miata has an edge cornering. charger has an edge in a straight line. you guys never watched BTCC on tv as a kid watching escorts outrun way larger more powerful cars. this is called the david and goliath effect
they should really show the amount of dislikes before you click on the video. that way shit videos with good titles don't continue to get lots of views
There's just no way the Miata would outrun or out handle the Charger with a 5.7 Liter or 6.4 Liter Hemi ! I've driven them both, the Charger is the winner for sure.
your stupid, the charger cant turn, maneuverability is far better, and with a tunned engine the miata can have more hp per ton, greater speed, acceleration and everything else.......
I didn't think much of the Miata until my friend at the car dealership picked up a 100K used example about 10 years ago. I took it out for a spin and it was fantastic. Still tight and responsive and handled like a go kart. Easily one of the best cars ever produced.
@pktfx so what should the police use as a pursuit vehicle? a mazda miata? dodge chargers are tough and fast. plus most chases occur on highways so horsepower is more important than handling
@millakilla the corvette doesn't have actual leaf springs, it has a double wishbone suspension with a fiberglass mono-leaf that serves as an anti-roll bar. there are other car brands that use a similar type of set up too. Examples are Volvo and Fiat.
Keep in mind while watching this that the Miata is giving up well over 200 horsepower to the Charger. For just one corner, weight isn't *that* big of a deal. Back to back corners is where low weight comes in handy as you're trying to keep the car in check while changing it's angular momentum. On most American roads you'd be better off with a more powerful engine than better handling. (don't get me wrong.. I love pure and simple little cars like the Miata)
@ilikeme101 not really, the 3.5L has dual exhaust as well(Most police departments run the 3.5L), only the 2.7L has a single exhaust. Not that it really matters seeing as how they have ceased production of both of these engines which have been replaced by the 3.7L Pentastar.
Like dodges or hate em', HP to weight is the only thing that will matter on an American interstate. The Miata carries it's advantage on tight roads that favor a compact wheelbase and light weight.
Most chases occur on highways, long straight and fast pursuits. This can outrun a charger in the cones but on the highway it wouldn't even be able to get a mile down the road before it was crushed.
This is from the look of it a police media add to show their new motors. Thus the police car has to be on his tail. I recon the Mazda driver was having a cup of tea whilst going around!
yea that they can "upgrade" a Miata and have a potentially great get away car in neighborhoods or just alot roads with quick street turns n just pretty much loose them...
I would play that game all day. Either running or chasing. Also, the Miata would have gotten away if there were any doughnut shops on that pursuit course.
I'm a Dodge guy, but currently own two Miatas. I've driven a Charger R/T and was completely unimpressed. That thing is a tank. Throw in some turns and there is no way the Charger is going to keep up.
I live in Hawaii and the police here can select their own car as long as it meets certain specs so some have gotten Infinity G 35 and G37's . I'd like to see either of these cars try to keep up with the the Infinity's.
Back in 1986 when I would pass hidden state troopers on my Yama-FJ1200 they wouldn't even bother to chase me in Colorado. If they did I could be at 170MPH in a few seconds. 170MPH was my personal tested top-speed.
@jesman1985 but the mazda looks kinda chicky ya know? I would deff go for a wrx or evo. Where i live the awd would be kick ass in the winter. plus you can do power doughnuts in the parking lots haha. when I graduate im hoping to get an 07 evo or wrx.
It's easy to catch a slower car with a faster car when you KNOW where they're going (ie course with cones)! Whole different story when the runner is reckless and the cop is clueless to they're next move!
All we Miata drivers need to do is be certain to be on a Auto-cross course whenever we are being pursued by a cop so that we can out corner them every 150 feet. Otherwise, we're screwed.
I outran, or well, outsmarted, a charger police car in my state after blowing crap up behind a school. He was chasing me, and I had him in a neighborhood around all of the corners, he was faster in the straights though, so what I did was when I went around a corner, I quickly pulled to the right of the road, slammed on the brakes, turned the car off and GOT THE HELL DOWN. He drove right by and I went home. I was driving a Geo Prizm... Yeah, try and tell me that police are good drivers...
The point of the video was that the Charger Police package- upgraded suspension and brakes- can chase down a STOCK Miata. From experience, the Charger could have PIT the Miata much sooner.
of course in this case CONTROL would be the main topic and thats where the Miata would Excel in very tight corners it can loose the cops and i think it would have a little bit more of better acceleration than the Charger because of its front wheel drive and turbo charged engine.
you missed the point.. I agree, drag racing is not racing, it's who can shift and use their power better than the other guy... what I meant by comment was this closed course, with the quick turns that it had, allowed the miata to keep away from the charger. I was merely expressing that on an open street with pedestrians and traffic to get in your way, or perhaps a long block to travel before your next turn instead of immediately snaking a turn like on this closed course, the miata wouldn't win.
@NamelessTainment a country is a state. the "states" in the US were considered seperate countries by their colonizers (like europe), until they formed a unified federal government, hence the united states of america. but the word state is still used to refer to a country, germany is a state, the UK is a state, china is a state, etc.
This video reminds me of a weak action movie from the 80's
Hahaha how could you dislike?
Expected an OG '90 Miata? xD
i love how this was all on a track
Also as someone who's been pulled over by a Charger.
It's a lot harder to spot an unmarked car with the Chargers than it is with the Crown Vic.
It's interesting to see the comparison between the two vehicles and how something like this would take place.
miata has an edge cornering. charger has an edge in a straight line. you guys never watched BTCC on tv as a kid watching escorts outrun way larger more powerful cars. this is called the david and goliath effect
5hemi 7 = 5.7L V8 HEMI
they should really show the amount of dislikes before you click on the video. that way shit videos with good titles don't continue to get lots of views
there's a plugin for chrome for that (at least there was, i'm using firefox now)
cheers ^
this is the first pursuit i saw with a full course with cones...... great simulation
Agility HELL!! That Miata was fishtailing all over the road while the Charger was stuck to it like glue!
There's just no way the Miata would outrun or out handle the Charger with a 5.7 Liter or 6.4 Liter Hemi ! I've driven them both, the Charger is the winner for sure.
i mean i have seen a 1.3 liter rx7 go 7 second quarter mile. soo anything is possible.
out handle...of course it can out handle. Out run another story, but why you think a charger handles better than a car designed for handling?
wut
Luke Kuryluk
The rx7's rotary engine is a whoooooole nother' beast. you cant very well compare it to traditional reciprocating engines.
your stupid, the charger cant turn, maneuverability is far better, and with a tunned engine the miata can have more hp per ton, greater speed, acceleration and everything else.......
does anybody realize how balanced the miata is made? They are great track cars, and run very good for what they are!!
I didn't think much of the Miata until my friend at the car dealership picked up a 100K used example about 10 years ago. I took it out for a spin and it was fantastic. Still tight and responsive and handled like a go kart. Easily one of the best cars ever produced.
They should put the Stig in the Miata.
@PJChilds good observation that makes a lot of sense. is the miata rear wheel drive?
No one:
RUclips: let’s recommend a video after 10 years
@pktfx
so what should the police use as a pursuit vehicle? a mazda miata? dodge chargers are tough and fast. plus most chases occur on highways so horsepower is more important than handling
The original Miata weighed about 2000 pounds and had a perfect 50/50 weight distribution
Who's watching in 2018 wanting to watch this nostalgia again?
hey are these car's motors equal?
did it have a vtec?
Why did the persuit end? o.0
Exactly. No matter how fast or nimble your car is, you can't outrun a police force.
@millakilla the corvette doesn't have actual leaf springs, it has a double wishbone suspension with a fiberglass mono-leaf that serves as an anti-roll bar. there are other car brands that use a similar type of set up too. Examples are Volvo and Fiat.
where was his back-up?
so handbrake turns must be considered a voluntary PITT?
Keep in mind while watching this that the Miata is giving up well over 200 horsepower to the Charger. For just one corner, weight isn't *that* big of a deal. Back to back corners is where low weight comes in handy as you're trying to keep the car in check while changing it's angular momentum. On most American roads you'd be better off with a more powerful engine than better handling. (don't get me wrong.. I love pure and simple little cars like the Miata)
@53bigtex in what world does a miata have better acceleration than a charger? Maybe you were talking about handling?
Chasing that Miata through there in a Dodge Charger would be like chasing a mosquito through some ventilation ducts.
i cant believe that they got such good angles on a car chase!
What did he pit him with? displaced air from the oversized Charger?
Put the Stig in that Mazda and the Charger is history.
This is why I have a subscription to... Car and Driver.
i didn't knew that the graphics were so good on the new need for speed hot pursuit
Charger is so much cooler than a crown Vic in my opinion. Awesome vid.
@ilikeme101 not really, the 3.5L has dual exhaust as well(Most police departments run the 3.5L), only the 2.7L has a single exhaust. Not that it really matters seeing as how they have ceased production of both of these engines which have been replaced by the 3.7L Pentastar.
When this originally came out in 2007/8, the Miata was able to catch the Charger on their simulated neighborhood course.
this reminds me of DRIV3R
I agree but we don't know what tires their using which could explain the results.
@reymatt76
I was saying that it was way too agile for the Charger to keep up.
Looks like the Mazda driver is more concerned about going sideways than getting away from the Charger.
I think the moral of the story is that you might be able to outrun the police car, but you can't outrun the police radio.
"Requesting backup because I can't keep up with a piece of crap with a lawnmower engine in it"
somebody got passed by a miata and can't get over it..
Imagine if the MX-5 had suspension, brake and engine upgrades, the cop would have even more trouble keeping up. :)
Can I buy this song on itunes?
You are absolutely right. They are the V6 3.6L
just the roar of the charger is enough to get me to buy it
Like dodges or hate em', HP to weight is the only thing that will matter on an American interstate. The Miata carries it's advantage on tight roads that favor a compact wheelbase and light weight.
@adamslurch71 lol nice comeback. how long did it take to think that up?
Most chases occur on highways, long straight and fast pursuits. This can outrun a charger in the cones but on the highway it wouldn't even be able to get a mile down the road before it was crushed.
Heavy Hemi cant hang with motorsport Miata!
"Im having trouble keeping up with him, request back up!" LOL!!!
you know this is fake
Great police work there, a pit maneuver that deploys itself.
This is from the look of it a police media add to show their new motors. Thus the police car has to be on his tail. I recon the Mazda driver was having a cup of tea whilst going around!
Makes a great commercial, but look what you are putting into the minds of Americans.
yea that they can "upgrade" a Miata and have a potentially great get away car in neighborhoods or just alot roads with quick street turns n just pretty much loose them...
I would play that game all day. Either running or chasing. Also, the Miata would have gotten away if there were any doughnut shops on that pursuit course.
@jaredef So isnt it all just one company?....like when I see the Chrysler 300 i get it mixed up sometimes with the Dodge Charger
I'm a Dodge guy, but currently own two Miatas. I've driven a Charger R/T and was completely unimpressed. That thing is a tank. Throw in some turns and there is no way the Charger is going to keep up.
need for speed hot pursuit - the real life edition! :O FTW!
Miata is about bang for the buck. Don't knock one till you have driven one. The 04 and 05 Mazdaspeeds are my favorites.
If they were to remove the cones and let me drive, I would give that Miata a "Charger Enema"!
y do so many people not like this? and just put "puttin on the ritz" to it and itll sound great!
I live in Hawaii and the police here can select their own car as long as it meets
certain specs so some have gotten Infinity G 35 and G37's . I'd like to see either of these cars try to keep up with the the Infinity's.
Even if you can out run the police car you'll never out run their radio.
Back in 1986 when I would pass hidden state troopers on my Yama-FJ1200 they wouldn't even bother to chase me in Colorado. If they did I could be at 170MPH in a few seconds. 170MPH was my personal tested top-speed.
Apparently when you are in a pursuit there are traffic cones lying around to take you to your Getaway
It's not about the car, it's about the freaking driver.
@jesman1985 but the mazda looks kinda chicky ya know? I would deff go for a wrx or evo. Where i live the awd would be kick ass in the winter. plus you can do power doughnuts in the parking lots haha. when I graduate im hoping to get an 07 evo or wrx.
@JaimeIsBroken i'm pretty sure he was trying considering the back end kept coming out around corners
technically, the cop would have just ram into the miata on those turns...
It's easy to catch a slower car with a faster car when you KNOW where they're going (ie course with cones)!
Whole different story when the runner is reckless and the cop is clueless to they're next move!
That Mazda must have had donuts in it.
Man the new Need for Speed graphics are unreal!!
is this training?
Does everyone else realize this music simulates Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit from way back when?
Where was the backup? o_O
he used the force for his pit maneuver
All we Miata drivers need to do is be certain to be on a Auto-cross course whenever we are being pursued by a cop so that we can out corner them every 150 feet. Otherwise, we're screwed.
We got a hell raiser in a white Miata... couldn't help but think of Super Troopers
He didn't do a PIT maneuver, the guy in the Miata just pulled the parking brake lol.
I didn't know the charger had a force field around it that can instantly do the pit maneuver on the Miata without touching it.
The point of the video was that the Charger Police package- upgraded suspension and brakes- can chase down a STOCK Miata. From experience, the Charger could have PIT the Miata much sooner.
wonderful music and video
I love how the Miata didn't really get pitted.
Omg CarMightys car hunt video irl confirmed
of course in this case CONTROL would be the main topic and thats where the Miata would Excel in very tight corners it can loose the cops and i think it would have a little bit more of better acceleration than the Charger because of its front wheel drive and turbo charged engine.
Dodge Charger, a German cake with an American icing. Essentially a Mercedes with Green Card.
you missed the point.. I agree, drag racing is not racing, it's who can shift and use their power better than the other guy... what I meant by comment was this closed course, with the quick turns that it had, allowed the miata to keep away from the charger. Cops: HEY! THAT GUY BROUGHT THE LAST DONUTZ!
I feel old watching this when I first watched this I was possibly 7 or 8 now I am almost 16 this is likely the first RUclips video I watched
this would be fun as hell to do
Can anyone tell me if these Chargers are the 5.7 or the 6.1?
@duckanddodge01 but only when its automatic transmission if clutched as you start to spin than you would be able to make sure the engine didnt stall
this is why u always park INFRONT of the car when u pull someone over..
I can barely fit in one unfortunately. I did tire work on one once and I was just crammed inside. Still was cool though.
Imagine if that Charger had turbo installed that Miata would be screwed. Raw power vs turbo power.
Since when do police radio before doing a PIT? That's the officer's judgement to make when to use it. As it would be to issue a pursuit or not.
he's running he's running.
Anyone else think that looks REALLY fun?!
