You make it sound as if learning 3D is required. Grease Pencil has 3D powers but if a user chooses they can use it on a flat plain to draw, paint, do frame per frame or even rigged animation without leaving the 2D plain. For animation GP is much more powerful while Krita is best at raster painting, that's why studios use GP to animate & Krita for backgrounds.

@Mumu Mundo Exactly! Krita is awesome in drawing and painting, but Grease Pencil is just a perfect tool for animation... And it ain't that hard to use, I mean, Blender ain't hard to use in general either lol
I'm a sub btw, love your GP tutorials! 😄

Thank you so much for this input.
I was trying to figure out if blender was gonna be harder
Cz i use krita and i feel like it doesnt allow me to reach what i have in mind in terms animation
And ive seen alot of 2d animation created via blender and its what I'm visioning...but ive seen alot of videos saying its tough to learn or not worth it :/
But ur comment really motivated me to test out and experiment with blender!!

I didn't know that Grease Pencil even existed ! I would definitely give it a go cuz I'm trying to learn animation. Thanks for the awesome vid, guys !

i really love grease pencil its really cool to use with, i actually think krita is more of a drawing app. So in terms of drawing krita wins and in terms of animation, grease pencil wins

You are exactly right. Both are really good. But i would recommend using all two in a pipeline

Well, the French animation film "I lost my body" was nominated for an Oscar for best animated film in 2020 and made entirely in Blender. First designed in, then given a 2D style in Grease Pencil. As were the bumpers between the movies (Spring) and the digital backgrounds for the ceremony. But both are great developments for the digital art community (hobby and professional use alike). One is organised in Amsterdam, the other in Deventer. So whatever you choose, you're going Dutch.

Blender is More for assemble and get some drawing filled, i would say not confortable to go into painting, while i see krita result there is a big difference there.. it seems like photoshop illustration work animated..

Poster obviously has a krita bias, is probably more 2d based.
Plus u could actually just focus on 2d animations in blender tho I won't recommend it.
Animes like attack on titans, JJK and chainsaw man was made using 2d 3d hybrids.

I switched to krita due to blender giving me issues, krita also renders faster.

Blender needs a more powerful computer to be stable (if that's the issue). I monitor RAM usage in Task Manager and close programs I don't need or simply restart Blender.

I don't compare them, the usage is different. For 100% painting any software like krita or clip studio will be great, but for something like 3D layouts with 2D strokes + crazy camera movement grease pencil is king because is probably the only software with this kind of workflow in existence.
