RIP Sixto Rodriguez.
If all you hear is the "quality" of the voice then you miss 99% of the talent on display. The music, the lyrics, the phrasing, the feeling. Every voice loses something over time, but true talent continues to grow and improve just like a fine wine. Rodriguez has more talent in his pinky than most so called artists today.
Yesterday, I saw a film about Rodriguez, in a cinema in Dublin. Before, I didn’t know him, but after I have taken notice about him it’s impossible ignore his talent and his amazing life’s history.
God, I listened to you all the time in the early 70's. You were at every party I went too and I constantly played you. So GREAT to see you play here! PLEASE come to Australia
Seems like a man who sings for the love of singing. What a nice story to hear that he realized that he was famous on the other side of the world. He doesn't sing for recognition, but so glad that people from afar appreciated his genius and I am sure it gave him a lot of hope and desire to continue singing. Awesome.
COME ON, Crucify OUR MindS! LETS GO
I think his body of work is even more loaded with feeling today because he saw it back then and he has watched the human condition intently ever since and in his light and lyrical arrangements, he carries hope.
This man really has an incredible story. He is living in poverty while a record company is getting rich selling his records. I hope he can recover some of that money although I have a feeling he is not money motivated. He really seems like a quality person. In additon to his writing talent he really has a good voice. I wish him well and the best. He deserves it.
Fantastic man is Sixto Rodríguez, Iam Colombian and sow yuor movies "searching a sugar man" in Cali (thanks director and producers). In Cried with my girlfreind. Like said Polo Montañez (cuban musician, rip), " existen unos que brillan como la luna, pero no les dan una oportunidad". Iam happy for Sixto Rodríguez, I wish best for you and family. Colombia love you.
I saw "Searching For Sugar Man" the new documentary yesterday with my mother and one of my sisters.I was in tears while watching and listening to the story tellers. If you are a musician like myself you can't help but think about Rodriguez and what his life could have been those past forty years.I could go on & on about his story.Go see the documentary.......
Saw it also tonight on 60 minutes. Really is awesome. Too bad it took all this time to know him. I hope he gets the recognition and compensated for all the records that were sold.Someone made a lot of money on him.
Such an amazing song, and an even more amazing singer/songwriter! Have you all heard about the new Rodriguez documentary? I cannot wait to see it. If you go to his official website they have a trailer up there.
best lyrics i have ever heard after listening to his first two albums - puts the likes of Bob Dylan to shame -so sad he had to wait all these years to get recognition he surely deserved ----
ohh my god!! I'm guatemalan, total different culture, but good music has not borders. Please somebody help me, I want to see Mr. Rodriguez performance live before I die!!
Thank you so much kexp! ive gotten in2 so many artists cuz of you guys. always reppin the lesser known groups that should be heard. he looks good for late 60s. p.s. whats on the chain he's got around his neck
Fantastic song & performance. Can anyone tell me what he says after "Sugar Man is descriptive, not a prescriptive song. ...????" sounds a little like "Get your hook???? ... stay of drugs..." but "Get your hook" doesn't make any sense to me. Does anyone know what he said and what it means? Just really curious. Thanks!
Well l'm sure ur familiar with the clichè: "hooked on drugs", "hooked on Phonics", "hooked on Bach", "hooked on the cook", etcetera. "Get ur hook" just insinuates that if you get interested in something that is naturally yours, then you will not need an artificial hook, aka: drugs.

Do not miss the movie "Searching for Sugarman" - an incredible and talented poet/singer/human being.
I cry when I here his voice. I, a little black woman from Chicago. .. and I feel he sings my pain
I'm so happy the entire world has found you Rodriguez! Keep doing what you do, it's a gift.
RIP Rodriguez... you brought so much to this world x
RIP Sixto Thanks for the Memories - you are still a Legend in South Africa🥰

"It's a descriptive song, not a prescriptive song" Seattle, the home of Grunge music and Sub Pop Records.
After forty years in semi obscurity - the artistry remains. What a voice.
