  • It's been exactly one year since I bought my S1 and over the year I've noticed a few annoying features. Here are the top 6.
    Enjoy!

I've had mine 8 years from new. Optioned super sport seats, bose, flat bottom wheel and panoramic roof. I can understand why most of this is optional as the cost of engineering the a1 into an s1 must have been costly, especially the work on the rear end with the quattro system. I now understand why the new a1 range doesn't have an s1. Mines running 320 bhp and love driving it. It pisses so many people off when you leave them behind. 😄

The S1 is a great little car, nothing comes close in terms of its performance/size/cost etc. I’ve moved to an M2 now and whilst that is an epic car, I do miss the S1, especially during the winter!

Oh by the way, nice to have s1 owner on here just be careful you don't end up like supercars of Yorkshire, keep it sensible and you will not end up with a pointless channel like his, love my S1 and it is good to see vids like yours,,

Seems like you don't like your S1 too much :D why not swapping it for S3/RS3? Lack of elbow rest is actually a deal breaker for me, so I totally feel you

Great vid nice that you have an honest review of the car. Would you recommend the s1 though or wait for a couple of years and get the facelift s1 once i can get a second hand one (buying new isnt for me im happy to finance but not pcp i want to own it in the end) ive got a decent deposit so i could carry on and get the facelift? which would you recommend to do? love the llittle hot hatches and cant justify the extra price of the s3!

Alex, you are young and inexperienced with lots (LOTS) to learn about cars & driving. The simple fact that you are not good at changing gears is not a reason to hate on the car. Put some decent time into practicing how to shift well, & shift quickly. This is not the fault of the S1 which has a very good little manual box.

Just been bought an S1 as my second car for when I have 1 year NCD in September, currently have an A1 1.2, driven the company car’s golf GTi mk7.5 several times so I’ve driven similar power, I’m still going to love this thing right? I luckily don’t have the issues of steering wheel and armrest as mine has it but just want to know the flaws of it

  • @jasonleon1976

I also believed the flat bottom wheel was a cost free option on the S models. But 300/400 pounds for flat bottom wheel? I’m sure when I added it on my order for SQ5 it was only 100 pounds. This was in January 2018. It should definitely be a cost free option on all S models. I know if you want the heated wheel, Audi do not have it available as flat bottom🤷‍♂️. Have to say after sitting in an Audi with virtual cockpit, analogue just looks dated now. I know some prefer analogue, each to their own I guess. I was a big fan of the S1 when it came out, I almost purchased one before the kids came along😂. Informative video👍

Have you ever driven an MX-5? Next car will likely be a toss up between the MX-5 RF and the 2019 S1. BTW, enjoying the straightforwardness of this channel. Keep it up!

I haven't driven one, however my parents have the new MX5 in the 2.0 config - I plan on making a video on this soon. 2019 S1 should have Stronic, that will be a tasty little car! Cheers for the feedback!

Would be great to see a comparison between your S1 and their MX-5. To my knowledge it's not a commonly compared pair although they target a similar audience in terms of price / practicality etc

Hi Alex, new to your channel, nice vid. I will soon be in the market for a hot hatch. Have an A3 TDi currently so used to Audi quality. Love the look of the S1 and have begun researching it. I’ve read different opinions on the ride quality. Some reviewers say it is very compliant and others say even in auto mode it is harsh. I totally accept a firmer ride comes part and parcel of any hot hatch but just wondered what your opinion is?
I’ve driven the budget side of the segment in the excellent Fiesta ST (Mark 7). Really impressed with it to drive but the build quality is not the greatest and the interior is very dated. That had a fair bit of negativity around the ride quality but I didn’t find it too bad at all. I’m thinking more of passengers because as the driver I’m unlikely to care.

    • @MunkeyBoyPlays
      @MunkeyBoyPlays 6 лет назад

Simon Taylor bit late. The parts used on fords these days are cheap imports from China. Quality and longevity isn't there (my mate works as an engineer for them).
My mate has a year old S1, the ride isn't that bad honestly. Wouldn't say enough to where it's literally undriveable.

I like your honest review but would like to comment on some of your points. First of all not all S Lines get the flat bottom steering wheel. This is part of the black edition trim. Also the A1 does have S Tronic transmissions which is also on the highest upgrade of trim levels.
I have a 16 plate S Line Black Edition A1 which have both of the above as standard.

Same here I do think you feel low aswell and getting in my girlfriends s line a3 is comfier by a mile but, the s1 is just hilarious, it's a beast man. Stop moaning about the bits mate and digging at Audi. If your not a fan buy a golf r and be done with.
