The way Ostapenko's ball legitimately caused Kostyuk to scampered around the court is really telling on the depth and quality of Ostapenko shotmaking. She really hit the ball deep and powerful, and her serve is actually getting slightly faster so it's just the matter on how she can produce cleaner performance
It looks like Kostyuk can slide on the hard court better than a lot of WTA players. But ofc no one on the tour can do the open stance backhand slide better than 1GA!
Ostapenko looks at least 20lbs heavier then in 2017 When she became a millionaire winning the French Open.

A performance like this explains why Ostapenko is very emotive on the court when she is losing. She knows she really has once-in-a-generation caliber groundstrokes, and really she should win every match that she plays. Kostyuk was giving this match everything. And she seems in great shape this season, and it still was not enough.

Ostapenko finally played like she should and once again easily in straight sets defeated Marta Kostyuk. Congratulations to Ostapenko. What a start of the season for her. 5 wins and only 1 defeat. Unexpectedly great start of the season by drama queen Ostapenko.
I love Jelena Ostapenko's verve and the relish with which she hits drive volleys.
Ostapenko's just effortlessly hammering the ball and painting the lines. The next match against Ekaterina would be an exciting one - either a cliffhanger or a one-sided whitewash.
Two big hitters, just have a feeling Ekat might edge it, she's been serving very well.
Kostyuk needs a good coach; she has a potential, but shot selection and strategy is the same no matter who she plays against... Ain't gonna cut it against the top players and she is always on the loosing side...

Ostapenko will win this tournament. The thing about her is you can usually tell when she’s going to win the tournament right from the money based on her form.
I swear I'd go mad if I had to play Penko, her shot-making and selection is crazy, it's like the most annoying and difficult ball each time

I almost did not recognize Penko...why my feeling said she looks different
Kostyuk has a decent all-round game, consistent ball-striking, etc, but... she doesn't have a single big weapon! There are so many situations in matches where she should be hitting hard into the corners, but it never happens. I'm not quite sure how that's happened, it must be down to the coaches she's used.
Her weapon is her movement
@@wolfgangwiesinger9502 Movement is only a weapon if its married to some shotmaking ability, otherwise it goes to waste. It helps her get to the odd dropshot quickly, but by itself it won't swing matches against the best hitters.

2 of the biggest Drama Queens in recent Tennis History. Kostyuk cant stand her and her tantrums like a 5 years old little girl every point she loses.. and Ostapenko what else is there to say that hasnt been said… the simplettons like her.. Good for them!
the only strat of ostapenko is to hit as hard as she can ( fast winners ) coz she is physically incapable of holding longer rallies ... im not fat shaming but it is what it is ... soo whoever can break that pattern by placing the ball in a wierder pos soo that she can't get a fast winner and make her run around the court then that player can easily beat her
The hard hitting makes it hard for most players to move her around because she doesn't give them a chance 😂😂
That's why quality defensive players always beat her easily. Like Ash Barty, Kerber etc.

The problem for Kostyuk is that her serve is also quite vulnerable.

Even though I strongly dislike both of these players, I enjoyed watching the match!
On on end we have an always angry, sulking Ostapenko who thinks it's fashionable to dress in marshmallow colors and whose coach thinks he is a Samurai with his ridiculous man bun... always sweating and looking afraid that his mistress will pull out the whip and give him a good flogging -
on the opposite side we have Kostyuk, another one of those influencer tennis divas who has decided to become a political activist (I guess this way she'll get more hits and friends and likes on Instagram).
So if I criticise both so harshly - why did I enjoy watching the match? For two reasons:
The first one is Kostyuk's very attractive landing gear, well shaped, perfectly sculpted, I'd call it perfection -
the second one of course is that Ostapenko kicked her ass without much fuss! 😆😆

Penko got lucky, that dreadful second serve she's got is asking to be hit. She cant go deep into the tournaments with that kind of second serve

For a lifetime she will never be a top 20 player and for a life time she would never win a grandslam. But she will continue to show the ugly face by bringing the politics into the game with her behaviour. Congragts Jelena 🌹
