Floor is so damn sexy in this...well, she always is, but this jazzy song and her breathy vocals make her even more so. I like Annette's version too, and she also looks great that video. Emppu is a riot in this too...I love the way he hams it up during his solo. The chemistry between band member is evident even early in Floor's tenure as we can see here. Love this! Cheers!
Nightwish can do... everything. You never know what style or genre will come. I have always think this song is really Anette´s song. What she could do really well also in live situation (like 2012 Montreux video shows). I really love her style in this song. But Floor did it again, showing no matter what genre, she can do it! And Emppu :D , he really is special, again, never know what he do next...

I don't want to take away from that.... but.... that being said. 😍😱❤😳 Floor performing this song should be illegal... my wife would divorce me if she knew what was going through my head after seeing this.

I agree that Nightwish with Tuomas at the helm is a level above anything similar. That said, the 'overall sound' as you put it is negotiable. A prime example is the black symphonic metal of Dimmu Borgir. Check out 'Mourning Palace' from Wacken 2012, orchestra and choir on stage.
The individual song 'Mourning Palace' is labeled as from the Forces of the Northern Night, I play the full set from Wacken 2012 (where MP was taken from) semi regularly so I forgot the tour name.

I can picture Floor singing at a Jazz bar and this number just about setting the place on fire!!! Props to Jukka on the brush sticks here and the other versions, I thought I heard it was Kai who taught him those Jazz stick strokes or maybe not. Anyway, if this doesn't get your heart beating well you either don't have one or your dead and either way it is too late. Well done Olly and lets just say that Annette did a fantastic job on this as well so appreciate both versions and if you have a preference well that is your choice but not a reflection on the performance both did on their presentations. Safe to say the Floor temperature was a lot higher for this song than her usual boiling point number(LOL)!!!
The sound is different as i don't think Emmpu detunes? (not sure that's the right word) his guitar unlike most metal so his thrashy sounds, sound more melodic. Maybe because there is only his guitar? but it gives a different sound.
Emppu plays today in d standard tuning on all tracks live. So he tunes a whole step down. The first 3 records where in standard e tuning. He played this songs on older live performance in the original tuning but he didn’t do that anymore cause he would have to carry 3 guitars more on tour (one for warming up, one for backup and one main). He likes simple setups thats also the reason why he switched to kemper. Moreover he prefers his EV-1 with no tone control cause ever control is a resistance.
I really love the jazzy vibe of this song. It is one of the songs that even Anette could pull off live. That being said i absolutely love the Floor version. It is such pity that there are no professional recordings of her doing this song. It always make me feel that this should be played in black and white in smoke filled bar. I do not get why they took it off the list. :-)

That being said, Floor adds a level of seduction to the song that I really appreciate 😍 Kind of hard to pick which one I'd prefer, so I'll just settle for really enjoying them both. Got to love Emppu's antics in this clip as well! 😄 If Anette ever releases a jazz oriented album, I will most certainly check it out - her voice fits that genre very well!

I'd go with Annette too although the thing that makes Floor amazing to me and much more in line with classical singers is that she doesn't ever lose tone or pitch when she sings live and that to me was Annette's big downfall from all the live shows I've seen. Album wise you can't fault her though.
