Modiphius received a lot of feedback about how loyal the players were to various factions, so the Survivor, Super Mutants, and the BOS figure was "wasted" if they didn't play those factions. They decided to leave out the miniatures, which also simplified logistics and lowered the cost of the Elder Scrolls starter set all around. I highly recommend to spend the extra money to get the resin versions of the first wave core sets. Plastic is nice, but to get the same amount of detail as the resin, they had to make a lot of the parts tiny and the figures are significantly harder to assemble. The plastic figure bases are also plain, not the sculpted.
I honestly did not appreciate how amazing Modiphius' resin minis are until I had stopped painting them and switched over to painting some other plastic minis (bones / wizkids / d&d). My later minis looked much less impressive and I realized that my painting skills hadn't actually improved as much as I thought XD, it was just that Modiphius' minis are so good they make me look like a better painter. Each part of the sculpt is so well defined and sculpted. I'm not a fan of the actual resin material, but the deatil is just incredible.
Hi at first, you are awesome i immediatelly subbed, perfect stuff and charming presence. I woul like to as if the box stormcloak and imperials sets can be used as adversaries in delve?
Thanks for this, great guide as always Been an avid fan of Wasteland Warfare for a couple of years but have been trying to pinpoint differences and similarities (no cards with minis for example)
Early on, Modiphius had logistics problems with their miniatures coming with the cards. They were dealing with 3 or 4 different factories making components and combining the components at their warehouse near London. If one factory had a hiccup, it delayed everything. So now, the cards are sold with the campaign expansion. For a good bit of their waves, they sold the decks separately, but then there was a major problem at the factory that printed their cards the other year. Rather than delaying the release of the New Vegas unit and item cards for more than six months or releasing the figures without any factory manufactured unit or item cards, they had their printer include punchout cards with the New Vegas epansion book. Nearly every card for Fallout is available as a free download for print and play. I think the only cards they give away for Elder Scrolls are the occasional misprint. Because Elder Scrolls was released during Covid where their development staff was working from home, some miscommunication led to the cards full of misprints and layout mistakes, so most of them are reprinted (properly) in the Chapter One card pack.
@@wittsullivan8130 yeah I remember when the Cards for Fallout switched to the Card Packs. I just wasn’t sure if they were doing the same for Call to Arms. Didn’t want to fork out 100-200 quid for minis just to not have the cards. I’m assuming the Starter bundles come with the cards?
I like to play narrative solo games that involve leveling and collecting loot; is there enough story in the solo mode or is it just unrelated dungeons?
@@MisfitHobbies thanks for the response! I think the Skyrim Adventure Game is more what I’m looking for, but I’m glad you and your group are enjoying this.
Excellent video. But I would also recommend that those interested in Delve mode look at the Into the Dark expansion. It adds a lot of options for replay ability.
Are other enemy variants there own faction in the wargame version? Like are Dwemmer machines, and Bandits their own factions? That'd be cool if they were.
I think the Draugr are the only ones that can be their own playable faction right now. The Bandits are, the cards that enable them to be played as a faction are just delayed. And I think it'll be the same for others too
New subscriber here, enjoying your content! Question - so if I buy just the starter kit, I know it comes with no minis. But how would I go about soloing since it doesn't come with no maps? Game makes it sound like you can play with just that box??
So with the starter set there's a little quest book called Escape from Helgen which has some introductory scenarios in it and enough to get you going. Later down the line you could pick up the Histories of the Empire which has even more scenarios in it or alternatively make your own :) You absolutely can play with just the core rules box if you want to proxy out the mini's as it has everything you need to know in order to play the game including the first chapter of unit and item cards etc.
When you mention the playing mat are you talking about the Skyrim board game as opposed to the miniature game? It’s only fulfilling at the moment and it’s highly likely if he’s emailing, the Modiphius staff are still on their Christmas holidays
@@MisfitHobbies I'm referring to the playing "mat" that was supposed to come with "Skyrim the Adventure Game Miniature Upgrade Set," which doubles as an intro to "A Call to Arms." It says in the listed components that it should have included a play mat for the miniature game. We have the game board that came with "Skyrim The Adventure Game." Damn good game, btw.

I think it was a great move in this case, really helps make your purchases for the game more bespoke

This video deserves a 2023 or 2024 update, going into depth about the different factions etc.
Though this is still a good starter guide
agreed!
This is great! Definitely gonna point people that are interested in the game, in this direction. Such a great overview of how to get started.
Thanks so much Lina! I hope so, there's so much to love about it
Great video as usual, and super helpful, I've been really curious to try out Call to Arms!
Thanks!
This is odd, from yesterday I was thinking about jumping into CtA... 😀 Thanks! It will help me to make my mind
Gotta love a timely video :)

From what I recall they absolutely can and they can be used in solo vs AI games

The faction core sets don’t but the core rules book set has the cards for the Stormcloak, imperial and delve starter boxes…if that makes sense.

Hmm honestly I’d say it’s more unrelated at the moment but there are narrative expansions coming which should build on this

Oh absolutely, History of the Empire is another great expansion
Do the Vampires even have cards yet (wave 3?)
Not as of yet but I believe they're very close to release.

good informative video Sam.
Thanks!
Tried to use your discount code on the US website just for the heck of it. Didn't work. :-( ...but I tried for you! :-D
Yeah unfortunately they don't currently work on the US store :(
My son bought a bunch if crap and never got the playing mat. SPENT AROUND $200.00. He emails and emails and... nothing.

@@danwilliams1920 I don't think anyone got this, and the mention of it in that intro call to arms book was a mistake.
hmmmm the resin models or plastic 🤔
Plastic are my favourite for durability but the starter sets are the only plastic kits available :( the resin kits come with scenic bases though
