    I purchased fish from him years ago when it was just a garage of tanks. I knew he would take off to a positive business as the fish were awesome. Sure to get more shortly.

    I know this is not related to your video but was wondering about this. Maybe you can answer this question for me. If the power goes out will the fx4 canister filter backfire and have the water that's in the canister back into the aquarium and overfill the aquarium or its design not to backfire and overfill the aquarium? And when the power turns back on it will just go through its normal priming cycle? Thank you

    @primetimeaquatics, as great as the place is, I would be concerned that the fish there are exposed to fish borne and wild fish parasites considering that the fish go through an extended stay in a natural pond. maybe a science episode on mycobacteria, lack of water hygine in most stores and how stealthy some of these potential pathogens like internal parasites, is quarantine even effective? curios to hear your thoughts.

    I resuced a 55 gallon tank from the dump. Its in great shape. I would like to put as many of these fish as possible in this tank. My daughter is dissabled and I really hope watching them will relax her. What amount of this type of fish could i put in this size tank?😀❤

    • @zeriyx
      @zeriyx 2 года назад

      really not very many in a 55. if you're more interested in having a lot of fish with tons of activity, check out african shelldwellers. they are tiny african cichlids with interesting personalities. you could get quite a few more in a 55 than typical africans.

    • @jawjagrrl
      @jawjagrrl 2 года назад

      Depends on which types of Africans. I had Mbuna in a 55 and always had problems, even with intentional overstocking to minimize territorial aggression.
      That said, a combo of less aggressive ones like yellow labs, rusty cichlids and acei would work fine and give you a yellow, a reddish and a blue species, very striking tank.
      Have a plan B ready if someone starts getting bullied too much. I lost several that way. I do more community fish now.

    My only concern with the ponds would be them flooding and ending up in open waterways. I know things like that have happened in the past and it ended up really bad for local ecosystems.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  2 года назад +1

      There aren't any water ways around the area and the fish would die in that part of Florida if left outside during the cooler months.

    • @feralon9570
      @feralon9570 2 года назад +2

      There are more than 20 African cichlids that now live in the Florida waterways. The guy in the video said there are trout and flag fish , I think he said, both living in his ponds that he didn't introduce. Fish manage to find their way around even when we don't know how.

    • @jawjagrrl
      @jawjagrrl 2 года назад +1

      @@feralon9570 more the case in the southern half of the state. I remember visiting a friend in Gainesville once in January, thinking I'd finally get to experience FL winter weather. It was 30 when I arrived, a rare cold snap. When we went to the big pond at UF, there were bald eagles feasting on Nile Perch that got too cold and perished.

    Hey ,,, awesome video ,,, am from India 🇮🇳 , there is a place called Thoothukudi in southern India famous for cichlids but most of 'em have super bright colour , I heard they use harmones (androgens) to get these colours ,, is it true ? Do they do this even in US ???

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  2 года назад

      There are some places that use hormones to increase color temporarily. It’s a sad practice that should be stopped.

      @@PrimeTimeAquatics sometimes commercial interests outweigh all the other things that makes this hobby beautiful,,, buying fish from a trusted source is always better even if we are paying more . (I bought a dozen Red jacob peacock cichlids n even after a month I can't distinguish males n females, that's how horrible things have gotten here.)
