I was an absolute nervous wreck and performed awfully, so I can’t blame them at all. Not to mention my internet connection dropping out about 4 times during 30 minutes - it was really a recipe for disaster. So, I did get the interview, but messed up afterwards: no offer. Real bummer, I might give it another shot next year maybe not, but I’m very happy that I got the interview and trying to be happy that I even got a chance!

The fact RUclips recommend this just before I'm doing my engaa exam for engineering is brilliant, it's great to hear a more realistic insight into Cambridge.
As someone who got into King's Cambridge last year and then quit after the first year because it just wasn't my vibe, I've gotta say 'everyone at Cambridge is from London' is surprisingly what it felt like at times, but I guess that just reflects population density in the UK. I think I got past the interview and enjoyed it because I have a huge passion for my subject (ecology, which I had to do via Natural Sciences), but I had a lot more passion for my interests than I did for Cambridge as a place. Maybe I just missed the north, or maybe the Covid year put me off. Also, yeah, I went to interview as casual as my Mum would allow me to, so had hoodie and polo shirt with climbing trousers too. Also they do ask some weird questions, one of my interviewers just put a weirdly pigmented potato on the table and was like 'tell me about this', I did notice that they do like really niche interests though, and I attribute me getting in to my knowledge on bryophytes (mosses+), which is an unusual interest for anyone under 70. Also the bit where Francis talks over the bit about all the opportunities of stuff to do at Cambridge by just saying 'work' is absolutely how it was lol, unless you're doing one of those lazy subjects that don't even have Saturday lectures like I did. Also I got to walk all over the lawns because I was involved in recording species there lol, it's the biggest power move in Cambridge to walk on the grass, even the night climbers wouldn't dare.
@@maddysunter it was some unusual variety with a reddish tinge to its colour, so I started talking about anthocyanins and their use by plants and their chemistry, suggesting that it was a selectively bred variety much like the purple carrots that are sometimes advertised for their unusual colour.

The official statement is that all colleges are equally hard to get into. i find it hard to believe as I came across some great applications that were rejected by the famous colleges like Trinity before the interview itself(especially for STEM subjects).Do the famous colleges like Trinity use a "computer" system to weed out candidates? Do they really look at candidates holistically? Thanks. I hope you make a video on this.
Hi! I don't think the colleges are equal at all, i am including this in my next video actually! In terms of teaching differences I think they are negligible because teaching is managed by the subject departments rather than the colleges. But in terms of wider experiences as a student there are certainly differences. I have no idea how admissions works at each college but the university website does have data of how many people applied to a particular college for a particular subject, quite interesting data as some colleges have significantly more applications in certain subjects.

I went to Hertford College of Oxford in the summer of 2018. The college porter I met there wasn't friendly and kind like the porter lady in the video. I checked in during the early morning since I arrived in the UK at 6 am. When I arrived at the college door, I waited quite a long time just to get in and was shocked to know that the college hadn't yet prepared to receive summer school students.
Oh my I'm so sorry ! I guess it really depends of the college. I'm not familiar with Oxford but yeah the big three in Cam are not well known for their hospitality either... which is confusing because they are kinda paid to help us 🤔
Storytime about forgetting to confirm my Cambridge interview: as someone with ADHD and therefore I struggle with a lack of object permanence (if it's not in front of me I can forget about it - this includes people) I DID forget to confirm my interview. That was last year. I got pooled but ultimately rejected. THIS year when I reapplied I sent in the wrong UCAS code as well. Got an offer though!!!

The student is the buyer, and it should be a case of " caveat emptor ". IOW it's most important for individual students to decide whether or not they are being offered something they want, or are they being conned. The whole interview process is skewed in favour of the University so as to put students into deferential mode in the role of supplicant. The advice the college offers about clothing is particularly revealing, it's clearly a ruse and part of the intimidation process. I'm almost surprised that they didn't advise the candidate to appear with holes in his socks, or to come in wearing tattered old jeans.
To be fair, if you are somehow able to answer the questions they ask at the interview, your chances of success are pretty high. It doesn't necessarily mean if you're not familiar with the questions you don't stand a chance, it's just that for a better rate of success you are recommended to know as much as you are able to.

i used to go to a religious private boarding school and we were only allowed to walk on the pavements or else they’d make you cut the grass evenly with scissors or chop your hair off or make you stand with a bucket of water on your head for like 1hour💀

Lmao Cambridge was always one of my top choices but I got so fed up working on US college applications with zero guidance (I'm an Indian and I'm from someplace where nobody really goes abroad for undergrad) that I was like ah frick this guess I'll just apply to US colleges. There's definitely a significant difference generally speaking but if you compare top colleges there isn't much of a difference tbh. It's mostly the way of teaching that differs, afaik UK colleges are more theory-centric than US colleges which focus more on hands on experience and research.
@@rumanaizzath3712 if outstanding faculty is your major criterion, then top Indian colleges are just as great as US colleges. If you want to go to a top US college, you need to be prepared to utilise all your resources because research is a huge requirement here. Since everyone around you will be doing research as well, you'll fall behind if you don't.

You need to create a chart of which colleges offer which facilities and what you personally need and want. Then compare and analyse to figure out which college would suit you best.
@@rumanaizzath3712 that being said, the main difference between Indian colleges and US colleges is that Indian colleges focus a lot more on theory than US and even UK colleges, while having practically no research opportunities off the bat. US colleges on the other hand (especially top colleges) often have a slightly less demanding curriculum but make up for that with hands on research based study. The advantage here is that you'll have experience while you're still in college, giving you a higher chance of getting a better job right out of college. However, the one disadvantage of studying abroad is that unless you study at a top 10 or so college, you'll have to go through a lot of hoops for your master's if you want to return to India after your bachelor's.
@@rumanaizzath3712 nah don't worry you're not bothering me. I was in your shoes just last year. By utilising resources, I mean using every research, fellowship, extracurricular, internship etc opportunities available to you at the earliest. Have a plan but don't be afraid to make changes and deviate from it because every year there will be new and better opportunities. The reason I say this is because 90% students at top US colleges do research, internships, get fellowships and participate in various such programs. If you go to a top college but then don't do any of those things, that's bad form because that will mean you slacked off in college. Don't do that.
Ah didn't mean to scare ya! If you apply it's 1 in 12, if you don't it's 0 in 12, sooo might as well go for it! (unless you fancy a career change to Anglo Saxon Norse and Celtic)

Hey Hadi, don't be disheartened. There is always a better opportunity that fits you the best. I would suggest to just apply to cambridge, whats the worse gonna happen? At max they will say no or simply won't reply. At the end of the day, just give your best and try harder than you did yesterday. Sometimes, winning is subjective and loosing as well. So, don't perceive this as a loss.

@@rumanaizzath3712 that being said, the main difference between Indian colleges and US colleges is that Indian colleges focus a lot more on theory than US and even UK colleges, while having practically no research opportunities off the bat. US colleges on the other hand (especially top colleges) often have a slightly less demanding curriculum but make up for that with hands on research based study. The advantage here is that you'll have experience while you're still in college, giving you a higher chance of getting a better job right out of college. However, the one disadvantage of studying abroad is that unless you study at a top 10 or so college, you'll have to go through a lot of hoops for your master's if you want to return to India after your bachelor's.
@@rumanaizzath3712 nah don't worry you're not bothering me. I was in your shoes just last year. By utilising resources, I mean using every research, fellowship, extracurricular, internship etc opportunities available to you at the earliest. Have a plan but don't be afraid to make changes and deviate from it because every year there will be new and better opportunities. The reason I say this is because 90% students at top US colleges do research, internships, get fellowships and participate in various such programs. If you go to a top college but then don't do any of those things, that's bad form because that will mean you slacked off in college. Don't do that.

Hey Hadi, don't be disheartened. There is always a better opportunity that fits you the best. I would suggest to just apply to cambridge, whats the worse gonna happen? At max they will say no or simply won't reply. At the end of the day, just give your best and try harder than you did yesterday. Sometimes, winning is subjective and loosing as well. So, don't perceive this as a loss.
