2 packs per win in plat is an excellent choice. Its much like how you started with more packs than technically necessary, basically it just cuts out grinding to find bots/auto-scoops/shame concedes while also giving you more of a chance to actually pull interesting stuff and change the deck. Hell I'd even be down for that to be the rule in gold, or just in general. You're still building with a very limited pool of random cards, the spirit of the challenge is intact.
Beautiful Headhuntress equipped with Malevolent Nuzzler attacking a Luster Dragon, this isn't even Goat it's straight up a Forbidden Memories interaction.
Man, a Forbidden Memories mini-event or Solo gate sounds like it'd be the most hilarious thing ever. Especially if they do one of those at the same time as they add new Memento support to the game to remind people how old the cards that archetype is retraining actually are.
They should make an official format where you open 10 booster packs from the early 2000's and have an hour to build a deck before playing in an elimination tournament
22:31 Funny enough, this card is seeing modest play right now as a way to stop Tenpai from OTK'ing. It's searchable via the Fiendsmith cards because it's a Light Fiend.
2 Packs speeds up the progression of the series. Lordtrent is at like 70 plus episodes and he's not got to Diamond yet, so it'll make a huge difference in your own enjoyment. Another suggestion is to stock up wins. Wait til you have 10 wins and then open a 10-pull. Extra Guaranteed Holos could eventually add up.
honestly I think in Gold you should have the choice to sit through a loss to pick up any stray legacy tickets you might get through losing, but you can still only open them when you win a game.
Fun fact: The first Yugioh Booster pack my mom and ex step dad ever bought me as a kid, I pulled a Malevolent Nuzzler while we were driving home. I didnt know what Malevolent was...And misread it as Male Violent. When I asked them what a Male Violent Nuzzler was they thought I was talking about a vicious hooker and looked at the card...Which didnt help clarify until my Mom noticed there was no I in Malevolent.
I think introducing rules at a slower pace is a good idea. Helps to make the series stand out against the others (though I have not watched any others) and does not get as confusing as the deck dev challenge was at the start.
In my run I'm doing 10 packs. I make it so I can choose either open one single pack after a win or storing it for later. You can in this version decide a win can give you 10 packs but after you can't gain anymore packs until you have 40 wins since that gives you 40 cards total. Yes it's a bit extreme but it's punishment for trying to take the golden route at the chance of getting a really good UR. Again it's up to you how you want to play it but I think that would make plat WAY more interesting if you decide that you want to store up packs or risk it right away to get maybe a good card as soon as you start plat.
Honestly even 5 packs per tank might be TOO SLOW. I think masochists underestimate how unlikely it is to get any synergy out of a pool of over 10k cards… No that I think about it, I wish we could get a series where you opened many more packs at a time (maybe 10). Masochist Blitz if you will. I think it would be more interesting to see more varied decks in short seasons than long slog of a run.
Especially since you only use 100 gems and have a ton of gems built up some way to build up to a opening 10 packs would be a great way to speed up the process because even if you open up a ton of packs no guarantees that they will give you what you want. I recently started a run and did Hardlegs alt starting rules of 10 packs and didn’t get enough cards to even make a deck.
Love this series, maybe you can add a rule that each time you rank to a new league you get 1 Master pack, so if you climb from bronze to gold you'll get 2 additional packs
I agree with the 2 card packs per win in plat! One thing I notice from my own runs and watching other Masochists is that eventually you get a lot of dupes from Master Packs which makes some wins feel really unrewarding, with 2 Packs per win you get less dupes and more cards which also scales with Platinum's difficulty
two packs, opening a random secret pack (craft included), or a random craft per win after plat wouldn't be too busted and does feel like a nice reward for getting so far in the ranks.
I can confirm that the bots learned Eldlich, but they suck at it. They flip all their traps at the earliest activation time, even if it negates their own cards or destroy their own field. I almost lost to one despite this because I still have a masochist deck, but it used it's Eldlich Zombie summon effect to summon Ash Blossom.
Oh my god, Imagine Masochist Joe vs Megalith. Already a struggle normally with the loaner, same with Ruin And Demise. Specially when the final duel of that one throws you a DEMISE, SUPREME LORD OF ARMAGEDDON, first turn.
Welp been watching the series for a while both this one and cimo's.... wish me luck peeps, im a give this a shot. See ya in the ladder fellow masocists ^^
At first I would have been against the new rules I think one of the biggest qualities of the masochist series is its simplicity and the marathon involved with it. But I think Cimooos series showcases what happens without that kind of scaling growth, you end up opening like 30 packs and only having 1 viable card that barely changes the decks structure. I think the double pack rule is good but the master proficiency test is unnecessary, it doesn't add a lot and it deviates a bit much from the existing format too much. Maybe trying to think of a rule around having the same type of strategy would be good to have in addition to the extra packs, otherwise al you are doing is speeding up the challenge rather then adding depth to it. A random idea: Once you get to platinum you get like 3 packs per win but every 30th pack you need to change a minimum of 10 cards in the deck or something like that.
That random idea doesn’t really work unless he has more cards that fit the strategy that naturally comes with collecting a bunch of generic cards. Makes 10 cards is 1/4 of the deck completely different than the normal strategy and just going to result in a less powerful deck
I think the new rules are a great choice. I've been noticing the same thing as you in other masochist runs so I think this would give your run more (hard)legs
About rule change, instead of straight up 2 master pack, maybe 1 master pack and 1 secret pack if unlock from that master pack. If no secret pack unlock from first pack then open 2nd master pack.
Does sound interesting but not sure what benefits opening from a secret pack would make other than giving him cards that mainly only work in an archetype when the natural of this type of challenge is a bunch of semi-generic or board cards that have to do with types or attributes
Maybe one rule that could work is being able to craft one card every three wins or something so you can have some way to actually work towards a coherent deck.
17:05 double checking an interaction I thought would be cool, but now I don’t think works: Could you put one of your pendulum monsters in the scale, then sac it to play this? I first thought “that’s a neat way to get some tempo”, but then thought “wait, pendulums can’t go to the yard, right, so that wouldn’t work anyways?”. I just… actually don’t know.
if you're looking for new ways to speed up getting cards and keep it interesting, maybe try solo mode, if you beat the missions using your own deck and your reward is the actual cards from solo, it still seems in the spirit of masochist, and you can actually get some synergistic cards.
And nearly all of the prize cards are things you'd find in Legacy Packs so you'll probably get to them eventually anyway. If you don't drown in unusable Normal Monsters first that is.
The standard rules from what I’ve seen is that you don’t use the cards you can gain in solo mode. Just pure legacy packs and master packs maybe sometimes people are able to get away with using cards that the game gives you like from challenges or forcing you to open a pack because it gave you a sr ticket
Here is a tip for defeating Bots (which the Gouki duelist was): Hearld of the Abyss. Bots have no idea how to deal with it and will time out when you activate it.
Considering in plat you are encoutering a tidal wave of Snake-eyes and co and you can rank down an extra pack is not gonna be like OP. All it really allows for is reducing the grind time for you. Which is cool and to see more changes to the deck faster is always gonna be neat.
Really like the 2 pack win in Plat. Think it'll help keep things fresh, I'd also be down even if you implemented it sooner like if you spend a certain amount of time in gold. The spirit of the series is the climb with bad cards, familiar cards start becoming fan favorite. I get hyped when I see maneater. So 2 packs I think will just help let these fan favorite get some jank support they need to fight meta threats.
What if you did something that let you choose a pack vs just the master pack? It could let you slowly build a stronger deck but keep the randomness of it.
I think a cool rule would be the ability of crafting one non-archetype card whenever you get promoted. But, to keep within the spirit of the run, make a wheel of staples and spin it instead of picking. bronze and silver would be a N rarity Gold a SR Plat a UR
I think Non-archetype would be bad as there's too much reliable power there. Being able to craft a copy of a card you have one of already in that rarity would be good instead.
@@MrShukaku1991I was thinking non-archetype to prevent something like staying between gold and silver and building constructed snake eyes lol but yeah, there are broken staples too ig.
Imagine if you had the stygian continuous trap that reduces the levels of all monsters your opponent controls, would be so funny and stop some good decks
Pretty sure I faced that exact Gouki bot (at least the script controlling the account) on my masochist account as well. Same play pattern and an at least similar name, but I can't double check anymore since it was last season.
X number of wins in a row alllows you to buy a pack from a random pack ( will need to have a wheel of some sort to spin to choose the pack ). Or something along those lines.
I just started my masochist account and I got some tribute deck ready, my boss monster is the one in the legacy packs that is unaffected when tribute summoned. And I also got two monarch spell chards that make my tribute summoned boss monster untargetable and undestructible. And if all else won't work I have an orbital hydralander
Did you think about this? 2 master packs in Plat or one “archetype specific” pack (the ones you unlock when you get SR cards) audience choice. 2 master packs can still be hot random garbage when grinding.
I was thinking instead of the two master packs, how about every time you win in platinum you can either open a pack or craft a copy of any n/r card you have, also the first time you go up each tier in platinum you can craft a sr (or ur in diamond).
27:11 Never trust anyone who names themselves after an archetype 6/10 (number I summoned outta nowhere) time they're lying to bait and/or troll. Source: me I do it all the time, it's funny.
I would be fine with Joe being able to open 2 packs in platinum rank just to be on par with the meta and not be underpowered for who knows how long. Though, Joe’s ride is a bit bumpy right now due to the janky decks he’s running into.
21:33 Well, unlike you this opponent was carried pretty hard by archetypal synergies that a Masochist deck simply won't have to such an extent (if at all).
i like the double legacy packs however i like to add a extra bit if, IF you make it to platnium, you can add any 1 support card to any card in the current deck that you got to platnium with and if you make it to master, you make a video about dungeon dice monsters
