In the past year, Lego finally made a _friction_ pin with stud. They come in red and dark bluish gray, and you can swap in eight of them at the front of the Axalara to make those tiny claws all be perfectly aligned, as opposed to constantly spinning around. The same goes for Bitil and Takadox, and probably plenty of other sets.
I think they may've skimped a bit on filling out some bits to keep the set from being too heavy. As is, it weighs a ton, and it needs to be possible for a kid to actually hold it like a gun and swoosh it around.
The weight is a good point to bring up. But I look at those silver details on the rear (large shields) and something like that easily could have been added on different areas. It is incredibly well balanced though as it is, extra detail definitely would have thrown that off
I am 29 now. And still own this set from 15 years ago it's basically in half due to age 😅. But... To date. It's quite frankly the best piece of Lego design I ever owned. It's absolutely bad-sick. It looks like a hand cannon, combined with a life size pod racer. The flame red colours look so elegant. And as a toy & set it was so so fun for hours & years I adored it.
This is honestly one of my fav sets currently, and the Axalara t9 is supposed to be the biggest and the strongest of the T vehicles. But Lewa was kind of just a green copy of the remolded Pohatu. But I’m still hyped to see what comes next on Mata-Nui-Monday!
@@AllOutBrick wait whats the next one going to be? i got vezon and fenrakk, axonn, brutaka so I can make (whats probably gonna be my icon of my Bionicle collection) vezon and the kardas dragon, but like you I feel like I’m jut taking an L when talking about this…
Man, I was really hoping we'd finally get to see another set with a 9+ score, but I understand your decision. I just absolutely love its sleek design and launcher mechanism so much that it justifies the lack of some extra detail for me.
I was really really contemplating it on this one! But when thinking of those other 9+ sets they either have incredible detail or a revolutionary design/function. Just a little extra detail and this would be one for sure
I haven’t seen anyone point this out but the box art is actually 2 pieces off of the actual build. The two tan pieces near the front are red on the box
New sub here! After doing some brick replacement for my Bionicle sets (so many broken joints :/), I found your channel and am absolutely hooked on all these reviews! These videos have really helped me with my understanding of Bionicle’s history as a franchise, and I absolutely love it! Looking forward when you get to the Bara Magna waves. Those were the Bionicles I grew up on and own a lot of!
I did obtain this set, though not until June 22 of 2009; nearly a year after its initial release. It would be the largest Bionicle set I would obtain, but it isn't the largest set of the entire theme in terms of pieces. This was also my only time having a version of Lewa, to which he would be the final appearance of the Rahkshi legs, Inika legs and Inika knee armor in dark stone gray, and the penultimate appearance of the Toa Metru-style hip piece in that color. The rounded Inika chest armor in lime green also made its final appearance here. On the Axalara T9 itself, the "Air Katana" on the sides and the "Staffs of Loyalty" which function as landing gear make their final appearances, as do the claws and Razor-Edged Protosteel shields from Nuparu Inika (8729) and Mahri (8913) respectively. The shells we first saw on Onua Mistika and Bitil are exclusive to this set in Mata red, and this is the only Bionicle set to have the 13M Technic beam in that color. But this is not the last set to have the Av-Matoran jetpacks...
Bought this set with Christmas money right after my family moved from Alaska to Utah at the end of 2008. It was one of a handful of positive memories that made that tough move a bit smoother for my teenage brain. The Axalara was so goddamn cool, even my 20-year-old brother kept trying to butt in and help me build it, and he hadn't been interested in legos for years. Also, after I finally brought myself to disassemble it, I used the parts to make instruments for an all 2008-era Toa metal band. If I remember correctly, the lineup was as follows: Tahu on Lead Guitar, Gali on Vocals, Onua on Bass, Pohatu on Drums, Lewa on Keys, and Kopaka on ELECTRIC CELLO. Young James knew what they were about. Also, I'm finally all caught up! Looking forward to the rest of the series.
My favorite part of these videos is the sped up build process. I don't know if other people would enjoy it, but I'd love to watch the speed build for just a little bit longer
The speed of them in this video is actually the timelapse speed on my camera. I've seen people create longer ones for large sets, I may do that in the future rather than incorporating the timelapse to reviews
You may look like a hero, You may feel like a hero... You may be one Inika, you may be many. You may have new masks, new armor, new equipment. You may activaite your powerful light up sword and load up you multishot zamil launcher. But it's not what you got, it's what you do with it... that makes you a hero
I remember I got this in an auction for about 20$ (with only one missing piece) a couple of years after Bionicle was finished. For a kid this was an amazing playset.
I actually had this and the Rockoh T3 and both were absolutely amazing sets. I loved them and am kinda sad that I no longer have them. But I gave my brothers all of my sets when I moved out on my own, so I am not upset about it that much. I had good memories and I am glad the sets went to good use.
I actually got this on clearance on a local toy store when I was like... 14? For like 30 bucks. Bought it and also Vezon & Fenrak for another 15. Best bargain of my life probably.
I know i'll be waiting a while but gooooooooood I can't wait for you to get your hands on Skopio! I got mine recently for £70 off ebay and ooooooh man it just makes my brain smile when I look at that absolute unit!
@@AllOutBrick same! always wanted it as a kid and blown away to have it all these years later. I hope you enjoy it even a fraction of the amount I have when you get it ^^
Love the mask too! And no not forgetting! Just ended up going in set number order, probably should have gone with a more logical one so this was the final set
Can’t wait for you to review the gladiators ones , I think they were named glatoran they were the ones I grew up more and finally had Mata Nui as a figure
An amazing set, affectionally called by many (including me) as the "big red axel". Not my fave, personal creations overpower it, but it's amazing nonetheless.
I was one of the lucky kids whose parents were willing to get me this beast of a set. I friggin loved it, but my ADHD brain took it apart and used so many of its parts to make MOCs I still have today. Still fond of this set tho
I dont understand... what is a 10 for you? Like at this point there is no bionicle set that meets that 10/10... and probably its not going to be one... so, the bionicle series doesnt have a 10/10 set ever in its run? Thats wierd!
So to me there is no such thing as a 10/10. That'd be a "perfect" set, and would mean no set could possibly ever be better. I also like to keep the 9+ range very exclusive to separate the best of the best from the rest of the field while also being able to tier them as well rather than having say 6 sets as 10/10 or 9.9/10, I can have them ranked throughout the 9.0-9.9 range
@@AllOutBrick i would say that a 10/10 is not perfect but a statement of how great it is. And there could be 2 10/10 sets not as a competition but a great execution in its own way. There is nothing perfect in cinema or in any medium but yet the 10/10 mark is to recognize an amazing piece! dont be fooled, perfection is just the direction but never the destination :) thank you for taking the time to respond.
Last time I was this early, Bionicle was still around!

Yes yes yes, this. The pins not having friction are so frustrating because you can never display a set right
Oh man I remember this set - this is the best toy I've ever got as a kid and I was so proud to build it! God the memories
