I'm the guy he mentioned in the video. If you buy this product, after pairing you can update the firmware. I did that on the first unit, and I think that may have possibly been the cause of my problem. The company says to only update if you're having issues.
I never tried it before the update, it may have worked fine. I figured newer was better. I never updated the second one, and it works very well.
Thanks for the update bill! Pinned
@@TheCarCareNut Is there any way to get Apple Carplay on a 2015 Highlander? Mine has the, not very good Toyota system and Maps. Thank you.
Ok, let’s give this a try! Thank you gentlemen
I’ve been using that exact device for about 6 months in my Tacoma. It was worth the $120 to me. I’d easily buy again.
My reliable reference for everything Toyota/Lexus. Keep up the good work 👍
I bought one of these shortly after buying my new Camry XLE 2 years ago. It works perfectly. I almost didn’t buy it because of all of the negative reviews and of how it expensive it was,but I don’t regret buying it and would definitely buy it again.
Thanks for this, now I can take full advantage of my wireless charge pad in my RAV4 hybrid!!!
Thanks, Car Care Nut! You’re a thorough guy whose videos and opinion I trust, I bought one of these. I love the thing! I appreciate your effort making these great videos! The work you put into these is obvious! Well done!
Thanks for the review - Wireless CarPlay is especially useful when you have wireless charing in your car as well. Otherwise I've noticed it chews battery life on your phone pretty quickly.
The qi charger in my Rav Prime is crap it doesn’t really work.
@@jsanders299 same here - 2021 R4P - I’ve gone back to wired CarPlay because of this.
I use AA wireless for android. Works great also. I've been using it for past 4 months and works every time. Connection time is bwteen 10-35 seconds. It's well worth the money for me.
Yes, same small box you plug into USB port.
Is that the name? AA WIRELESS?? And how much it cost you?
Yes, AAwireless is the name and I paid about $85 on indiegogo.
@@bartoszchucherko9621 btw, do you mind if I ask you what kind of vehicle do you drive?
2020 Camry
Nice, this would be extremely helpful for delivery drivers. One of my biggest turn-offs about the 2021 Corolla Hybrid was not having wireless Apple CarPlay.
I think wire CarPlay is better. Imagine 1 minute to the map show up on the screen.
2021 no wireless CarPlay that’s unbelievable they should have had it installed years ago
@@KungFuHenny yeah they putting them into the 2024 models smh
I have one of these for my RAV4, and for the most part, it’ll work pretty well. Sometimes it’ll be pretty bad and it’ll crash and stuff, but most of the time it’s relatively problem free. Can’t wait to see Toyota add wireless CarPlay to more models down the line and hopefully by the time I need a new car again, it’ll have wireless CarPlay built in. For now though, this dongle does the trick!
2 years later and it’s still not in the 2024 SE Camry
I always use a wired connection for CarPlay. The lightning cables are cheap vs this dongle. Mine takes a few seconds to recognize my device as CarPlay
Glad you mentioned the benefits of the Italian tuneup…my Dad used to do that, too. How often should we do it in modern cars??
Hi! Every week or two actually if you don’t drive highway often
@@TheCarCareNut Wow that is more than I expected, thanks!! Some on Prius Chat with Primes are saying they go for months without the ICE engine ever coming on...that's not smart!!!
Thanks for the video.
I used wireless build-in CarPlay in Audi for a month while they tried to fix my car. It has even longer delay or loosing connection more ofter than with Carlinkit.
Sometimes it takes long to connect, when your phone is connected to wifi. It uses bluetooth only for setup and initialization of wifi tunnel. It doesn’t transfer data over BT.
May I ask you what model (1,2or3) you use? The 2nd and the 3rd use wifi 5 GHz and it is much snappier.
Lossless and JBL :-) . Sorry, but it makes me smile. I like Toyotas, but JBL is the average sound system. Have nothing against it, but I doubt you can hear the difference with it.
I did the same with annoying green led.
Once again, thanks for the video
Hi! This one is 3.0. Hear you on the JBL but it’s better than the non JBL
@@TheCarCareNut
I have Bang and Olufsen 3 D which is much superior than JB and I can hear the difference now. 10 out of 10 my friend started the music and I could tell.
Shame on me. I’m semi pro musician.
I go from Audi Q7 2018 to Highlander. May be Highlander has JBL, but I do need to repair it every month (sometimes it is twice a month) .
I tried Lexus RX-350, but it is so old , so I decided to go with Toyota.
I would like to say thank for your videos and what are you doing for people. You really help me with my car choice.
Wow thank you for the honest review. There is so many reviewers out there with this item and don’t share this kind of feedback.
This device has 21% one-star rating. This is extremely high for an Amazon product, one of the highest I've seen. A good product usually has less than 10% one-star rating. According to one reviewer's comment, the device typically lasts for 2.5 months before it stops working. I follow this channel, because I trust Car Care Nut's expertise and credibility. If this information about this device is accurate, then I think he should read other reviewers' comments and reconsider his recommendation.
Thanks for this one 👍🏻. Can you possibly also do a video tutorial on setting up a dashcam properly.
Comma 3 review!? I have one for my 22 Camry and it’s amazing with openpilot! Makes my commute to work a breeze.
Love this guy. Learning a ton. But this is a no go. I’ll just plug my phone in and get the best of it. Besides new tech will be along to better this I would think.
Regarding the “next track” delay, I’m not sure if that’s the dongle, to be honest.
Every Camry I’ve had if I plug it directly into the car’s USB port, the charging is incredibly slow, and so is the reaction to “next track” buttons.
Will this work on my 2013 RX450h?
Thanks for the recommendation. I got it to work in my Corolla. Works as you described.
I recommend CPLAY 2 Air. Have they delay issue but other than that all good. Have been using it for 2.5 years now
I was looking forward for this review. I will order one for my camry
Cool stuff! Didn't even know this was possible....so of course I ordered it for my 2015 RX350. We'll find out soon...haha.
Did it work? Just curious because I also have a 2015 RX too.
Wow, a Comma 3 just in your car, I hope one day you'll talk about that too.
Anyway I've also got one 😉
I'm an old school guy. My lexus has apple carplay with usb connect, not wireless. I love it, super reliable, super stable. I heard a lot of people keep on complaining about wireless carplay cut off during the driving, whatever. I mean cable is good, it charges the phone and at the same time it does carplay. I get my phone full charge when I arrive at my destination, why not right?
Thanks for the review. I was thinking about getting something for my car.
Do you recommend it for Lexus 2018 Rx 350 - does not come with car play - or is there an update from Lexus dealership. I was searching that topic last night-
May god bless you and Keep you.
Mr Toyota Man…… hope your doing well in chicago… stay safe…❤️😄✌🏾
Thanks for another useful update. I’ve been wondering about these.
On the Lexus models, I’ve read somewhere on some forum a while back that there’s a software solution for this but it involves tricking the car’s internal BT module and USB thumb-drives if you’re computer savvy.
I was wondering about this. How many models of Toyota/Lexus offer built in wireless option. Been busy will try to watch your 300,000 mile Toyota/Lexus video today.
Can you leave this in your car? Would the battery be drained after you get back in? Looking forward to your response!
Ottocast U2-X Pro for wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto avail for $99 on sale. Like having a computer server when your data is transferring over several servers there is Latency. It occurs with any dongle you get, a delayed response. I've had my Ottocast for nearly 5 months... I rate it 8.8 out of 10 stars. Nothing is perfect but Ottocast works very well. Plug it in the USB port and leave it hidden under the Camry wireless phone charging dock. No more plugging and unplugging.
Just had a quick question, The transfer case on my 2021 4Runner off-road was damaged, fortunately Toyota will cover the transfer case under warranty and they are getting a new one in. Do you think that the transmission was damaged as well? I know they are planning to do a transmission flush to check for metal after they put in the transfer case. Is there anything else I should look out for besides transmission?
He’s got a comma 3 with openpilot!!! 😃
Is there an adapter for use in older vehicles? 03’ ES300 or an 06’ GX470?
yes once again very helpful getting for my toyota highlander.
Found your site a couple of weeks ago and love it. Thank you
My 2018 Camry SE did not have Apple CarPlay when I bought it. The dealer added it about six months later. Does that mean it fits the description “factory installed? Or no? Thanks again. Blessings on you to!
Yes after dealer performed an update to add carplay feature it doesn’t differ from cars that come with it from the factory. It’s software.
I just wish my 2018 Prius Prime had the same option. I love the car but it's infotainment is horrible. My wife has CarPlay in her new 2021 RAV4 hybrid and it makes me insanely jealous.
Hi! It should work on your model if you can use apple CarPlay using the cable
Thank you for your responses! I have enjoyed CarPlay via a cable. I”ll give the Carlink a try. Again, thank you.
@@12sd thank you. That’s what I thought (it was a software) but was uncertain. Thank you for your response.
I can’t wait for you to do a review on the comma ai.
I would say good product, only thing that happens to me is, When car is parked over night outside on 18F freezing cold. The system won’t work. Noticed that couple of times. But for $90 can’t complain
Thank you for a well informative reviews: the good and the not so good about this product.
Do they have the same thing for Android Auto?
Also AMD is that what I think it is I see in the windshield above the screen? 😀 The comma ai open pilot? Could you do a review on this
Hundred percent is a comma 3 😂 I have one. It’s great and as long as you know it’s limitations it’s amazing for commutes and road trips. Tight turns, quick stops, stop signs and when you’re at a signal light there is no car in front of you you’ll want to disengage. But I just took it for a 300 mile trip and probably touched the wheel 3 or 4 times except for when I made lane changes which it’ll also do for you
@@josephyang3260 I’ve been contemplating as to whether I should get it. I hear great things about it. Just can’t decide if it’s worth the money or not
Yes it is! Almost 500 miles in and I’ll do a review on it soon
Off the topic question, I have a 2018 XSE V6 Camry that didn't come with apple carplay or android auto. I heard a rumor that I can have my dealer install it on my car. Do you know if this is true? Thanks for another great video.
Hi! On some models apple CarPlay can be added. Android auto cannot for the early years
Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if Toyota will add Android Auto to existing CarPlay-only systems? It's just software, right? They did retrofit CarPlay on models with touch screens a while back.
Thanks for the overview. Is there also passthrough wired CarPlay and will it work wth multiple users in the same car?
Can you show us how you wired the dash cam ??
Congratulations on your new Camry ! There are people who can positively influence those they interact with. You are certainly among them. Thank you for sharing a lot of interesting information about Toyota cars !
Soon I'll own a Camry Hybrid. This model sold in Europe is being built in Japan. Do you know if it comes with the remote engine start feature (on higher trim level) ?
Hi! Things might be different in Europe as far as trims but usually the higher trims will come with remote start
I'm using CPLAY2AIR in my current car (Ford Focus) and will switch to a Yaris soon. I hope it will work as good in the Toyota as in the Ford. One downside is that I can't really hide the thing in the Yaris since there is only one USB slot. in the Focus I have two, one of them hidden under the armrest.
Video suggestion: comparison of different phone mounts and which one is best
Great vid! How can we connect?
Great review, thank you for your efforts!
Would be great if I didn't have an S10, great video for people with iPhone though. Good work!
Hi @The Car Care Nut, been a year, how has this held up? Living in the South, automotive interiors can be harsh conditions (hot) and some of these devices are not built to withstand this type of environment. Wondering how this has held up for you over a year.
How do you feel about Aisin world standard transmission fluid ? Is it ok to use? You would think it was the same thing right? I notice it’s the only aftermarket fluid that’s labeled as world standard fluid and not just compatible and it’s the maker of the transmission?
Hi! It could be the same but honestly I wouldn’t risk it.
I have connection issues with mine on my 2023 Toyota Yaris. Do you know if I have to disable Toyota touch with my iPhone before connecting the carlinkit? Do the two connections conflict sometimes it connects sometimes it doesn’t. I have to go into setting for the carlinkit and press “forget this device “ then start again for it to connect, I was wondering if the phone already connected to Toyota Touch had anything to do with this ?
Does this work for a corolla 2019 without Apple Carplay? Thanks!
Thanks for the info, while you’re connected to the wireless CarPlay via Bluetooth, are you also able to be connected to the Bluetooth in the car so you can talk hands-free?
Hi! You talk handsfree through apple CarPlay when connected. You can also initiate calls from apple CarPlay as well
How is your wireless working these days? I have the exact one. Mine is starting to fail here and there.
Hello Sir . Is this product working in Toyota Land Cruiser 2011?
Wired for the win!
Please tell me where you work! I need my Landcruiser worked on basic stuff 2021
I got an OBD2 scanner plugged into the port in my car for at least 8 months now. I just kinda like to monitor all the info it gives. No problems whatsoever till date. Do you thing it's feasible to keep it plugged in 24/360?
can u make a video on how to install a 3ch dashcam professionally in hybrid camry 2022 model ? please it will be much appreciated
Will this work if your stock stereo isn’t touchscreen?
Has the comma AI been worth the purchase?
I’ll have to keep up the old fashioned plug in. Can’t get less sound quality out of my Mark Levingston.
Hello, is there a difference between the 3.0 Carlinkkit with the 4.0 Carlinkkit? I would consider your recommendation based on your use. Thank you!
The 4.0 supports Android auto and Apple CarPlay. 3.0 is for Apple CarPlay only
We own a 2018 Camry Hybrid LE and cannot find CarPlay under the menu. Is this a DIY project or should we take the car to our local Toyota dealer?
Awesome, honest review. Thanks a bunch! I'll keep the wire
Apparently I don't need Apple CarPlay? I have the 2017 Keyless Toyota Camry Hybrid. My Entune system is the one with a small “SiriusXM” and “HD Radio” icons beneath the touchscreen. Both of my iPhones the 6S and then the 12 immediately paired up with Enturne via Blue Tooth for on-scree message. Phone calls list of contacts in the iPhone for making phone calls and for selecting stored in the iPhone tunes over the car speakers. Very good microphone and good sound for making hands off cell phone calls and for listing to music from the cars very nice FM-HD radio. Bought the Camry new.. never had any problems including the Entune system.. With an iPhone and HD radio (in Los Angeles) I never did sign up for the Navigation App or for Sirus XM.
Would the wireless CarPlay unit work from the USB connection in the center console?
Can i use this device on my two cars both are 2011 lexus e350 and Avalon?
I have a Toyota Sai it is Japanese made and a hybrid. Would I be able to used that device in my car even though I don’t have CarPlay ?
Thanks for the review. Is this the comma Ai installed in your car?? If so can you please do a review about this product
Hi! Yes it is. Hoping to film the review soon
Good information thanks !!!! Life is good !!
I don't have an iPhone, does this product also work with Android phones?
I have a 2018 Camry SE and I was wondering if there is any plans to add Android auto to the car with an update.
Did you get an audio output when you used thr google or Apple Maps?
Will this work for the rear seat entertainment system??
Mine is a CarPlay 2 Air and seems to just like yours. Only quirk seems to be if I leave my phone plugged into it that confuses it when the car is started so I have to unplug the phone before starting. (I work in a secure govt bldg so no electronics are allowed)
Hello, will this work for 2017 Lexus ES 350? Please let me know. I need it badly.
Thanks for the video , thinking to get one
Sounds like your microphone is picking up a high-pitched whine. Just wanted to let you know. Didn't notice it in your other videos
This was the last video with this microphone. It died immediately after this video. New one is in and working for future videos. Thanks for the heads up
Hi AMD
Do you have any suggestions for screen mirroring from a Apple devices to a Toyota RAV4? I spent a lot of time in my car. I look for things to watch on my Iphone. It would be great if I could watch them on my RAV4 screen. Thanks for any suggestions.
How do you like the Comma AI setup in your Avalon?
Can you make a video on the qi wireless charger? everyone seems to have a problem with this thing not working. 2021 prius here. it initially turns on and charges but then after 10 seconds it drops the charge and turns off.
Have you tested that unit on a 2022 Hilux
hi , can you recommend one for wireless android auto please
What would be the options for a 2014 ES 350 with NAV. Thanks!
Do you have a link for a larger screen that comes with apple & android car play with Navugation? I bought a 2016 lexus NX200t. The car is beautiful but didnt come with Navigation and the screen is kinda messed up like someone wiped it with some kind of solution and it removed gloss on screen. I found some options which run $800 but the reviews show they still have bugs in system. I been following you for a while now i used your info to help me choose Lexus. I was gonna get a RX but after watching a video you put out on timing cover leaks and how much went into the repair i went with NX. Which i wish i did RX lol NX is on the smaller size . i get one next year good willing. Can you point me in right direction for replacement screen/Infotainment headset.
Could you make a video about entune used in the 2018 Camry with Android please?
Its not a stable application. Entune must be the very worst application that ever came out of Toyota.
I've set it up several times and it works for a short time couple of weeks and then it won't make the connection to the phone.
This prevents me from using the Scout navigation application on the head unit.
Would it be possible to show how to make the connection again easily? Has Toyota addressed this issue, will they ever or am i stuck with this thing? Also does this device work with Android?
Thanks
I wonder if there is a way to retrofit the Apple car play head unit from a new Tacoma into a 2016 Tacoma.
Based on this video, ordered! But it doesn't work with Toyota Avalon Hybrid 2016.
On my free oil change on my 2021 camry should I let them charge me 15.00 for efi fule treden in the gas tank
Hey pal what you think about the lexus isf 2012 are the high in cost to service
I actually just found out about a much better dongle than this one, and I'm shocked I didn't know about it early on. It's this one called Pairr; it costs a little bit more than the Carlinkit ($129.95 for Paiir vs $120 for Carlinkit), and it works incredibly well. Just received it earlier today, went through its dead simple setup, and now every time I start up my RAV, it's up and running probably by the time I'm about backed out from my parking spot. Feels about as smooth as wired too!
And this works with Lexus/Toyota?
@@greggarnier1412 Yup! All that needs to be done is plugging it into the same USB port that you would otherwise use for wired CarPlay, and after the initial set up of connecting to its Bluetooth and going through a pairing process, similar to that of just Bluetooth, from there on out, it will just within mere moments after turning your car on.
What about for a 2012 Lexus RX 350 that has the navigation screen but you have to use the mouse it’s not touchscreen?
I was shocked to discover that my 2022 Avalon Limited does not have wireless Apple CarPlay. I have a 3 year old Ford that has wireless Apple CarPlay. The reason this device has some troubles is because it is trying to do it all over Bluetooth ONLY. To do Apple CarPlay correctly, it MUST have a Wi-Fi connection also. In my Ford, you connect your iPhone to the Ford with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The Bluetooth does simple data instructions but the Wi-Fi handles video and audio flawlessly. Shocking that Toyota is so far behind the curve. Future iPhones are likely to have NO connector whatsoever. Hopefully, by that time these little add on modules will get better. My Avalon has Wi-Fi, perhaps they'll be some kind of an update that will correct this shortcoming.
Is that a Comma 3 I see? Very based.
