NEW DEXCOM G6 PROBLEM!

- We've had 4 sensors fail IN A ROW! Half the time, our Dexcom doesn't show any number at all and just says Sensor Error. I called the company and they clearly changed their sensors. I think it's a liability issue. Regardless, it doesn't work anymore and we are very frustrated. Is it working for you? Let me know in the comments below.

I don't have anyone close that has Type 1. But I have watched every video of Henry's journey. Thank you for educating me of the struggles families go through with Type 1. ❤
Thanks for posting this. I rarely have a Dexcom sensor that lasts the full 10 days. Usually on the 7th or 8th day I start getting sensor errors, works for a while, then another error, then finally just fails. I thought it was just me. Sorry so many others are having the same problem. Sure hope the G7 is better.
Amy, I have a simple kudos to you for being such a great resource for parents new to diabetes. You are so good at sharing your information. I just now have had my 4th sensor be off by 60 points. So I am calibrating it and then I shall check it again. Also, if ever you get someone you cannot understand, I simply hang up and call back. I do this little trick with all Call centers I need to call. Also, one CSR told me that it is legal to ask them where they are located and if not in the USA ask to be transferred. I had a guy who kept telling me he was in the USA and I kept asking him, what city? He kept saying USA. I said, I don’t think so, care to try again? Then he said Mexico City! LOL, I kid you not. So I told I had yet to be informed that Mexico City was part of the USA 🇺🇸 and hung up and called back and DID get someone I could understand and who was in the USA, San Diego in fact. So best of luck with your sensors. I left another company due to their CGM being off by 50-60 points often times. After 4 trips and ending up in the ICU, as I am extremely brittle the ER doctor simply asked me to stop using it. Little did he know there if a five year warranty that I am doing my best to get out of, so I can try the Tandem T-Slim x2 IQ, yet I have concerns I just may need to keep up with my Multiple Injections due to my complications. Time shall tell. But keep up the great work!!
I’m 75 yrs old and developed diabetes 2 years ago.
Started with injecting types of insulin using syringes, went to using insulin pens and finally the Tandem slim2/ Dexcom 6 system.
Pump system Is much better than injections and manual readings, when it’s working!
Unfortunately the cgm continues to fail more often than it is reasonable to expect.
Yes, they send me a replacement when I call but more often than not i I just change out the sensor with a spare.
After all the calls and complaints by customers, you’d think the problem would be corrected.
Wondering if they are waiting for FDA to approve Dexcom 7 in the States. Good luck everyone, you’re not alone!
Thankyou very much for the information. I have been having trouble with my DexcomG6. I am NEW with this but they don't make it easy to understand. Thanks again.
I’m so glad I watched this video. I just recently started having the same issue. Happens every single night now and I had almost never had any sensor errors before. Even weirder is the sensor never fails, just ends up looping back into sensor error over and over again. And it is ONLY at night. Runs perfectly throughout the day.
Frustrating. Night is the one time you want it to work.
Mine is integrated with T: slim so dexcom is not handling my issues anymore, I do have to call tandem every other week with the same signal problem, this is getting out of control
What makes these fail is that stupid software they put into them to ensure you can ONLY use them for 10 days. It's corporate greed. The G5 you could reset over and over and get 3 - 4 weeks out of them when they were only rated for 7 days. Dexcom wasn't a fan of that because people bought less of them and kept re-using, so on the G6 they put in some type of scar tissue recognisation at the pin so after 10 days, with that build up on the pin it will NOT restart. Except - everyone's body scars over differently and the sensor is sensitive. So these can shut down in as little as 48 hours as it recognises a bit of scar tissue on the pin, thinks it's over 10 days and shuts itself down. If they simply took that system away - NONE of these would fail, but that would mean people could restart them for a good month, and save lots of money buying them. Which they do not want. It's a very scummy thing to do.
@@dons1932 Was thinking of getting one myself but after listening to your take and with the whole pandemic circus I've lost all faith in the health industry. Always knew diabetes was a gold mine for many in the health industry. But they just take it to another level as time goes on. I'll see if a hack is possible.
@@CmdrColstel There were multiple G6 hacks in the beginning to go around this, but that Dexcom has already overcome. That's why it's so sensitive now and the failure rate is so high. Dexcom's intervention, nothing else.
My dad is on his 15th replacement sensor. Yes. 15. We can't remember the last time he had one last 10 days. Then you have to go through the hassle of ringing them, lodging the claim, and having a replacement sent out. They do send them, but it's just a hassle. They're spending more in the long run than if they just removed the stupid software, but at volume from the supplier it's still profit I guess for them so they keep sending them, failure after failure. Without fixing the system that they well know is broken, due to their intervention into how the system functions.
This is such a timely video, Amy. My transmitter failed last night, and I’ve only had it for six weeks. So frustrating! I tried the Freedstyle Libre System before the Dexcom, and the readings were so inaccurate for me that it was useless. Thanks for another great video!
Thanks for sharing, good to know!
I told my doctor on 12.16.2020 that I can't use the Freestyle Libre any longer. So many failed sensors. So many inaccurate readings. I'm so frustrated with technology. I prick my fingers more now. I'm thinking of trying the Dexcom since the sensor can go any place on the body where there is fat. Type I for 40 years. Any thoughts on Dexcom sensors?
@@mrs.bankston5440 I’ve had really good luck with the Dexcom G6. I’ve had it for several months and I’m happy with it. Good luck. I’ve had T1D for 30 years.
@@abbyeastland Thanks. I'm gonna try it out.
When i had the Libre, i back checked it with my sticks..it was so far off that i considered it dangerous. The dexcon has been wildly accurate even w/o syncing it to my sticks..
Ugh that sounds so frustrating! I’m not a diabetic, so I can’t even begin to imagine what that must be like! Let’s hope you guys figure out the problem soon ❤️
Diabetes is the shits.
Thank you so much for posting this. I’ve gone back and forth with Dexcom and Tandem (I wear a Tslim) about how to get the sensors to last longer but nothing is helping. NO ONE has ever mentioned that they changed the sensors like you discussed in the video. I have to replace sensors every four to five days. Using Control-IQ is a nightmare when the sensors have such big problems.
I love my Libre ❤️ Freestyle just came out with the libre 2 and it has alarms for hi/los and gives continuous readings. No iPhone app for it yet so you have to keep the sensor reader within 10 ft. I’m switching from the original to the Libre 2 in November, I hope it’s essentially the same!
I’ve had to replace a bunch of dexcom sensors lately too. Mine have mostly been failing at insertion, and this too has never been a problem before. I’m really excited for the Libre 3 to come out in the US! It should be out sometime in the next 12 months. There is no more scanning with the new libre, transmits BG numbers just like the dexcom, and it is TINY compared to the old libre. It looks like it will be WAY better then the dexcom.
I agree the people at Dexcom have excellent customer service I was having trouble when I first got the Dexcom I wouldn't fully insert the transmitter into the sensor they would always send me another replacement.
Agree with you Lady. Also the transmitter runs out of juice before the ninth sensor. Still way more accurate than the libre
Late to post, but yes, same issue. getting sent another replacement sensor today. 2nd replacement in 3 weeks.
*Transmitter was on/near the end of the 90-day life --> i was told the 90-day count dictates where a transmitter is valid, and not the "3-weeks," "2-week," "last session" notice from the phone. However, Dexcom replace both sensor that failed even though i was right before or past the 90-day count for the transmitter.
*I have also had conversations with Tech Service with a US Southern accent, and also conversations with Tech Service with other accents (I mean, we all have an accent, lol). But I think I might just be used to hearing certain accents because I have not had any communication problems with the Tech Service (as an interesting note, I talked to Tech Service with a UK accent for Omnipod once)
*Adhesive has not caused irritation too terrible, but noticeably different than older sensors. I had a really bad reaction to the Libre after they changed their adhesive (not confirmed) and so haven't been back to the Libre since. Libre 3 looking super interesting, but not if the Dexcom G7 comes out in the near future. :)
The first year I had 1 failure with the transmitter and or the sensor since then not a single sensor or transmitter last more than 18 hours! Tired of calling for support or replacement! I use both the Android and the Dexcom receiver both fail led each and every time!
Thank you for sharing this. I have been on Dexcom for a while now without any issues, but then I dropped way too much money on my tandem x2 pump...and suddenly my dexcom is failing after 3-4 days. I'm on sensor number 5 and transmitter number 3 and I'm so afraid to try again because...if it doesn't work I don't know what I'm gonna do. I've spent so much money to get my sugars back in check and so far with this tech they've been worse than ever before. It is SO frustrating!!
I’ve been watching you guys for so long! We love the libre! Try out the free style libre 2. The 2 has alarms now and might be worth a try. No transmitter, 1 hr startup, 14 day wear time and readings every minute! You may have to fight endo cause they’re not in bed with abbott yet. Its not near as expensive the dexcom too. Good luck!
The Libre was crap for me. Used it 3 years--I like to swim and it Eff'd up every time.
I've been having this problem with mine too. And it's very frustrating bc I've used the free life CGM when I would be hospitalized due to me also having CF, and the free life always seemed to work perfectly and stay on. I just recently got a dexcom one year ago along with the tandem pump. Needles to say I dis like when I have to keep replacing the sensor after like 3 or 4 days and also thank you for explaining the compression lows. I never knew that about the Dexcom so that make a lot more sense of why I keep getting them at night.
If major accuracy issues keep appearing and calibrations don't work I suggest to install a new sensor in " no code " mode - this will switch the automatic measuring algorithm , to a calibration dependent one and will probably fix the issue for some people .
That is so frustrating! I hope they get to the bottom of it. It will be interesting to see if others are having this issue as well.
Definitely experiencing the same issue with a shorter usable time period. This was once so reliable, worked out, swam, ran and biked now I can't make it a 24 hours.
My son has the dexcom we been using for a year now. We have alot of issues with bleeding and now alot of technical issues. Im very frustrated. I think i call dexcom maybe one or twice a week for some kind of issue.
omg! we are having so many problems with the Dexcom in the last month or so and transmitter. So frustrating
Once we got a new transmitter, our problems went away.
I started using the Dexcom 6 in Dec 2019. It was spot-on excellent. Then, about Feb or March of 2021, I began to have wild variations(upon application) between the Dexcom reading and my finger stick - for example, I would get a LOW alarm for a reading of 63, when my finger stick said 203 (I KNOW the 203 was accurate because I ate cookies). In addition, A couple of times there was a visible amount of blood which seeped from the site. One time I think the filament failed to puncture the skin since it was flattened horizontally when I removed it. I had sensors fail (sensor expired) immediately on application, with directions to apply a new sensor. This has happened at least a half dozen or more times. The Dexcom rep said they are aware of the problem and hopefully the new Dexcom 7 would be better. Holy crap. I thought I had found the Holy Grail of glucose monitoring, but apparently not.
I am a type two diabetic and just switched to the Dexcom G6 system in mid-July 2020. I think I would like it except for two things: first, the issue you mentioned with sensors or transmitters failing and second, for the difficulty I still have removing the transmitter.
You are correct when you say the help center people are very nice but hard to understand! When I mentioned it to my doctor that issues with sensors or transmitter is failing, she said a lot of her patients were having the same problem. I think it’s a quality control issue on the Dexcom G6 manufacturing end. I do have to say that in the last month or so I have not experienced any sensor or transmitter failure. That said, I am still having problems removing the transmitter. So any videos that will help me with this, please give me direction to them!! TIA 🎄
Yup! thats all I can say. Finger sticks are the best solution. You can run both the Libre and the dexcom. I do that now. Be well Henry prayers are with you! Thanks
Yes!!! We had these same issues, our sons was failing every couple days! We did find a new place that we put it on his body, we put it just a teensy bit on the inside of his thigh bone, not too much that it touches or rubs his other leg but just enough that it isn’t on the bone. Before this he was failing his dexcoms just about every night. This has helped... we still only get about 8 days (which is what a lot of people are getting that I’ve talked to) but this spot has helped out a lot. Maybe try it, maybe it could help? We used Dexcom G4 forever, no issues, G6 almost made us go crazy! My daughter also uses Dexcom and has had zero issues with G6, so it’s very weird. Good luck! God Bless!
I have been using the Dexcom G6 since March 2021. It sucks!! I hate it. The adhesive leaves me with rashes and adhesive burns. They burn and itch at the same time. The sensors don’t always work. In one 3 months supply, there were maybe 4 sensors that didn’t work or stopped working but I gave up calling Dexcom. The reading from the Dexcom G6 are very, very inaccurate. I have to be honest, it is so much easier to just test my blood sugar 6-8 times a day. Even with the Dexcom, because they are so inaccurate, I am testing 4-5 times anyways. One day the sensor has my blood as 61 and going down. I tested and I am 110 and probably going up. Another time it had my blood at 270 and I tested and I was 180. Not great but better then 270!! It is lousy. I hope you get your situation with Dexcom fixed. I am seriously leaning to going back to just testing my blood.
Hang in there Amy. I’ve a diabetic since the age of 2 as well. I am now 55. I started when test tubes were used to test blood sugar and would have to go to the hospital. Out of curiosity, is he around any Bluetooth devices? Mine stops until I move into a different position or move my pump.
I agree when I have other blue tooth things attach to my phone it does this
I have used the Medtronics system eR for 12 years but their cost as gotten out of control! Now I am on the Omni pod and Dexcom and the first sensor lasted 1 week and second I can get it to even get through warm up. Poor QC and yeah you give me a new one but we are putting our live in this things hands
Such a pain!!!! Two weeks ago, I actually had to have them replace our TRANSMITTER! Ugh. We pay so much money and you just want it to work for how long it's suppose to work. We rarely ever get 10 days out of the sensors.
My son has the Dexcom G6 and honestly we have had excellent experiences with it. Keep in mind that it’s a medical tech device and sometimes these things can happen. Where is the location for Henry’s device? You may want to try alternative areas. We found it most affective above the buttocks just below the waist and have wonderful results. So weird that your having these issues and hope you get it corrected. I know it’s frustrating but there’s nothing like having these life altering devices that give a young person some sort of normalcy. For Me, I have to say I’m so thankful I don’t have to prick my 6yr old fingers and with the Omnipod, shots have been the things of the past. The data Dexcom provides gives doctors the info to make adjustments accurately and quickly. I hope Henry’s doing ok and I’m sure you’ll get it all figured out. The accuracy of the Dexcom and its features is worth hanging in there. Best wishes.
We've been using the Dexcom for going on 6 years. This is a new issue. Due to all the sensors failing we had to put a new transmitter on today..so we will now be short and have to go without after this one until insurance lets us buy another one. Hoping it was a transmitter issue. We've tried every possible new location to put it..we pushed water etc etc. I did say how thankful I was for it and that it was worth it. I just posted this to see if other people were having the same new issue. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful.
@@dreamflight6000
Lol! I never meant to offend you at all. I actually have to thank you, Because of your videos I learned a lot when I knew very little. One I remember from long ago is Henry’s diabetes bag. We now have like 5, all in a different colors. I know there are newbies out there and I don’t want them to think that the Dexcom is some inferior product they should shy away from. I’m sorry your having a bad run of sensors and I do wish you all the best. This whole diabetes thing just plain sucks. My son is turning 7 in a couple months and we are almost 3 years in and he asked me.... “Will this diabetes will ever go away”? It hurts me to tell him no but that’s the reality. He has to learn how to manage and take care of himself. I hope everyone of those sensors are being replaced by Dexcom.
Again, best wishes to you all.
They are in the Philippines. Im 62. Been using G6 for years have not had this issue. Your son is young, it's it possible this is related to the hormonal spikes (testosterone) that he is having? Any hormone change effects all other hormones
Yep im having the exact issues with my dexcom. Its very frustrating.
yep gotya same here. having issues alot lately. lybre i had a lot of ups and lows in it super inaccurate, since i switched to dexcom it is so much more accurate then the libre lol. take care and dont give up!
Dexcom has told me repeatedly that this isn't a sensor problem, it's a transmitter problem. I haven't used a transmitter until the battery went dead in a year. Usually it lasts a sensor or two and then can't find a signal. It's really annoying.
My dexcom did great till the end of the year. Yes sensor going out. It is frustration. And no back ups it was find this year now its crazy . They replace them but again not working. Nothing to check my sugars. Whats going on?
My G6 did this for the first time on day 7. The display graph looked just like this. Dexcom actually sent me to Tandem. They are replacing the G6 as well as the transmitter. First they walked me through rebooting my pump. I have no “back up” sensor like that would ever happen with insurance but now I am wondering if the software has not keeping up with the Dexcom. Also, I never heard of a compression low. I will do some research on it. Thank you for your video insights.
I think it is absolutely a hardware issue DONE ON PURPOSE, so that we’ll all be “excited” to PURCHASE the new model...
@US ARMY VET 11B 96-14 G7 to be released in 2021-smaller, more accurate, reliable,...
We would still be on the g4 if Henry didn't jump in the lake with it. 😄
Well, smaller, more reliable...???
I’ll take it😂. But I don’t appreciate this hassle!
any updates? mine lasted only 5 days after finally getting approved by insurance to have one. SO FRUSTRATING! This is my first official dexcom TX, though I got to use a sample from the dr's office months ago. That sample synced and worked perfectly with my phone, only months later to be told they are no longer compatible. Ugh!
I have the same issue right now. Who do we call?
So glad I watched this. I just got my G6 I was using G5. I too am on my 4th sensor. I can’t even get out of the warmup time. It starts and fails after about 30 minutes. I have called 4 s and sent 2 emails. No explanation or possible cause they just send a new sensor. I have deleted and reinstalled the app, removed and restarted the transmitter. I am trying to get this working as I am going to start using an insulin pump. Very frustrating......
I just started using the Dexcon G6. I use it with an iPhone 11 iOS 14.4.2 (Dexcom app software number SW11677 revision 1.8.1). My problem has been the Bluetooth signal keeps disconnecting even when I have the phone within a few feet of the sensor and nothing obstructing the direct line of sight between the sensor and the phone. I have to turn off the Bluetooth and then turn it on again in a few seconds. Then it takes up to 5 minutes for the signal to connect and for me to see a reading on my phone. This happen between 5-10 times a day. The Dexcon app does warn that with my iPhone that they are still in like “beta” testing. If I got a Dexcon Receiver would that help? My insurance will pay for a receiver, but I don’t want to carry it everywhere I go. I would like to just have the receiver at home and use my iPhone when I leave the house. Is this possible?
I have to to do a replacement almost every other time because of inaccurate readings and such.
I was also using Dexcom but found it very expensive so switched to Libre sensor and using Libre sensor with Nightrider Blucon. The benefit of this combination is it has all the same features of Dexcom at one third cost only
The thead is a little old but did you solve the problem? Have you replaced the transmitter since this happened and did that make a difference? If a transmitter is weak or has contact issues with the sensor it will cause those lapses in readings. I am electrical engineer and have had Dexcom CGMs just after they first came out in 2008 and have seen it all! I can't wait for the next generation Dexcom G7 and Libre 3 (now continuous readings with high/low alerts like Dexcom) with ultra-small, self contained, disposable sensors! No more separate transmitters to deal with and 14 day or more with restart, sensor operation!
Yes!! New transmitter solved all the issues!!! Thank you!
We just got diagnosed and this is happened to my son it’s been scary . It’s scary enough. It’s a year later it shows so am I alone ? Because he has so many breaks . Also can we use the receiver plus phone ?
I just started using them. I have used 5 and 4 have not worked during the startup
Yes, I’ve been having this exact same problem today. I inserted a new sensor today with a new transmitter. And when it does come on The numbers have also been out of wack. When I try to calibrate the numbers are still off. Plan to call Dexcom tomorrow if it continues.
I'm having the same issues and Dexcom will not replace the sensors! Just got the second one now not working with the receiver with a new Transmitter I just got, I hope this will get replaced at the price of it but more importantly, I need it to work I'm single and live alone! 999 are of no use after I'm in a coma which I have been a few times just pure I'm still here to write this but I'm again in a dangerous position with this device failing on me. I cannot use the Freestyle Libre at all its false readings and infects me seriously every time I say or try to have to explain to a NHS they keep saying they know nothing about any of it yet I have been given it then it is taken away from me this in UK! I do not really want to also have to say 111 service is also of no use to me at all and it's just a waste of a phone call for 30 mins to an hour. Thanks for the video nice for you to speak up as Dexcom need to get their act together on fixing their firmware as of the change it's been useless on failures!
I'm having the same issue with my mom dexcom. It's frustrating and tiring. Are you still using it? if not, what are you using now?
Our issue finally resolved when we put on a new transmitter.
Thank you for your informative uploads. What are your thoughts on freestyle libre ? I always liked that company better but my current insurance only approved me for dexcom for some reason.
@@octavius8562 oh damn, i see. How long have you been using this device and what made you chose this one? Was it due to it being more affordable ?
Maybe Try to get memory foam mattresses to avoid compression lows or highs that could lead to malfunction
I was told by my doctor that the freestyle Libre is mainly for people 18 years of age and up. But you can scan it with your phone instead of using the device. I am sorry you are having so much trouble.
I too have had intermittent transmitter gaps. I think it is because iOS 14.x is not supported by Dexcom. I had no signal repeatedly over night so I turned off the health/sleep functionality that was a new feature and I get far less interruptions.
Started Dexcom g6 in September, in 5 months only had one sensor replaced because it didn’t make 10 days. I’m a new user.
Im having issues with the new adhesive formula. Looks like they changed more than just the adhesive formula
I’ve been having this issue recently. I did get some extra info when I was talking to a support tech at Dexcom. They told me acetaminophen can affect readings. But the most helpful is that the iOS updates aren’t always compatible with the Dexcom. They are working on the updates to make them compatible but when we update our phones Dexcom may not be ready for the newest update and this can cause sensor reading issues. I was two updates ahead of Dexcom and am thinking that is my current issue. Either way, you can check to see online what update they are compatible with by doing a “internet search for Dexcom iOS compatibility” is was told or you can call to ask. Maybe this will help? By the way, before I switched to Dexcom is was using the freestyle Libre. It was horrible, it always failed on me, seemed that 30%-40% of the time the sensor failed, and yes always having to remember to check it with your cellphone for readings is a problem because it doesn’t notify you on its own and if you don’t think about it for 4-5 hours a big change could’ve happened or you may be out somewhere and all of a sudden feel terrible and think to check it only to find you’re hypoglycemic and you had no idea it was coming on. Not great for type 1s at all! Plus no alerts if you drop low in your sleep. My libres seemed to always get knocked out, Dexcom has a much better hold by far to your skin, plus I developed severe skin sensitivity to their adhesive after about 6 months. Perfect dark red blister circles under the patch I found after removing it due to itching. They use a “pine resin” that if you do a search on libre reactions- lots of people are having problems with! Libre is better then finger sticks but far inferior to Dexcom. Stick with Dexcom! It’s better in those ways at least :)
My readings are waaaay off with Dexcom, about 6 points compared to blood measurement (in Mml). Therefor it’s basically useless.
I use Freestyle Libre, which has its very own downsides but is way more accurate.
My son's dexcom has stopped working. What should i do?
I'm having signal loss alert problems. Just put in a new sensor and the warmup began, then BAM "SIGNAL LOSS ALERT" they've replaced a sensor already. Don't feel like calling back.
Hello, same issues here, in Czech republic, occurred last month or so. 5 sensors in row, the 4th day sensor errors, 5th-6th day sensor failed. Never have those issues, average usage time was 18 days. Did app reinstall, phone change, tried different sites, transmitter change for new one, nothing really helped.
My pocket didn't allow me to continue with Dexcom. I tried it once and because of the costing I have to switch to the Libre sensor. I'm getting all the dexcom feature with Blucon Nightrider on top of my sensor and cost is merely 1/3rd of dexcom.
I had the same problem...I had seven sensors fail on me one after the other and not coming out of the sensor gun... had problems of it sticking, not working and ultimately had to move over back to the freestyle libre 2 as I had to depend on something that I could use more frequently...hopefully the new G-7 will work better and I may go back to it depending on reviews
Ours started working again once we got a new transmitter. But I feel you... It's tough.
The Freestyle Libre 2 was giving me false low readings (more than 20 points). The Dexcom G6 gives me false high readings (20 to 50 or more points). I am pretty much done with CGMs. I am a Type 2.
I have been having my Dexcom 6 fail in 7 days the last three times. Never had a problem before. In fact for awhile I was restarting just to see if I could. They always replace but it is frustrating. Seems to mostly happen before bed. Last night said 63 with no arrow. Finger stick said 145. High for me but thought I was treating lows. So bolused and turned off phone and went to bed.
I have found a way to recover from the problem you are showing in this video. I massage the flesh where the sensor wire goes in and the readings recover.
Use thumb and fore finger on either side of the cradle and pinch the flesh between them light to medium hard and then rub side to side along the plane parallel to the sensor cradle for 5 to 10 seconds and then rub perpendicular to the cradle plane 5 to 10 seconds. The readings recover in 10 to 20 minutes, sometimes even sooner.
I can often feel what feels like an embedded, very thin pencil like area in the flesh that I think is swelling around the sensor wire. The wire is a foreign body and would cause swelling. I concentrate the massage on this pencil like area. It is thinner than a pencil and somewhat less than an inch in length.
None of this hurts. Massage more lightly if it is hurting.
Be careful not to pull the cradle off. Your fingers will be on the mounting fabric stuck to the skin, flesh pressed between the fabric on each side. The wire goes in at an angle towards the front of the cradle.
The rubbing motion is the same as just rubbing the tips of thumb and forefinger back and forth together when one says "give me a little more money".
I imagine the massage is moving fluid buildup away from the sensor wire so it can again properly contact the internal flesh.
I'm having the same issue my dexcom g6 is working but the arrow isn't turning around or turning down on dexcom g6 I'm getting really irritated with this dang machine 😑
A few months ago, we had the same issue for our daughter... a few sensors went bad in a row. Dexcom will send you the new sensor but wouldn't tell you what is wrong. Anyways we tried applying Skin TAC on top of sensor's sticky part to make it stickier and then applying it. We are not sure if that fixed the issue or what but we have not faced the issue again since then.
It was our transmitter. Once we got a new one, we've not had this issue again.
the reason it stops is he moves more than 20 feet away from the receiver
No it's around his waist in a belt but we did end up figuring it out. A new transmitter solved all the problems. They seem to get bad towards the end.
@@dreamflight6000 im sorry mine always does that if I'm 20 feet away
I have the same problem, but it's usually towards the end, so on the 9th day.
I have another question though.
I'm still new with using Dexcom 6 and I was wondering if I can start a new sensor before the previous one expires?
I had to rip mine off today ( 4th day), because it became so irritating and itchy, couldn't handle it. The reason for it was because the needle bented while inside my skin and I guess that made it so itchy. I had it on my stomach as they always suggest.
So I had to take it out, but I don't know If I can insert and start a new one and will it work?
Yes! You can.
But call it in and get a few replacement
@@dreamflight6000 I will. Thank you!
I think it's about where the sensor is attached and the adhesive tape of the sensor. after bathing, the adhesive tape becomes weak or while sleeping. another issue is that the sensor reports an error, rather than showing a sudden increase or decrease in blood sugar. I suggest you relocate the sensor, like an arm or a belly. attach extra protection tape to the sensor. and finally, check your sugar levels again and avoid things that will create a sudden rise or fall.
Yeah.. We've tried the legs, arms and upper butt. We are thinking the transmitter battery is going bad. We are hoping that'll fix our issues. 🤞
You can chek battery optional test voltage should be over 0.195v
have you thought about trying a new type of senser? is there other ones besides the dexcom 6 he can use for a little while?
I'm the future if there's one similar, got sure we'd love to try it. The libre is getting closer all the time.
I'm so sorry Amy. What a pain!
It's caused our transmitter to stop early because of all the fails. Thank goodness we lucked out and have one on hand but pretty soon, we will end up being with a transmitter for a bit. I only tell you guys this.. Because Jacob will totally get it.
@@dreamflight6000 Jacob hasn't used his Dexcom in awhile because of the skin irritation he was experiencing.
That's too bad. I've heard of people reacting to their new adhesive. 😕
I've only used Dexcom G6 for about 1.5 months. I've had many instances like the one you shared with the sensors failing or varying as much as 70 off real glucose values. Most recently I experienced transmitter failure. As you know, the transmitter should last 90 days. I've reported the former problem with the FDA regarding complaints about medical devices. I encourage everybody who has been experiencing these issues with the Dexcom G6 to do the same. Go to www.fda.gov/medical-devices/medical-device-safety/medical-device-reporting-mdr-how-report-medical-device-problems and fill out the online form. Regarding the transmitter failure, Dexcom tech support said they would FedEx overnight me a replacement transmitter. The failure occurred early in the morning last Saturday. (By the way, the transmitter functioned for only 1.5 months.) My receiver woke me up with the alert. Yesterday (Wednesday) I received two FedEx packages from Dexcom, neither of which included a transmitter. Both included one sensor and a return kit. Yesterday, I spoke with Dexcom Tech support twice and a customer service representative and none of them could explain why I did not receive the transmitter or why I received two return kits and sensors. The message they were pushing was that the package containing the transmitter is probably being delayed due to weather conditions. It appears that Dexcom is covering up the problems with the G6 system by sending replacement sensors and transmitters (hopefully) to appease the public so that regulatory bodies like the FDA are less likely to be informed of the problems being experienced by so many of us. Thank you for sharing the problems you've experienced with the G6.
I have problems with the transmitter, not the sensor. Word is G7 development is accellerated, because of the flaws in G6. Dont know how reliable this info is. Hope they put a bigger battery in the G7 ..
Mine stopped yesterday at 3.....period, never to return!
The other thing to do is restart & reset the connection for your phone. See if that helps
Yes, so frustrating!!!
I seriously doubt that Dexcom has designed the sensor to fail rather than read incorrectly.
It may be because he is adolescent now. His skin is oilier and these sensors seem to be very sensitive to oil contamination, as are his manual bG test strips. My son is about 20 now and has had these same problems until recently, when they just magically tapered off quickly.
Compression and showers often seem to lead to strange readings that resolve about a half hour later. Also, Bluetooth seems to have a hard time communicating through the body, so try positioning the receiver accordingly.
Good luck! :-)
That's just what the employee told me on the phone. 🤷♀️
I am having same problem so am switching to Libre 2 14 day sensor in February. It now alerts highs and lows.
I don’t have sensor problems and I restart them when I am low in supplies. My graph looks like that when transmitter battery is low.
quick question, does this ever happen with you guys.
after inserting a new sensor, and it finally warmed up. it says you’re urgent low for hours on end, despite your blood sugar is 100+. if this has happened, do you have any tips?
Yes!!!! It's the worst and especially at night. No advice but it isn't fun.
@@dreamflight6000 omg !!!! yes , its so annoying at night when you’re trying to sleep, but it keeps going off. thanks for the reply!
It has happened to us also-I always say the first few hours may be wonky, but yes, it is frustrating. And we replace sensors usually about 9pm so night time it is! No tips -just patience to do a fingerstick and check so you don’t treat for low when it’s not! And usually by morning it’s okay. Then when we get in the last day or 2 sometimes the graph will look like Amy showed of Henry’s (we call it the “nosedive”) -looks like it’s going to start dropping then lose signal. Stressful. Also worse when time for a new transmitter. I haven’t tried restarting a G6. If it didn’t work SO WELL when it does work we wouldn’t put up with all this!!
Mine tells me its low alllllll the time!!!!! I'm like, well my A1C better be kick ass!🙄
The First 24 hr are less accurate , do not calibrate it before 36 hr usage and then only when sugar is stable ( arrow horizontal)
Hugs! Could it be a transmitter issue?
All these sensor errors are causing our transmitter to end early so new we need a new transmitter. 🤦 So I guess we will find out.
The alerts drive me crazy I hate it
I also got type 1 diabetes when I was 2
I am in Canada and we had a different issue with a brand new sensor failing 30 mins into warm up (a glitch with the app I think). Called customer service and a woman with a very Southern American accent answered 😂 so Canadians get Americans and Americans get...? Praying things start working soon 🙏🏻
Lol. I think they moved to the Philippines.
Have the same problem
Unfortunately I’m experiencing this problem all of a sudden and it’s very annoying
Our problems got better when we switched to a new transmitter
I also recently had to call in for a new transmitter.
MULTIPLE SENSORS FAILING ON INSERTION..........frustrating.
So I’m a kid with type one and my phone has it connected but my cgm doesn’t what should I do I’m scared
Sometimes it can stop and start up again. It's really annoying. We usually end up poking a finger to test to see what the actual number is during the time it doesn't work. Sometimes dehydration can cause this problem too.
I just got a new like reader like the thing in the middle and it’s stuck on the old one so yeah that’s why it won’t connect
Ohhh you'll have to "forget" the old one.
I’m not gonna mess with it but how do I do that I’m sorry for messing with you it’s just I hate my life ever since this happened and it stresses me out so much
I wish it would tell you its guess even if it thinks its inaccurate...maybe show a confidence interval. I can make a decision if it said I'm at 289 +/-50 more than I can with just Error.
My son has Autism, schizophrenia, a heart issue and is a type 1 diabetic due to having his pancreas taken out last year(hereditary pancreatitis). His DexCom is always off. Nearly 20 points every time. His doctor is expecting me to make decisions on how much insulin to give buy these numbers, 20 points is alot when your diet is carb controlled. Only reason why I'm having him wear it is for the low alerts. Otherwise it's a paperweight. It's very frustrating.
So frustrating. How can we ever trust future looping?? You know where the pump just automatically gives more insulin or less based on cgm. 🤷♀️🤦♀️
When I read complaints of CGM systems being "off" accuracy wise I always find myself thinking, since you are gauging the accuracy with a finger stick glucose monitor you might want to keep in mind that the best of these are also often "off" sometimes by 30-40%! In a very real sense using a glucose monitor to check the accuracy of a CGM system is rather like using a ruler to check the accuracy of the odometer in your car or vice versa. Like it or not all currently available glucose measuring devices are at best only accurate to about +- 15 to 30%. Which anyone taking insulin knows is not accurate enough!
@@boatman222345 we are new to this as my son recently had his pancreas removed. When his Endo doctor is telling me to solely rely upon his Dexcom, I was thinking she knew best. Apparently not.
@@dreamflight6000 only if your insurance company pays for the guardian sensor.
Looks like it’s being calibrated which it shouldn’t be. Dexcom is better than what I had growing up
That being said to still sucks you are having issues
I just started using a Dexcom, and I’ve gone through 3 sensors in the past week. I’ve been having such inaccurate readings, random lows and highs. Plus , now it doesn’t read 75% of the time.
Me too!!!
I wonder if it might be the transmitter?? That is totally frustrating!! I'm so sorry. It really stinks to have to have so many pokes!! Poor kiddo!
We will find out because since all these sensors failed, his transmitter is dying early so we need to put a new one on now.
Oh man, what a hassle. Hopefully that will solve the problem though and you can get back to good BG readings real soon! I really feel for you!
I have the same problem
It’s your transmitter
Call the 800 number because I have one and mine works fine so if you have any more issues you should also call the Goldwater locker room and try to see if you can get compensation and go with another brand or if you want to fingerstick one that you can hear your results I go with The Prodigy
Looks like his pump keeps going out of range of the sensor
What about a error?
I personally think some industrial espionage has been going on. Someone (the competition) has been sabotaging the Dexcom equipment. Or, the manufacturer is sticking it to America. Or, maybe the problem is in shipping--do they leave it is a freezing cold or boiling hot shipping container too long? Who knows? In the meantime, diabetics suffer. This just plain sucks.
Haha, you have a way too colorful phantasy. Instead of guessing, just stick to what you actually know …which seems to be not very much. 😂
Talking to Dexcom and Tandem is terrible. I like both cgs and pump but customer service is terrible. I dont understand why a company with such a great product can't hire American speakers to help us out. I personally have a hard time understanding what they are trying to say.
Im about to stop using this thing. Im new to it and yet have made it a full life span
