I’m a student of Okinawan Kempo and this is sooo different! I love it!!! It’s so fascinating to see these different kata preformed in such a unique way. I’m very impressed!

It was a fantastic experience taking Uechi-Ryu classes while growing up in the 80s as a young teen in three rivers, MI. Thank you for your video, and I do appreciate your diligent practice in this art!

Very helpful. My four years of Uechi-Ryu training a long time ago stay with me in muscle memory, to great benefit. Still manage to do Sanchin often.

There are a few things I don't understand what this lady is doing, especially when bobbing up and down with almost every move, but I admire her piercing mae geri (front kick). Looks so precise, as she could pass it through the smallest hole in one's defense.

This kinda looks like a mix of tiger crane style and karate.

Excellent stuff Wendi. I am a Wado practitioner but I have always had an admiration for the Uechi style. The first book on Karate I ever bought was George Matson book way back in the very early 70's I have a first edition. I didn't know anything about styles then as far as I knew I was learning Karate. Thanks again and keep well

You sound like something I would have written.. bought same book around 1970, I believe after I started with Kyokushin Kai around same time. I'm in B'ham Al and took 2hrs. of HPR credit in college. Did not know anything about it except I wanted to learn. I sincerely regret not being able to have an Uechi school here. Besides Kyokushin, there was Yoshukai and some school called Japan International who wore shoes when training. I was 22 and once one completed the 2hrs, they could audit the course and have 4hrs of class each week and become a member of Kyokushin, get rank, etc. $20 per quarter of class was great. I was hooked. I knew the couple of Kata in Hanshi Mattson's book were totally different and taught in a different order. Now I'm 75, had 4 lumbar surgeries, hip replacement, bad cervical discs, finger surgery and now both feet and legs are asleep and numb. Lost my balance, lost motor function and can't walk worth a 💩. I want to train again so bad. My body's a mess and hate living this way. Uechi is a very deadly school of Karate which is seen in Kata. The Pinans and others seem like nothing compared to Uechi and the bunkai.

@@marclerner3344 Excellent reply Marc what an interesting history you have. I have a friend Mick Gooch who is a Kyokushin man and holder of the world one finger pres up.
fabulous tough style of karate. I have many health issues as well in fact in July I'm just going for my second knee replacement. Doing the Wado style is much easier on the joints so I can still teach and train (if you can call it training) I'm 72 and the old adage that 'those that can do and those that can't teach' has just about caught up with me. Keep well and i hope your ailments don't keep you down.

@@monitor4728 I did Tai Chi about 22 yrs ago but the instructor's time changed and my body didn't like 0830. Now it doesn't like any time. I can't stand up and balance is gone. Legs numb and friggin asleep! I hate living life this, only 75. If I could try some Tai Chi moved with out falling I would.

Hello. My name is Chadd. I drive a truck for a living. Im not home very often. Im wanting to learn Uechi-ryu Karate. My problem is im not home enough to get started in a class. An im not sure if there is a class in Knoxville TN, or San Antonio Texas. I have family at both locations. I live out of my truck. Is there a book i could learn the katas from an then visit a dojo to help me fine tune what I learned. Thank you for your time.

      Hi Chadd,
George Mattson who brought Uechi Ryu to America in 1958 still teaches. He has an online course that you can do and he will instruct you. You can look him up at uechiryu.com.
