- The defeat has the advantage of giving you the option to still use the gate & loop with preamp pedals - always disliked losing the loop with the preamp into return wiring.
- the Bite switch is basically a built-in (fully tube-based) boost that's why it works best with external boosts with it turned off (middle position)
- the high-end aggression mainly comes with high presence and treble settings indeed as they have a unique taper and some extra circuitry surrounding them that makes the extreme settings usable or in some cases even desirable: I personally run the treble almost maxed out which gives the additional aggression and shifts the natural mid-scoop down to 500hz where it sits in the 5150-family
- also both the amp and the footswitch have a 9V-out to power your pedals with :)
- (edit) the whole thing is also rack-mountable and really lightweight, btw ;)

That defeat switch is a cool ass idea. I've got an OR120 preamp pedal that works well for doomy stoner tones when run into a power amp, and being able to have my pedal board in front of the amp without having to re route everything is super cool.

Been waiting for this one to be on your channel! It sounds really good! I don't think I would replace my Fireball 100 with it (mainly because the fireball still kills everything with it's insanely thunderous low end) but I am thinking about a dual amp setup since I am an only guitarist in my band. This amp, I think, would compliment the Engl well in a dual amp setup.

It's really punchy, rowdy, aggressive, it's got a big low end but it's tight. It's gainy but dry at the same time.
It reminds me a loooot of my Mesa Rev A Mark IV, which is my fav amp ever. I think I found a contender for the first place.
It's def a sick amp, and I totally get the Mark Vibes!
I´m tempted to accept the challenge, because my Mille Petrozza is gonna destroy it (as I say on every amp review, really an old one ). But this amp seems to be awesome for recording with all the features like the extra line level for example that you can combine with your interface. Just one example that is very relevant for me, because I honestly have problems to tame my Engl with the raw setup I use. The tone is great!

You can´t compare my gear to this amp, its completely different in what it is ment to be. I´m just joking about it basically. I´m convinced that it is impossible to get a better raw pure Tube Metal Tone than a Mille Petrozza can deliver. It is my opinion, but im also convinced that it is true and stupid enough to try to prove it. I always have to put a little disclaimer (rly is and old one) behind it.
I can´t be serious about it to an audience, because its the most rare Engl Amp on the planet. Its unfair basically when I throw it into the competition.
I really would like to see more Metal Reviews from you for example with that Amp. You just never got one I believe. So it is going to be my job I guess ;-)
I threw samples in some hotspots, and I really provoke. I just earn silence. Thats a good sign in the way I do it. I´m like okay, listen to this. Try to match me if you can. Basically in the largest Reddit metal group.
If you are wrong, people are going to let you know. But only upvotes + silence...... means I might be right ;)

I suppose i have a different opinion of what "tight and percussive" means.. but this amp definitely has a more unique midrange bark for a highly saturated amp. pretty cool

Hey, I didnt take notice, but did you still have the low end cranked when you changed the speakers? I heard the difference definitely, (I listen with senheisers). I wonder if there is a speaker that will increase the low response or a boost that could do it for you. I thought the tones that you and John got were amazing.

Honestly: the amp has more than enough low end - we tried it against some of the chunkiest boys out there and it can easily hang with them 🙂

Über German technology. Brutal all on its own with no help from pedals. Not many amps out there can pull this off. Of course EVH stuff can do it, but its great to hear someone else mak9ng killer high gain stuff

Only question and this isn’t a criticism at all but if you had the cab in house at the time of filming, why didn’t you just record the whole demo with it?😅 after all, you’re a man who appreciates how important the speakers are to the overall sound so therefore the cab is equally as important as the head to be reviewed?
Still could’ve included a quick clip of the Mesa cab at the end for comparison.
He explained it in the video: all his amp demos are done with the same mic, same position at the same speaker to give everyone watching demos back to back a reference 😊
as mentioned, it was explained in the video why I used the mesa cab, as I use it in all my amp demos for fair back to back comparisons for the viewer
That’s fair enough and makes perfect sense from a direct comparison point of view🙂 as I say, not a criticism, just thought this one might have been slightly different due to knowing the head and the cab were both there I automatically assumed it would be to test out together mainly!
