You are liberated. You are ever-free. Thank you so mich for such a powerful direct lesson about the nature of Self from thr Ashtavakra Gita. Be blessed
It's not helpful to say "Maya is illusion" or even "Maya means Measurement". Your informal definition is much more helpful "Maya is how we dissect the world into this and that according to our conditioning", i.e. the Jiva's world. I also like the image of the Jiva slowly receding as the Brahman slowly comes forward rather then "Jiva Bad; Atman almost-good; Brahman Good." Your messages, Jason, are well-suited to my needs, clarifying a lifetime of spiritual studies that were, at times, incredibly confusing. Thank you!
Hello Jason, is it common for people to study this kind of stuff for years on end and still feel like that haven’t fully grasped it? I feel like I get the gist of it but I can never be sure ..
Compare it to dreaming: in the dream there is a you and there are others in a world outside of you. Duality therefore. Once awake, looking back on the dream, you can see that the personal perspective was wrong because actually you were the whole dream, all of it. You were consciousness IN which the dream appeared, OF which it was made and BY which it was experienced. Nonduality therefore. Now comes the big question: what if life is just a dream? You may consider the reality of life and the world to be a fact but it really is just a belief. As in any dream. You are a believer without knowing it. Investigate that belief and you will see it is wrong. It is in any dream.
my buddhist teacher says repeatedly, you can study all you want, but if you dont practice, you cannot embody it. i find this to be true. knowledge without practice is only half understood. its the difference between experiencing the event and experiencing the description.
Atman is the soul, but this is only apparently duality, because the jiva does not exist, it is only a way of functioning of the atman, the soul. As long as the soul is stuck in matter, it identifies with the jiva, but this superficial identification is not real. The soul is the spirit (Brahman) when, from being stuck in matter, it breaks towards the sky, towards the universe. It is good that you do not say that Jiva and Atman and Brachman are three things. The Holy Trinity is one thing, not true duality or true trinity. Neri-neri was misinterpreted in many places during translation. The fact that "this is neither the soul nor this nor this" does not mean that it does not exist, but that you cannot find it in the body, you cannot find it with your senses, but it does not mean that it does not exist or that it is duality. Just as it is not duality that there is Atman, which is Brahman.
This guy called Gustav Meyrink said, paraphrased: "the Soul casts a shadow on the world." You think you are this shadow, but you are really the Soul. That's what the soul is... but ymmv. Concepts are confusing. The shadow is then the jiva explained in the clip. Once the Soul is light up, the shadow disappears and you realize who you are? Thanks for this video. It is deeply interesting to me.

And remember Atman IS Brahman. Your Awareness IS. Your body simply is context and an archetype of sorts to Express your Awareness

Only the one self can fully grasp the topics. If you are trying to understand it through the mind, it will always slip through the cracks.

I know the answer….it’s because we’re not actually free.
Freedom is a state of mind and a state of being.
No , we were always free.
I agree, we're not actually free...
