Lecce-Gallipoli-Monopoli-Polignano a Mare-Fasano-Ostuni-Brindisi is my favourite triangle in puglia. Beautiful beaches, great food and drinks and people that know how to live very close to heaven, while still connected to their home soil. Please remember that summer-life there begins "at dusk" and work starts long before dawn.

Which was your base town? Did you rent a car?

My base was Ostuni and I had a car, which I thought is very advisable since the ostuni train station is some km away in the (not so pretty) industrial zone of Ostuni.
Also there are no taxis running and I can't say how reliable the bus is. Usually nothing works out as planned but in some other (usually funny) way. The only time you have to plan with great care and buffer time is when you have to catch your flight home, the rest will happen as chaotic as it normally happens down there. Walking the main streets is not advisable since the cars are driving like crazy / like Italians do ;-) and when walking the back roads at night do not forget a good flash light as there will be only the moon (or not) lighting your way.
I read in another thread that if you want to use the trains running up and down the coast it is advisable to stay in Lecce or Brindisi near the train station. I would choose Lecce over Brindisi but maybe you could stay in both towns.

@@thedude579 thanks so much. Can you send me links to the guides you used? do you wish you picked a different base town instead of ostuni?

I am sorry but I did not use any guides since I was there on holiday since 2000 very frequently. It is all from my personal experience.
I would pick Ostuni if you have a car and want to get to the beaches.
If you do not I would go to Lecce.
You will also need to choose whether you would like to rent a flat in the city center or a bigger house or trullo for 5 - 700 Euro/week (+300 Euro per week with pool) in the rural outskirts of town (campagna). There are plenty of offers in all price ranges and if it is not the high season you will find something for the reasonable 2 - 4 person prices I quoted above.

@@luisalvarez5512 I forgot a dinner at a masseria if you are not already staying in one. That will not be cheap but well worth the experience.
The masserias line the old SS16 to Fasano which is a "must drive" with car or motorcycle.
It will be cheaper to get a panzarotto and lots of other sandwiches and drinks at the garden restaurant "Tony bar" in Fasano.
If you want a high class beach resort then "Borgo Egnazia" will be the place to stay and also play golf.
If you want a typical italian beach day on a city beach you must visit the town of "Torre Canne" on a weekend in the high season. It will not get more bella figura than that.
There is a nice place for a "swinging sundowner" at the harbour of Torre Canne at the "ciporti cocktail and soul" before checking into some posh or less posh seafood restaurants.

Great video. I have subscribed to your channel int he past for your equally great videos of UK holiday spots. Question...I am considering renting a large villa in Italy for a milestone birthday next October. Was looking at Umbria and Tuscany but now considering Puglia. I found a great villa right outside Ostuni. Any thoughts? Umbria vs Tuscany vs Pugllia?

    • @MemorySeekers

Hi John, thanks for subscribing. I am afraid we have not been to Umbria or Tuscany to compare it to Puglia, all I can say is we found the region very different and more relaxed than our visits to Northern Italy. The food is incredible and as a base Ostuni is certainly as good as any we visited. Our fav was Leece, especially for dinner and evening walks. Hope that helps in some way.

Tricky one from the beaches we saw on our trip I would say, Polignano a Mare is great lively city but beach get crowed. Gallipoli has a small sandy beach in the old town but less crowded and cheaper for nights out than Polignano. Also closer to other towns if you fancy a day in another place. Hard to say but hope it helps in some way.

In Apulien gibt es weniger Erdbeben als z.B. in den Abruzzen, da Apulien auf der afrikanischen Erdplatte liegt.
Meine Favoriten in Apulien liegen in folgendem Dreieck: Monopoli, Polignano a mare, Fasano, Ostuni, Gallipoli, Lecce und Brindisi.
Der Rest Italiens ist aber auch sehr lebenswert ;-)

Would you stay here a night and then Lecca 1 night? Whats your recommendation?

    • @MemorySeekers
      @MemorySeekers  3 месяца назад

Personally I think Leece deserves more than one night as it’s quite large and has some wonderful bars and restaurants. If you only have 2 days then I would visit Ostuni the day and then have two nights and 1 full day in Leece.

Nice video but the criticism isn't attractive. 15 Euros is just good for me for a Tuk Tuk, archeological details are precious whether the details are less or more, everything to do with history and heritage is special. Thanks though for a nice video and introduction to this town.
