  • This year I bought Duolingo's paid subscription Super Duolingo to see if it would boost my language learning skills. Now, I am deciding whether it is worth the money or not since the regular version of Duolingo is free. The subscription does provide more benefits for learning my target languages but are they valuable enough for me to keep paying?

    So I bought the super duolingo app last year and honestly, I love it.
    Here’s why: I’m not often THAT motivated to learn. Sometimes I am, and I’ll use the “unlimited hearts / no ads” feature to the fullest. But there are some days, I have to force myself just to do one lesson. They make it a quick, fun, easy “game” that I do once a day to at least keep it a little fresh on my brain.

    • @spanishblueprints
      @spanishblueprints  Год назад

      I feel you there, I experience those days quite frequently where I don't even want to open the app.
      Do you still have super Duolingo?

    • @jumboblading
      @jumboblading Год назад +7

      @@spanishblueprints Yeah i'm still using it everyday. I get it though, for people that want to learn a lot very quickly, it's probably not the best route. But for a casual learner, it's worked for me. I feel like without it, something so quick and simple, I wouldn't have kept up learning spanish. Now I'm on my 245 streak and I know enough to get around. I'm definitely not as fluent as you though, 😅😂

      For me, it has helped me learn French faster I think because I find pushing myself to learn new words and phrases with other methods really hard and sometimes boring.
      How long have you been learning Spanish for?

  • @juliocezar9294
    @juliocezar9294 9 месяцев назад +5

    Heyy, this is a former english learner, now i consider myself as a brand new français learner since i made up my mind to learn it from scratch! i was trying to look for videos like this in order to know whether it is going to be a worthwhile purchase or just simply not, frankly speaking what Duolingo engages me the most it is the weekly league ranking and its lightning rounds which btw are really challenging and good learning tool cuz i have to be extremely focused and be careful to finish the round without running out of time, im really tempted to highlight the first place everytime, you guys might get it wrong this type of learn gaming engagement but the results are very effective for me: im really aware of the french typing since im using the PC version so i learnt how to switch keyboards when i need it and i feel like im getting used to (same happened to me with Russian) some lessons are about typing stuff, idk how useful it might be in the future for me but it's really exciting typing in a different language lol.. back to the point im running out of gems, for free version u need to pay 30 gems for each lightning round. This is the only reason why i would purchase the super version, the others features are slighty meaningless for me unless those feedback exams or speaking exercises, idk about them..

    • @spanishblueprints
      @spanishblueprints  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hola, I am with you all the way! I find it very rewarding and exciting to type in a different language.
      What you described about features you like about Duolingo are different than what I like so you can see how the value of purchasing Super Duolingo can differ learner to learner. If you have enough funds, you could just pay for 1 month subscription and then cancel it. I am not sure if there is any sale on any of the subscriptions but that is my best advice!
      Are there any other apps that you are using to learn your target language(s)?

      Yes the forum! Did their job for them and they got rid of it. Poor decision. Also re-doing their trees killed my learning in Japanese since most of the stuff I had learned was now locked later in the tree and I would have to push through all kinds of new stuff to get back to those words and phrases. Very disappointed in duolingo's changes.

    I had while I was studying it I actually liked it a lot. but unfortunately fell into some financial trouble these last couple of months and had to unsubscribe for a bit till I get everything back up to speed. It's just hard trying to juggle everything and really channel my focus with all of that going on. But on the flipside I learned a great deal while I was studying it. I know the weekdays by heart and don't have to look at the chart which is a huge step. And right when I thought I wasn't catching onto any of it. it mushroomed 🍄on me bigtime! 😅

    I know Duolingo might look the same on different platforms, there are a fair number of differences between them. But for me I am on Android. I find when I am make a mistake or two I would have to ' practice to replenish hearts ' which does slow me down ... but this means I don't actually run out or use gems/lingots for replenishing them. The only issue I find is if I make so many mistakes in a lesson that I run out of hearts before finishing it, I haven't had that happen as of yet.
    I used to pay for Duolingo back when it was Duolingo plus, because at the time I felt it was more to support the company and help them develop it. This attitude soured when a lot of the features that were being developed would come to iPhone users (not the web not android) months before they trickled out to everyone else... if they ever came at all. I get the reasoning behind the supporting iPhone vs the other platforms debate, it's where a majority of the paying users are... but I was paying and not seeing a benefit myself for it. Throwing money down a pit... so I didn't renew... and yes I have ads, yes I have hearts but I do my best to not make too many mistakes and I put my phone down when the ads that last longer than 5 seconds appear. It's going okay so far.

    • @spanishblueprints
      @spanishblueprints  Год назад

      I haven't thought about the differences in features between cell phone users before. That is a valid point.
      Did Duolingo actually come out and say that they give iPhone users features first because there are more iPhone users?

      @@spanishblueprints i love learning and treating languages like a fun project. therefore i actually create my own self-study lesson plans (catered to what i actually need / want to learn) from an array of different materials and resources. they include themes like grammar, reading, writing, culture, speaking, etc. i think it’s fun and intriguing. plus it prevents mindlessly studying, it makes it realistic. i’ve learned all of my languages this way. i use language apps as a guide or sometimes an outline. just something for quick practice to retain information. but for the actual foundations of the language i tend to devour on my own.
