Hopefully Donald can stay healthy and they'll have a few more live tours. 13 piece band as tight as a drum, yet they really swing. Seen them 19 times. You need to experience Steely Dan first hand.

You are mining more Steely gold! 😉
Your Gold Teeth a personal favorite, for it's sly sophistication, and smooth, funky, precise, bouncy groove.
Some observations: I hear tell that this is the last song that The Dan composed as a band. That means future Doobie Skunk Baxter is in there.
As I understand it, the song tells the tale of a grifter who has played her game too long. Now her tricks don't work anymore, and people are on to her machinations:
"I have seen your iron and your brass [clockwork]
Can't you see it shine behind the glass"
Cathy Berberian was a famed singer, and some songs even she couldn't sing: the grifter has taken it too far, people are on to her, and she can't pull of her scam.
Finally, 😁, "There ain't nothing in Chicago for a monkey woman to do." Is from Count Basie's "Goin' To Chicago Blues". Depending on who you as, a monkey woman is either overly sexually pleasing, or addicted to heroin---take your pick.
Hope that brought a smile to a face. Thanks for another great reaction, guys--for me, they are comfort food. 🍲. Peace!

One thing I can say about the Boomers; we did music! Great music. I've gone on to appreciate the music of others' generations of all sorts, love Pearl Jam, say. Hate auto-tune, ha! My Gen X kids listen to some pretty iffy stuff, too, but love where a lot of it has gone to. Music's the link- I watch kids and their parents on some reaction videos share the old school stuff, such a cool thing, a way to have commonality between generations.

"We've heard that riff before" - indeed you have, its almost identical to the groove from Josie (minor 7th guitar chord strummed nearly the same way). Nice catch!
FYI, it is *very* common to hear Afro-cuban rhythms mixed with Jazz; walk into any jazz club and there's a 50/50 chance it'll be some kind of Latin groove

This song calls to mind "Ginger" -- Sharon Stone's character in "Casino".
The vagaries of a strung-out, grifting ex-showgirl -- this whole album is laced with LA/Vegas-noir.
