The recording I got to know this piece with. GORGEOUS!

7:05 - Largo It couldn't be more lyrical. The major/minor ambiguity creates a good dose of melancholy . And the duo with the horn is magical. And, by the way, Tarasova is underated. She is awesome (check Kabalevsky's 2nd concerto). I have looked into many versions (Shafran, Ma, Vectomov, Kreger) and she's clearly standing out of the crowd there. She achieves the perfect balance between lyrism and gravity, while maintaining a perfect technique (this concerto is sometimes considered a student's one, but playing it from cover to cover without a note out of tune or a bow crack is a challenge)
@@benmeitzen4184 Was about to say that!! A due respect to Tarasova (she is severely underrated in my opinion), but Isserlis is amazing on the 2nd Kabalevsky for sure!! (In my opinion the best only slightly better than Tarasova). I will say though, she for sure has the best recording of Kabalevsky no1!!
One of the best 20th c. concertos!

Pierre-Etienne Mélet I
I still like Yo-Yo Ma's version better
Try Steven Isserlis! In my opinion he has the best rendition of Kebelevsky's 2nd cello concerto.

Truly the best version around on youtube... the right tempo all the time!
1. Allegro (0:00)
2. Largo - molto espressivo (7:05)
3. Allegro - Allegro molto (12:09)
Carlos Merino thanks dude
Such a secret to the public, yet so haunting as all the secrets of the universe
That second movement, Oh my god...
Kabalevski is a very respectable composer, shadowed by Chosttakovitch,

This interpretation is so wonderful. I only knew the Yo-Yo Ma recording of this piece, but that recording is so stale and rushed compared to this one.
