ex-wife couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a handgun. Neither can a LOT of people I know. They’d have a zero percent chance of defending themselves. When I went through the police academy it was TRULY SCARY how many officers couldn’t shoot. It made me very worried. Just take a one hour class. In an hour as long as you’ll listen I can teach the basics of how to load, unload, and field strip your Glock. In that same hour can also teach anyone with an IQ over 70 how to hit a man-sized B27 target at 7 yards. Just make it where you need one hour of FREE training to carry. Super easy and should be free.

I have no issues with training. My issue is putting conditions on the second amendment. A wise person will seek to become as knowledgeable with state law and as proficient with their weapon of choice as possible.
For example, "OK dude, you have been shooting and open carrying for years! If you want your shirt to hang over your handgun however you gotta take this class.

While this is an older video and I agree that training is important I must say that I disagree that the covid ammo shortage showed us which caliber is the right caliber and to say that it did is kind of silly and shows bias. The covid ammo shortage literally just showed what is popular. To say that one caliber is right because it is popular is like saying that if six out of ten people at a cookout choose well done steak while the other four choose medium rare or rare then well done is the right way to cook a steak. Like y'all said one person will choose boxers and another will choose briefs because we all have different preferences. So what is right for one person is not always right for somebody else. To paraphrase Paul Harrell when you make a statement that is partially true you are making a statement that is completely wrong.

Educating new gun owners is just as important if not more so. a educated gun owner is less likely to make a big mistake. Even experienced shooters with lots of knowledge. and good hapits can make mistakes.
