Mike's I think partially joking and being straight up with this. He's on good terms with Mark and Travis and good friends with Matt Skiba, but never seemed to like Tom much anytime he's spoken about him. Him and Melvin have both said that blink-182 ripped them off with their stage banter and early musical style (which is debatable as they both pretty much took it from the Descendants and Ramones, NOFX just did it earlier), and Tom was the NOFX fanboy in the band. It's dumb to slag them for that though, as there were literally dozens if not hundreds of bands who openly ripped off NOFX and all the other Fat Wreck bands, plenty of other punk bands employed toilet humor too, and you could make a strong argument that NOFX were a poor man's Bad Religion and Descendants ripoff for a long time until Ribbed, White Trash and Punk In Drublic. I think Mike's more than a little bitter, tbh. He didn't get that sweet payout signing blink to Fat like he and the other indie labels wanted, AND the band made it huge on their style of music and humor, albeit watered down for the masses. Fat Mike is also very much about the punk rock DIY scene and anti-mainstream lifestyle (at least in word, he's a huge hypocrite there) so he considered the band sellouts back then. Ironically, like some others have said it was blink's massive popularity that led to a massive jump in popularity, sales and recognition of SoCal punk bands like NOFX, specifically because blink frequently cited them as huge influences. NOFX definitely capitalized on that with Pump Up The Valuum, which was one of their poppiest and most accessible records yet. The comments about Skiba and his relationship with the rest of the band were savage enough that it's probably true, wouldn't be surprised if his role in blink is just like Sergio's was from Deftones in that he's basically a hired hand getting a check, not a full-time official member.
I'm absolutely dying laughing at so many angry people who have no idea which way is up. NOFX, never change. It's like the colored mohawk 30 years ago... a litmus test for "yep, don't want to know that close minded moron" based on reactions.
While its true that NOFX have been around a whole lot longer than Blink and are much more "punk" they really don't have a monopoly on toilet humour, NOFX were influenced themselves by bands like the Descendents among others and they only reformed back in the day because of the Bad Religion Suffer record, they are a tighter much better live band than Blink but then again the guys from Blink would tell you that anyway. If its jealousy then NOFX also had the chance to sell out themselves and sign with a major back in the 90's but chose not to. I garantee you that the older So-Cal punk and hardcore punk bands don't see Nofx as punk either anyway. Its just a bit of sour grapes from Michael here which is a shame as Blink always sighted them as early influences along with screeching weasel, all and the descendents and covered the longest line way back when. Its much better if the old guard actually take these bands under their wing instead of shitting on them ie like when Pennywise took Blink across to Australia for the surf tours to get them exposure and i think even paid for them to come. But yeah he is straight tripping if he thinks the band got better when Skiba joined and I am a massive alkaline trio fan

It's just a joke guys! Actually, Tom Delonge is good friends with Eric. I remember seeing a post from NOFX on instagram thanking Tom for sorting them out with his private jet when they couldn't get to a show. I just think Fat Mike is a little crossed Blink never signed to Fat Wreck - You have to remember that Blink used to tour with bands which 90% of those bands were signed to Fat Wreck (Lagwagon, Less Than Jake, Strung Out etc). Blink basically went ''fuck the punk scene'', signed to one of the biggest record labels at the time and took a different path. And that's fair enough! If you get the opportunity, why wouldn't you? That's why Fat Mike is a little bit pissed off but I can't blame Blink for choosing the easy path. I don't think they would be that big today hadn't they signed to MCA. Mark always admitted it - Signing to MCA is what changed their lives. I love NOFX but Fat Mike likes to act all punk rock yet NOFX typically ask a guarantee of around 30-40k per show... How punk rock of them. Fat Mike is a rockstar and he knows it! He's a hypocrite
Yeah fat Mike is such a diva and NOFX act like the gatekeepers for all things punk in the scene One of the least punk rock things you can do is constantly s*** on everybody else and act as though you are the voice of reason when it comes to all that is righteous and good
If you take this seriously and think they ever wanted to "make it" then you don't know the first thing about NOFX lmao...you realize that they actually chose NOT to sign to majors when given the offers and put this on their album "Heavy Petting Zoo": "No Thanx to: MTV - Quit bugging us Major Labels - Quit bugging us Commercial Radio Stations - Quit playing us We've been doing just fine all these years without you so leave us the FUCK alone! Assholes"
There probably fucking around . Tom actually said that he got motivated to play in a band when he saw NOFX live . He loved how they joked around and play like shit but still had fun . And by instagram you can see that el hefe is liking many posts from Tom. What kind of statements you dont agree with me and which you agree for example ? I'm interested now ^^
yeah like ive seen some of your comments from older shows like from 96 or 97 and i think i saw one in the pursuit of tone i think, and a few in california lyric videos, and i can see that you are not a huge fan of that album or of the current era of the band, as it is. and i get it and i think its good that fans can be critical of a band they like, and i think you like me can agree that california is by far the weakest album of blink and came somewhat uninspired, but i could enjoy some of the songs, mainly the dlx songs but the thing is that i wasnt really a fan of the post reunion/ neighborhoods era, mainly because tom didnt really seemed to be much into it, like he seemed kinda off, he started singing kinda weird, getting drunk or high before shows and kinda stopped committing to the band. granted i think we got really good songs from neighborhoods and tom was the main songwriter of those songs like ghost on the dance floor and wishing well, but to me the whole record was kinda in-cohesive, like half of it is great but the other is kinda forgettable some of the elements he brought from AVA worked pretty well some not so much, and well from what travis said in the past, they worked very together very little and tom wasnt around to approve mixes. later by 2013, it seemed blink shows were kinda happening less and less, the follow up to neighborhoods got delayed many times and finally...he was just out...of the band. i was sad but not really surprised, before he left we could see tom was promoting many side activities or other things like the dream walker, the poet anderson series and just overall anything else, anything but blink. so you know after all this time, he really showed what he really is interested in and im glad that he is doing what he wants, instead of having his commitments to blink drag him and mark and travis down. and so matt came along and overall have been pretty pleased with him, i can understand some of the criticism he gets and agree with some of it at times, but overall have been pleased with him,. though california is probably the weakest blink album, i think it was mainly on mark and feldmann, but i could enjoy some of it and thought they made a better album with nine. and now i think they are all enjoying what they are doing, tom with his other activities with films and music and blink with matt. the thing is that i can understand how important tom was for the band but i never agreed when fans say they should have disolved the band fans its like they are really quick to dismiss mark and travis' input to the blink name and to me they were on their right to continue the band, even if tom didnt have the commitment or ability to continue the band. i still love tom to death and im so happy he is truly doing what he wants and i can enjoy new blink with matt. theyre all doing what they want
this is hilarious considering NOFX was tom delonges idols and now NOFX wishes they were half the size of tom delonge xD not sure why they're upset with tom .. smells like jealousy

There's a pretty interesting chapter in the "Hepatitis Bathtub" NOFX bio book about all the record label mania surrounding pop punk in the early/mid 90s. Melvin specifically talks about how Blink 182's humor was directly influenced by the Hefe/Fat Mike banter dynamic. At the time, they were the only band doing it.
Nofx is my favorite band but I heard the argument that it was blink that in large part helped to butter Nofx bread. Like if it wasn't for blink punk would not have been so popular. Also blinks greatest achievement was a enema to the state of punk it self. Not being too preachy and full of resentment- which was a gift not only to a genre but a generation of kids. It seemed to influence the entire scene and still does to this day.
What? ... Blink were third wave pop punk. Green Day and NoFX had their big hits before Blink had theirs? The reason California pop punk got big is because Bad Religion's Suffer was distributed to major record stores and got radio play. Then Bad Religion's No Control sold really well and it lead to a huge bidding war for pop punk bands. Blink weren't involved in that. They were signed after the big successes and radio play of those first wave bands. NoFX laid the ground work for Blink commercially. Not the other way around.
@@medes5597 Yeah that makes more sense, but even Fat Mike is quoted as saying Nirvana, who weren’t pop punk, yet talked up punk rock and admitted having pop sensibilities that helped change things on a crossover level. Sure, Bad Religion were getting bigger and led the charge & had Green Day support them on a tour, but BR didn’t really have crossover appeal. It’s fair to say Green Day were the ones that really brought pop punk to the mainstream and helped opened the doors for Blink 182 and others to follow in their path & get signed and actually got people listening to and buying NOFX, Bad Religion, Decedents and so on…
@@VanielDeeform very true, but the interest in pop punk began with Suffer being in major record stores. Basically that record sold better than any label anticipated, showing there was an audience for it. Without that Green day wouldn't have been signed and Dookie would never have happened. Funny enought, being obsessed with Tom Delonge growing up, is what got me to love NOFX. Mike isn't happy yet, so he has to keep hating on people. that's not what punks about anymore.
Same. This video makes me embarrassed for mike. Lost a bit of respect for him.
He is just joking around, there is video of Eric surprising Tom on stage
lol at people expressing opinions on a band with decades worth of humor they clearly don't understand...
You guys realise matt skiba and mike are really tight?

That says nothing really. Beiber probably has millions more listeners than the Beatles.

@@danielsolano330 Blink made / makes more money is the point. Blink is better funnier and evolved NOFX sounds exactly the same and the amount of good songs on their albums compared to ok or bad songs on the albums Blink blows them out of the water.
Well that's one way to turn your own crowd against you.
Way to get the opposite reaction than intended. Jesus. Blink rules and NOFX struggling and talking about giving it up. Lol
They're retiring not giving it up 🤦♂️ both bands are good. Tom has no clue you exist, stop whining cause someone made a joke.
So I'm not the only one who thinks it sucks that toms favorite band disses him
Funny how a NOFX video is full of salty Blink183 fans.
This is just cringe bwah
Yeah, you're right, and nobody liked NoFX 30 years ago either. Hell Rancid made these guys sound crappy. I can shit on a microphone and record it too.
1:09 yeah now i feel diffrent about NOFX
But yeah he is straight tripping if he thinks the band got better when Skiba joined and I am a massive alkaline trio fan
yes well done on your short story. However real is real, no respect is given to mimic acts who jump on trends, expand your knowledge man ffs
@@rizzla7588 mimic acts there just fans of the same genre of music and emulated their style nothing wrong with that at all, they had their own sound although similar, thousands of bands did the same again simply jealous as they did not blow up like blink did, expand my knowledge shut up moron

That's no way to fuck around. He knows he means that stuff he is saying.
Yeah fat Mike is such a diva and NOFX act like the gatekeepers for all things punk in the scene
One of the least punk rock things you can do is constantly s*** on everybody else and act as though you are the voice of reason when it comes to all that is righteous and good
Mike is a douche.. thats all lol
he's just salty because his band never made it
If you take this seriously and think they ever wanted to "make it" then you don't know the first thing about NOFX lmao...you realize that they actually chose NOT to sign to majors when given the offers and put this on their album "Heavy Petting Zoo": "No Thanx to: MTV - Quit bugging us Major Labels - Quit bugging us Commercial Radio Stations - Quit playing us We've been doing just fine all these years without you so leave us the FUCK alone! Assholes"
@@Capnsensible80 that’s cool and all but I don’t think I asked?🤨
No they never made it. They just sell out shows around the world 40 years into their career. Idiot
There probably fucking around . Tom actually said that he got motivated to play in a band when he saw NOFX live . He loved how they joked around and play like shit but still had fun . That’s how he wanted Blink to be . Yes, Tom might have stole humor from them and yes NOFX did it first, but that doesn’t matter . Blink-182 did it better. They perfected.

Yeah I'm one of the biggest fans from Blink 182. They're my all time favourite band and they influensed me a lot in my music. It's kinda funny that someone remember me for making comments on other blink videos xD
But back to the topic. I totally agree with you And i can remember that scene where Tom says that. I bet those comments came from people who never listened to nofx and dont know them. That is nothing but typical behaviour of fat mike and i like how El Hefe says ''I wouldn't say that'' after Mike has said that Blink got much better since Tom left the band. And by instagram you can see that el hefe is liking many posts from Tom.
What kind of statements you dont agree with me and which you agree for example ? I'm interested now ^^
yeah like ive seen some of your comments from older shows like from 96 or 97 and i think i saw one in the pursuit of tone i think, and a few in california lyric videos, and i can see that you are not a huge fan of that album or of the current era of the band, as it is. and i get it and i think its good that fans can be critical of a band they like, and i think you like me can agree that california is by far the weakest album of blink and came somewhat uninspired, but i could enjoy some of the songs, mainly the dlx songs
but the thing is that i wasnt really a fan of the post reunion/ neighborhoods era, mainly because tom didnt really seemed to be much into it, like he seemed kinda off, he started singing kinda weird, getting drunk or high before shows and kinda stopped committing to the band. granted i think we got really good songs from neighborhoods and tom was the main songwriter of those songs like ghost on the dance floor and wishing well, but to me the whole record was kinda in-cohesive, like half of it is great but the other is kinda forgettable some of the elements he brought from AVA worked pretty well some not so much, and well from what travis said in the past, they worked very together very little and tom wasnt around to approve mixes. later by 2013, it seemed blink shows were kinda happening less and less, the follow up to neighborhoods got delayed many times and finally...he was just out...of the band. i was sad but not really surprised, before he left we could see tom was promoting many side activities or other things like the dream walker, the poet anderson series and just overall anything else, anything but blink. so you know after all this time, he really showed what he really is interested in and im glad that he is doing what he wants, instead of having his commitments to blink drag him and mark and travis down. and so matt came along and overall have been pretty pleased with him, i can understand some of the criticism he gets and agree with some of it at times, but overall have been pleased with him,. though california is probably the weakest blink album, i think it was mainly on mark and feldmann, but i could enjoy some of it and thought they made a better album with nine. and now i think they are all enjoying what they are doing, tom with his other activities with films and music and blink with matt. the thing is that i can understand how important tom was for the band but i never agreed when fans say they should have disolved the band fans its like they are really quick to dismiss mark and travis' input to the blink name and to me they were on their right to continue the band, even if tom didnt have the commitment or ability to continue the band. i still love tom to death and im so happy he is truly doing what he wants and i can enjoy new blink with matt. theyre all doing what they want
are they always trying to be funny on stage like blink always did? i can't see the difference between dissing and joking :/
this is hilarious considering NOFX was tom delonges idols and now NOFX wishes they were half the size of tom delonge xD not sure why they're upset with tom .. smells like jealousy

mostly. lol They should talk to Matt more on stage, poor Skibbs

He's right you know.
This dudes act is tired af
Basically suffer/no control are the striker, green day is the match struck against it that lit everything on fire.
I love how travis is way better than the entire NOFX band
Who are them? It's a band or circus?
I think these guys are great but calling California better than previous work trolling or not deserves some lost cred
I love Blink but I'll be honest... I can't really get into anything from when Matt was in the band.
Kinda funny cuz blink 182 comes out on top in that story lol nothing against smelly but Travis barker is gunna go down as one of the best drummers there was lol
