Finally! Someone loves this track as much as me!
Never understood why this one doesn’t get any love.
Great reaction as always 😊👍🏼
I'm with you...the creativity of this tune is off the charts!
Or the album, do people really like Aja more than Countdown?
It's a fantastic song. always been my favorite track on this album!!
I've always considered it as one of my favorite Steely Dan's songs!
Same here. I always strained to hear the last notes.
My FAVORITE Steely Dan song!!! 💯😎
Mine too!
@@Raittway Great minds... 😎
same 🙏🙏
one of my fave songs from Steeley Dan,love this!!
This is actually one my favorite Dan songs.....extremely underrated.
This song takes on another note when you know what it's about. Such a dark song.
Man...I was 13 in 1970 and thought I was alone that this song is f*cking phenominal. The guitar noodling thru most of the song!? love this track Any Major Dude is another fav. The 70s were unrivaled in music diversity. SD raised the bar.
This is a severely underrated song! One of my Favorites by Steely Dan!
Thanks for a great start to the weekend. You can not go wrong with any Steely Dan. Have a great weekend my friends. Excellent reaction fellas. Appreciate you 🙏 ❤
I'm ready for my first cuppa coffee now
Great song 😮
Another banger from this album is Boston Rag. Also, the song "Pearl of the Quarter" had a cool country feel with slide guitar that you guys will love.
Voulez,voulez,voulez,vou!
Why isn't Pearl of The Quarter played to death on the radio? Or one of those songs everybody knows the words to? It's perfection.
Guitar tone on Boston Rag kills. Sounds like a dimed Deluxe, but who knows. So raw.
@@markburnham7512 Worth a look to hear live Skunk on Boston Rag from 1974. Awful recordings, blistering solos!
Really driven along by Walter's fantastic bass playing. This was a time when Steely Dan were really a "Band".
And let’s not fail to mention that otherworldly-great guitar waterfall from Dias 🔥
Hey dudes I was listening to all the Steely Dan from when I was 14 in 74 their early stuff nailed it .. Semi Naked women heaps of good dope partied all night throughout the 70s 80s and still love all there music.. None better best studio band ever
Regarding Steely Dan's jazz interests - there used to be an NPR (radio) program hosted by well known senior jazz pianist Marian McPartland, and there is an episode with Fagen and Becker as guests (still on RUclips). There are alternating segments of conversation about jazz with Fagen, and music, both S.Dan (with Becker and bass and drums) and jazz. Fagen plays some Duke Ellington and jams with McPartland. She had tons of great jazz pianists on her show.
Love your Streely Dan reactions. "Chain Lightning" should be played at some point. One of my favorite bands. Thanks for the entertainment...love watching your content ❤ #1
The 'Chain' only has to strike once to make one a believer.
And if you do react, I'll tell you what Chain Lighting is about. It's classic Steely: talking indirectly about some unknown event, but once you know, it makes perfect sense.
Best blues i've ever heard
This song is awesome! I really enjoy watching your reactions.
Steely Dan never recorded a "bad" song. They are a band anyone can listen to and enjoy. A great universal sound. Rock on.
One exception: Show Biz Kids
Another Steely Dan classic. Aren't they all? Smokin' cobalt cigarettes.
Airplay Beats - Kings Of The Reaction Videos - I enjoy how you paint a picture with your commentary that brings new insight to
the songs. Your hard work and knowledge are greatly appreciated.
My ALL TIME FAVORITE Steely Dan song ❤❤❤
Had to look way back 8 days since last Black Sabbaths end of 1st Album!!!
Love the cover and every song gold
Expensive chords.
Those chords are creamy and delicious.....
Reminds me of Jan Hammer's Don't You Know? off of his Melodies album! Would be cool if you listened to see if you thought so, too!! Chord progressions sound very close in some parts....but, this is faster tempo'ed.... LOVE THE DAN!!! (Love Jan Hammer Group, too!!) HUGS, YOU-GUYS - HAPPY FRIDAY!!! WAY to START IT OFF!! THANKS! ❤❤❤
I had that album, and could never leave that song until I'd heard it 2-3 times.
Just a great band no matter what they throw at you
This is my school year I'm never going back to my old school keep it real peace and love
They have used apocalyptic themes in other songs, too. In fact, one of the most upbeat songs they ever did was The Last Mall on their last album, Everything Must Go. Fagen gleefully sings about a family's last shopping trip before the world ends. Please do every song from Countdown to Ecstasy and hit some nuggets from their last two albums like Jack of Speed, Janie Runaway, Cousin Dupree, What a Shame About Me, Everything Must Go, Things I Miss the Most, Godwhacker, etc.
Seconded!
Thirded! (They are going to crap when they hear the new stuff!)
Some people dismiss the latter two albums, but Jack of Speed, Godwhacker, west of Hollywood are great. The albums are more jazz/blues than the first seven, but that’s their evolution.
Love this Band!
Dropped many a Tab to them back in the 70s!!
Always good, f*ck I've still got the memories!!!
So all good!!..
Wow! What sensational musicianship and wildly great lyrics with unbelievable harmonies. Love your reactions!
Each change brings you into a totally different sound landscape, it’s incredible how complete each different groove is
A lot of people find this to be their most prog-rock type track. It does have that vibe somewhat....one of their best.
My fave Steely "deep cut"!
This is one of the buried gems of Steely Dan. Jim Hodder's drumming on this is sublime and so are the various lines by Jeff Baxter and , I'm pretty sure it's Denny Dias on the git solo.
Fantastic
Timeless
Great track - a favourite.
Midnight Cruiser is one of my favs.
This made my day! One of the things I love about these kinds of reactions is that you’re able to spend some time with the individual songs and appreciate them apart from the rest of of the album. They are SO GOOD and I feel like they deserve some attention, y’know? On a side note, I always thought that if I had an all-girl band I’d name it No Marigolds as a little shout out to these lyrics. 🧡
No Marigolds!! Love It..... This is my favourite track on this album!
Why can I not find me a women that loves steely Dan
This album is SD's forgotten masterpiece...one pristine masterpiece after another on this album. Keep staying with it, " The Boston Rag " is especially tasty
I knew you guys would be crazy for this one! Imagine that this was written and produced at a time with Steely were still a touring band. They played this live! One of my favorites and a song that still sounds that it came out tomorrow.
Wow! Totally excellent! Steely Dan never disappoints and always amazes! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Loving all your Steely Dan reactions hope you do the later albums too 🤞 Two against Nature and Everything Must Go ❤xxxx
Linda música 🎼🤩
Best song on the album. Classic.
Married to this album 50 years now, and it wins every argument.
Top 5 Dan song.
OMG I LOVE Steely Dan. This is my fav song, but I never see anyone react to it. Thank you ❤
Exelent....
Great song, never heard it before.
You guys are right on, this is album is great and this song is one of their underappreciated gems. Becker is really killing it on the bass.
One of the best anti-nuclear protest songs ever written...so evocative, it puts you hunched over that ham radio, searching, right along with the character...chilling!
One of my favorite Bowie songs and by the way the dude CAN sing. For instance check out his vocals on SWEET THING/ CANDIDATE/SWEET THING(REPRISE) from his DIAMOND DOGS album and hear the emotional inflections from low moodiness arcing into a high pleading, but done so musically perfect.
For some reason, this song perfectly encapsulated what wanting to die feels like
Steely Dan's lyrics are HARD AS FUCK, man!!! They talk about NOTHING but dirty ass real life shit! 💯
When will you get to SD ‘s Two Against Nature? It’s a 2000 Grammy album!!!!!! Please start with Jack of Speed and West of Hollywood!!!!!!! You guys have done a superb job of reacting to their music…..None better!!!
Mis favoritos
Geniales como siempre
You're going to come across this again and again. Fagan and Becker were listening to late night FM when they were young and they got hit with Wes Montgomery and it so reflects in what they put out. Listen to that guitar light up the night!
You haven't even heard "The Boston Rag" or "Razor Boy" yet. You're in for it. Countdown, The Scam and Gaucho are my favorite Dan albums. Of course that was until Nature came out. There is nothing, nor will there ever be, anything so close to insanely filthy as "West of Hollywood"!
FAVORITE Steely song! Thanks guys, sooo good, they were delivering at such a high level during this period. Love that synth solo or whatever it is, SO cool...and Denny's guitar outtro is off the hook! I think Skunk is on this one too..both amazing!
Anytime you listen to SD, it's a good day
KING of the WORLD
AKA: END OF THE WORLD.... A song about the LA Area after a Nuclear War. "No Marigolds in the Promised Land... there is a hole in the ground where they used to grow...!
King of The World 🔥
That bass was goin crazzzy
Please don't miss Your Gold Teeth from this album. It's a really smart and cool song, about a female grifter who has worn out her welcome.
Great reaction as always--your SD reactions are favorites of mine since you started.
Oops, you already reacted to it. You rock!!!
THE BOSTON RAG is a must! This was a great video. In fact, I've watched your Steely reactions dozens of times!
This is my favorite Steely album! Count down to ecstacy.
I believe that is Dean Parks bluesy guitar climbing in at the end.
The best thing about airplay beats is you guys bring up the bands from the golden age of radio rock. Keep up the good work.
I just feel good when I hear Steely Dan. ❤
3:20 one of my fav parts of music ever
So funny, I was just looking for your reaction to this song this morning…I was shocked you guys had not heard it….and then 1 hour later I get notified…remember to like, subscribe and click than notification bell….don’t want to miss a reaction…Happy Friday
Reminds me of a 70’s game show outro.
Walter and Don were musical geniuses!if you have not done My Old School or Bad Sneakers then you must try reacting to these great ones!
We’ve done those
Very good
I love this album. I think you skipped over "The Boston Rag". Yes released 1972, The Dan's second album
Awesome! thanks! this is another one of their songs that just sems unplayable from a technical standpoint
💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Amo su contenido
Steely D. meets Mad Max.....I LOVE this tune! One of the most underrated tunes in the SD catalogue, IMHO. Totally evocative, you can picture the scene and play out the story in your mind.
And yes, although different from other SD tunes, the musicianship is just killer! guitar and drums! (I believe Skunk and Dias on the ax and Porcaro on drums) Fantastic Rxn, LA and Chi!
"I can't be no highway man".
Great reaction! In case you missed it, it's about life after a nuclear war -depressing lyrics set to a happy tune, a Steely Dan speciality. You guys need to listen to " The Boston Rag".
Don’t leave this album without checking out The Boston Rag! Also, Razor Boy is pure Dan genius!
I would suggest "Cousin Dupree" from their comback album "Two Against Nature".
Love the reaction! This is one of my favorites. The guitar work (Denny Dias) is great! "Pearl" of the Quarter" and "Razor Boy" are also great tracks on this album if you haven't reviewed them yet.
I bought the Citizen Steely Dan box set when it came out and I listened to it from beginning to end. 66 songs and I liked them all. That doesn't happen too often; a band with no bad songs? Steely Dan is really something special.
Steely Dan has always been the band musicians listen to. The best players and the best material.
Post-apocalypse, sci-fi theme, as Fagen reaches out for signs of humanity "on this old ham radio". Upbeat & jazzy, juxtaposed against a bleak hell-scape - vintage Steely Dan. The execution and musicianship is top-notch as usual, featuring Denny Dias on guitar. When I think about the subject matter, I imagine the repetitive synth as an air raid siren. One of my top 10 SD cuts.
I'm so glad you got to this song! I knew you two would appreciate the amazing musicianship on this song. Love watching you guys!
The whole album is fire. It was my first Dan album that I bought I think in 73. I immediately then went out and bought Can’t Buy a Thrill and have been hooked ever since.
In the past this track was not among my favorites, but it's grown on me. Maybe I've matured.
Not sure if it would generate a great audience for reactions, but 11 Tracks of Whack solo album by Walter Becker is a gem well worth listening to, if not on reacting to, at least on your own time. Completely different sound and Walter Becker doing all the vocals. A lot of it reflecting on his time living in Hawaii.
Me parece excelente
Another great one. Waiting patiently for The Boston Rag
Excelente 👏
OGs of funk, jazz, rock, and soul.
King Of The World and Aja are the two best Steely Dan songs.
You asked what else can we listen to? Two Against Nature Grammy Award winner of 2000. Start with Jack of Speed and then West of Hollywood. Simply Great!
We were rock kids who grew up listening to our parents jazz albums (if we were LUCKY) and Steely Dan just hit that sweet spot. My mom & sibs all huge fans from beginning to end and then Donald Fagen. RIP Walter Becker, and thanks for all the decades of exquisite music & joy you gave me...and my family & friends.🥰
Amazing song that came out 50 years ago!!
Another great SD reaction from the pros!
Jazz - yes, Fagen & Becker are both *huge* Jazz fans and they've always said that their aim was to combine their favorite elements from Jazz with Rock & R&B. This track in particular featured the incredible guitar playing of Denny Dias who studied with BeBop masters
Excellent start to the weekend, guy! Sordid, snarky lyrics on top! Now you know a bit about Dan fans…..loved the reaction, you guys are THE BEST ! Cheers!
