  • HOEK DESIGN DIXBAY - 2004
Dixbay her distinct looks sets her apart from other yachts in the range, with a moderate sheer, longer overhangs
and a lower freeboard. This graceful profile was initially developed for an owner who wished to sail in shallow Dutch waters while also being able to cruise with just himself and his wife onboard.
The brief for this first Hoek Classic 73 Dixbay to have short-handed sailing capacity was facilitated by her cutter rig with hydraulic furling headsails and hydraulic in-boom furling mainsail. The winches are hydraulically powered, and bow and sternthrusters aid manoeuvring in tight spots. A lift keel arrangement enables shallow water cruising.

Does it come with full-time varnisher?

Top varnish like epifanes hardwood oil (one component) has UV Filter. If a nèw varnish is done right from scratch with 7 layers which is a joy to work with wood ... then you have a long time protection by a strong fundament. You will need every two years only little bit fine sanding of the top layer and refresh it with two new layers. Its easy done ... and the wood will thank it as it still can actively breath. Living on a 37 foot wooden two master I see from too many boat owners they seal the wood with 2 component epoxy. Thats the killer and brings always problems. The epoxy iver time hardens, becomes brittle... and vua tiny cracks water sneaks in ... and rot starts. An alternative to hardwood oil is usung Linseed oil. A sailing friend owns a 100 year old smack (british fishery sailing boat) use it sunce decades, its even more easy as such type of wooden sailing vessel does not need to look high gloss like a Gentleman's yacht.
