The show was much more real in those days. Even the way punters entered the pub was done in a natural and believable manner. Now everything seems staged and predictable...
The cast now are a bunch of Essex y-boys or Middleton's from Hertfordshire so not proper Eastend at all. Thd scriptwriters and directors where far far better back in those days.
I disagree. I think now everyone is too ordinary and realistic, like they were picked off the street. We don't have real actors anymore. Back in the day, soap stars had theatrical chops and a craft. Now we have nothing but people who are like those you see in every day life and all the magic is gone.
I don’t think the soaps were held in the same esteem then. They didn’t really get much press coverage until the Ken/Deirdre/Mike love triangle on Corrie. The tabloid tv critics lavished praise on EastEnders, such as Hilary Kingsley in the Mirror, for episodes such as Den & Angie’s two hander. It’s great that the soap awards now acknowledge the hard work and performances even if the ceremony itself is a bit cheesy.

Yes I enjoyed it so much back in those day's gritty and realistic much better storylines
How on earth why Anita Dobson never got any awards for her potrayal of Angie.
She played her part fantastic
She did!,
Because she wasn’t in it long enough. Both her and Den left too early.

Back when the characters lives didn’t revolve around the intensive care unit of walford general 😂
Can't believe Ethel left Angie in that state.
