Lyrics:
Street boy
You've been out too long
Street boy
Ain't you got enough sense to go home
Street boy
You're gonna end up alone
You need some love and understanding
Not that dead-end life you're planning
Street boy
You go home but you can't stay
Because something's always pulling you away
Your fast hellos and quick goodbyes
You're just a street boy
With the streetlights in your eyes
You better get yourself together
Look for something better
Street boy
You've been out too long
Street boy
Ain't you got enough sense to go home
Street boy
You're gonna end up alone
You need some love and understanding
Not that dead-end life you're planning
Street boy
Your sister says that every week
You just come home to eat and go to sleep
And you make plans you never keep
Because your mind is always in the streets
You better get yourself together
Look for something better
Street boy
You've been out too long
Street boy
Ain't you got enough sense to go home
Street boy
You're gonna end up alone
You need some love and understanding
Not that dead-end life you're planning
Street boy
There's one last word then I'll conclude
Before you pick up and put on your attitude
Bet you'll never find or ever meet
Any street boy who's ever beat the streets
Street boy
Street boy
Street boy
Street boy
Street boy
Street boy

Rest In Peace Sixto Rodriguez, thank you for your beautiful songs and wonderful vocals!!

In 1969 i was a runaway 15 yr old kid in LA Southern California . This song reminds me of those years of survival
RIP Mr. Musician. It was an honor to see your concert on September 30, 2018 in Bratislava, Slovakia ❤
OI'm 70 years old. San Francisco 1956, L.A. 1967, back to Oakland, then Ohio.. This is the only music that has ever brought tears to my eyes... Thank you Sixto..
Mike
You lived your live in the greatest possible live on earth for now.
Did you hear his music when it first came out? Or just recently?
Thats pretty deep. I can appreciate very much.Great comment.
Mike Bruning ..me too.
Ditto Brother!
Thank you for being the person you became. After all those years you realized how popular you were & yet you weren't angry at those crooks who robbed you of so much. Like you said you never expected anything from your music --- just a chance to play your stuff. R.I.P. Sixto.
That last 'street boy' is actually 'sweet boy', lovely song
Yeah I now at the end it sounds to me sweat boy I listening to it right
I loooove it! Rodriguez's voice sounds so sweet too. What a pure soul he is... The singer l mean.
Yeah man ❤👍
It's very true you can't get the street from a street boy he's a sweet boy🧡😎
It's crazy how this song was recorded over 40 years ago and it can still draw a parallel with another 27 year old, myself, from today...Good song
Real artists are timeless! He gave the world a gift every time he put pen to paper.
Life is just a cycle, there are tons of old songs that we can still relate to this day. Maybe that's because human nature will always be the same.
Cool.
Same ... greetings from Germany!
Haha, I'm 27 and this make me smile so much ❤️
I'm lucky
Me, a 20 year old Brazilian boy, who had never heard of Sixto Rodirguez (It seems that here in Brazil he is not well known)
I discovered him a few years ago thanks to RUclips's recommendation, and I immediately became a fan of this guy! He's a real poet! And me, a lucky guy to hear his songs... Hugs from Brazil
I recently watched search for Sugarman. Very humble individual
I ran away from home at 15 in 1969.
This song captures everything of those years that followed. Street life was a reality struggle
Such a great song! Love how he ended the song saying “sweet boy” after street boy. Like you are important, you are loved. Such a great soul! RIP Mr. Rodriguez
How sad is to know that there were and there will be such talented people who will never be recognized as they deserve. A gift so unappreciated ! . Just because they do not compromise , just becuase their whole existence is in opposition with the institutionalized notions . Just because the shape of their heart refuse to fit in societys fads . If only they could be understood . If only people were searching for these kind of people instead of pushing them aside And yet these quiet hearts could change the whole world . In todays world that has lost his values we are terribly in need of these valuable talents .
Well said :-)
he was loved by africa but he did know
he was understood alright, just didnt sell his soul to satan like they would of asked him to,refused to sign in blood
takes guts
Totally agree 👍
Have you heard about other artists- songwriters that are not popular ? It's been a long time since i discovered Sixto and i have never listened another one that i like so much
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!!!!!
He may be gone from this earth, but clearly this man will never die. I will never forget the way his music made me feel. Thank you, Sixto.
it's the way he sings. he has a certain magic..a real human quality in the lyric and vocal. and yes it also can bring a tear to the eye. I'm just so pleased this man's story was told, and I'm happy he now finally knows his music is loved and listened to all around the world. justice has been done. Rodriguez you are special
This song reminds me of my young teenage self when I was homeless & running the streets wild. I was able to get some help, went back to school, & went to college! Don't give up!
Same here, skinny white kid on the streets of Sth Auck (nz) then Sydney Aust. Ended up in the Army, 20 yr Career . Looking back I shake my head at how close I came to Prison or Death
I have a sixto portrait tattoo on my arm, it was made last week in 2017. Big respect for him and the working class..

Rodriguez has over taken me with his songs.. My soul is shaken to the core by his music!!!!!
Six we all the same deep inside only difference is our effort to progress even if we under the mountains
This song always makes me cry. I know a street boy, he's always on my mind.
My street boy is my dad
Girl same. I love my street boy.
I was a real street boy all praises to the most high I’m not
That means a lot Lourdes. I am a street boy, life is hard fucking strippers and hoes but I WILL PERSEVERE. Long live street boys.

The Sugar Man will never be forgotten ❤
As someone who knows MANY street boys, 'you'll never meet any boy who's ever beat the streets.'
Always lose, prison or death.
Miss you guys. ❤
Right on and some end up being slaves for 3 sq feet of space to sleep on.

My mates and I had his albums/cassettes. Rodriguez accompanied me on many surf trips in Australia in the late 70s! Rodriguez, thanks mate!!
Qué preciosa canción! Le descubrí gracias al documental "searching the sugar man" y me cautivó su vida,su música,su sensibilidad y conciencia.Gracias Sixto por hacerme mejor persona ❤
I just can't to say how much i respect this man, he created a great music for all times. Peace and respect to u 62 for all times.

Merci Seb 🙌
A true artist who never made money from music.
In addition all the world music pimps made millions..
He is a hero to me
I saw yhe documentary today. It was fire. And this guy was fire. R I P Rodriguez
it connects with me as a skateboarder with struggles in multiple situations

I wonder if he was talking to himself at some point in time? I've been a street boy, have so much respect for his music and his journey. Oh what a man!
J’avais vaguement entendu parler de cet homme, je découvre son histoire et cette chanson. Merci beaucoup.
This song is simple, yet it's brilliant.
kind of
Han Sixto har reddet mitt liv garantert .noe gudommelig gatto love the man,,
every song is so meaningful, I never get tired of these songs. I only learned of Sixto a couple years ago but it's been like Ive heard him my whole life.
Watched the Movie of the search for this man. Been a fan every since. He is the essence of perfection of any human I have ever imagined. Of course No one is above Christ. This man is certainly the closest one like Christ.
Christ could never write something like this
I was thinking the same, watching his story and thinking about what Jesus says and did, at the end of the documentary says he gave almost all the money to other people.. he's just great!
Super musique merci seb
This song brings a tear to my eyes every time.
Some folks will never understand the full import of Sixto's lyrics here.
Import?
This is so much more to this than about a street boy
i first heard "Cold Fact and Coming From Reality" in 1976, that was it, i listened heaps after that.
Then in 1981 at Tanelorn music festival
the word went out we were to have an international artist play.
Helicopter landed, Rodriguez played his set, then the helicopter took off.
Never heard anything about him until "Searching for Sugarman" came out.
Loved his music then,
Love his music now.
Thanks for your songs Rodriguez.
Love Sixto, poet and prophet.💟
This could have easily become a major hit with some polish...even as it is it holds itself true and pure.
Would like someone to play this song on my funeral. So touching!
Street boy finally went home sweet boy ❤ rip 😢
Watched the film about him and "shame on us" said I, never noticed this great man .not only for his songs but his way of life, hard worker...
2019 NYC ! I'm a hip hop dude but I like Rodriguezs music . Only someone from the bottom can make a song like this
Nos queda su música, una joya ❤
This song reminds me of a Top Deck European bus trip I did in the early 80's with lots of other Aussies and Kiwis. The courier of our trip, Tim, had a handmade tape of Sixto Rodriguez's music that was constantly played. Thank you, Tim, for introducing us all to his music. This song always reminds me of that bus trip - all of us young, away from home and parental eyes and having a whale of a time in Britain and Europe. Where have all those years gone!
Beautiful, brought me to tears because he was describing me. Before I found my passion. ❤
Great song and ur good artist
I thought that this gentleman played Latin music, incredible. , My new old Hero !
I also thought that this man made Latin music, I'm sorry m I study English
Lovely...
Love from Kerala, India..!
Sixto❤
There's a lot of compassion in this song. Makes a change from judging people.
This is a man that talks the thruth
A pure genius so underrated but he will remain a legend, thank you for your music love
This song goes hard as hell dude. Honestly Rodriguez got a lil gangsta on this track
You’ll never find or never meet, any street boy that has ever beat the streets
@Nicolas Lopez Sequeda That's a lyric in the song. If you live by the sword, you'll die by the sword.
Though now I am pondering the lyrics. The only way to change your life is to get off the street, at which point you wouldn't be a street boy anymore. But if you think you can "beat" the streets, then no...a street boy could not.
I listen to some cold rap but danm that line hits different
Rest in peace to an absolute king 👑
Sounds like a ghetto James Taylor, mixed with War. This could have easily been a hit back in the 70s, or even today for that matter. Much respect and RIP Sixto Rodriguez. The South Africans were right about you.
Unverständlich das solche wunderbare Musik nie gespielt wird. Gratulation zu diesem Stück. Hansi
Te amamos mucho Sixto, siempre en nuestros corazones ❤🌹
adore this song
love this song xx
The best
Sad to know that your great music never got its recognition until late in ur life but all things happen for a reason maybe it was for the better sixto forever the mexican bob Dillon
I can't believe this talented man went in the demolition biz rather than music. Great sound.........
He lived the life he was meant to ;-) His humility is a lesson.
@@steviemac2681 hes still alive
I've only ever cried during one film and that was Searching for Sugar Man. Best music ever.
Wow. Grew up and lived most of my life in Detroit area but never heard of him until today. Very different from the many flavors of music I am familiar with but deserves a place along side the groups that were huge here but never got exposure elsewhere. Adding to my Strictly Detroit playlist.
Funny enough, although he didn't sell a single album in the states when he started out. Without him knowing (his record label lied / didnt tell him), he was more famous than Elvis in South Africa. His fame reigned from the early 80's in South Africa. He only found out about it at the end of the 90's. When a diehard fan's website was found by Rodriguez' daughter, and she got them in contact. They organized a tour in South Africa for Rodriguez. He made a fortune from it, however he gave all his money away to his family and friends.
A genius is a person who displays exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight.
Masterpiece
eternity is sixto..
This is one of the few songs he has written where the sentence structure was not in a passive tense and I think it works extremely well...
Beautiful song - beautiful sentiment...
by far the best for his music and his life
I've heard an incredible story about this fantastic author, he was a star outside US and didn't know it. That's crazy! I love his songs.
Kishanna Conan Doyle yeah, watch Searching For Sugar Man, he was actually famous in South Africa. Its totally worth watching
Rafael De Stefano He was nearly as famous in Australia at the same time
Steve best cool, I saw the documentary and found it amazing!
Brilliant song writer ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

This song is amazing!!
Soy fan de Rodriguez desde que vi un documental de el en tv. .Me parecio fabuloso el tipo y a la vez injusto que no fuera reconocido en su momento...Un tipo que hay que admirar...
Un ser humano extraordinario.
Wow, not one copy/pasted comment on here.
Unique artistry inspires original thought, what a gift this man's music is--such a shame he didn't receive the recognition he deserved years ago.
A legendary musician/lyricist.
Straight to my heart I have fallen in love with this mans music
I explored your music only a few years ago, when I saw the movie sugar man.Beautiful songs. Thank yu

A truly amazing song. Sugar Man Rodriguez was a godsend.
You mean he IS a godsend

This song takes me back to my early 20s with my former partner, when we both moved, met and fell in love in a new city. We tried to find a home together and ended up living in 8 different
homes.
