  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Johanna Schuh emphasizes the need to pause for a moment and put the right questions, in this case the three questions of Naikan. Move the pressure from seeing the problems with others and the bad things they've done to you, to a self-reflection to explore one's inner self by focusing on the good things, feelings exchanged between you and them and accepting the troubles you caused them.

Johanna Schuh is founder and director of Insightvoice Naikan Center Vienna. Naikan means introspection, looking inside to explore one’s inner self. Johanna Schuh, born in 1968, lives in Vienna since 1988. Although she is a qualified social worker, her career took another path into the field of administration and office management on the one hand and into the field of personal development on the other hand. The insights out of her first Naikan retreat in 1993 touched her deeply. She then decided to practise and study the Naikan method. Since 2000 she works as a Naikan practitioner, guiding Naikan retreats and is also a coach and speaker. She is co-founder of „Verband für klassisches Naikan“. Her latest book in German “Naikan - Die Welt der Innenschau” will be published in summer 2014.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

How do you do it if you are victims of abuse since little? I know some Japanese prisons also use Naikan for inmates but don't it it works.

***** Naikan would have to be part of a comprehensive, multi-modality approach to healing which would include recognition/awareness of how one has developed psychological & behavioural defenses to childhood trauma, optimal nutrition for physical & brain health to be able to benefit from "therapy" by increasing sense of deservability etc?
