This is what would happen if the USS Zumwalt fought a Russian battlecruiser

- The United States Navy commissioned its newest destroyer, USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), last year. It’s had a hiccup or two, but make no mistake, this is a very modern naval warship. It has tons of firepower, including two 155mm guns, 20 four-cell Mk 57 vertical-launch systems, and two 30mm guns. But how would it fare against the best surface combatant in the Russian Navy, the Pyotr Velikiy, the last of four Kirov-class battlecruisers?

"This is what would happen if the USS Zumwalt fought a Russian battlecruiser" ......still waiting to hear what would happen.
the USS Zumwalt would probably destroy a Russian battlecruiser
The USS Zumwalt could probably destroy the entire Russian Navy and all of the tug boats that keep it moving lmaooo!
Smitty Werbenjaegermanjensen very very well said!😂😂😂
Battleships are shit. A quiet nuclear submarine can sink an entire carrier group, and Russia has some extremely good submarines. If a German diesel electric can sneak past U.S. ASW-Ships and get into position to fire onto an aircraft carrier (which it did during a wargame), a couple of Russian subs are gonna fuck any american boat up.
SpriteZero Xxx good thing the Americans have more subs than Russia.
I hate everyone who uses robo voices on videos.
Agreed
And those that add a ton of unedited footage of a ship to hit 10 minutes.
Edit: and get ads for it
Then don't listen to them.
same
Meh doesn't bother me
Both ships break down before leaving port.
These ships are undergoing the same kinds of growing pains every new class of ships goes through.
No. Tumblehome designs have been around for a hundred years.....there are reasons you don't use it is warships. There is no way on this design to eliminate the electronic interference between certain systems...you can use one or the other. Other ships in service around the world suffer this problem too. It comes from a cramped design. You can not fix having the VLS system mounted on the sides....where water can get right at them along with any kind of say collision damage. The list can go on but you get the picture.
I might point out that the class is CANCELLED. Burke production is being extended as they can at least sail when the weathers bad.
There's got to be something to it to pour that much money in it. The engineers aren't exactly stupid.
Lol true
@@shawn97006 That isn't a factor or they wouldn't have invested so much money
Didn't that ship breakdown & left the sailors stranded without power in 2018? 😂😂😂
So....what would happen?.....apart from stopping just outside port.
Make sure to have lots of spares n mechanics on board😂
There is no ammunition for those front two guns! "AGS can only use ammunition designed specifically for the system. Only one ammunition type was designed, and the Navy halted its procurement in November 2016 due to cost ($800,000 to $1,000,000 per round), so the AGS has no ammunition and cannot be used."
The Russian tend to keep their surface fleets close to home for ton of different reasons so a Zumwalt class would have to go to the battle cruiser which would give it a huge disadvantage. They would never be in open water by themselves so to pit one against the other in a heads up battle is dump. Both are warship, both capable of sinking one another. Its not about one platform over the other, it is more about how well each platform function in the greater whole of each navy.
the zumwalt needs a tug to follow it around just in case it breaks down again...lol
How about a video of what would happen if the Zumwalt were to fight a Russian trawler!
Is this before, or after Discovery Channel turns the Zumfault into a crab boat?
the fishes will sink the zumwalt
"The pee otter bell icky eye" smh
'This is what would happen if the USS Zumwalt fought a Russian battlecruiser' - It sits in habour while they play with the inflatable. At least get your titles to reflect video content.
And dont forget, playing with their blue plastic guns too.
Not only do the deploy inflatable boats but they also sail past supporting civilians with a police escort!!
Ikr
"US Defense news" is probably some dot head kid sitting in his mud hut stealing video to put this crap together.
Norm T do you realize an aircraft carrier is the size of a town with a matching population. And as for stores from my knowledge it's simply afres, aka a ship board px
Would love to see footage of this ship in heavy seas. Can't be sure but to me that hull looks like it would be awful in bad weather and rough water.
Apparently not. Its hull design is supposedly very good in bad weather.
I believe the reason that style of hull isn't really used is because if it takes on water it is likely to capsize
They test it in Alaskan seas and it did better that expected, it's just that it's way to expensive
Yeah it probably fashion over functional..
@@sdhtmt
It's highly functional with the usual mechanical problems from a new design but with all the lastest outfits or can be outfitted with a verity of weapons. It's just highly expensive sort of like the F-22 they put a cap on that because it exceeded it's budget during design and manafacturing when we have planes already better than anything in the sky and the F-22s are straight overkill. That's what you got with the Zumalt only during it's design and manafacturing it took "doing to much" to new level
Actually opposite.. It's way more stable, that's one of the main aspects of ship building, its a battleship it had to stay afloat.
Just for the record the Zumwalts stealth capability gives it a radar cross section approximately equal to a ocean going fishing vessel and thus is intended to allow thix ship to blend into the existing battle group, not disappear. The Zumwalts posseses some very advanced technologies that almost certainly will be incorporated into future warship desighn, however this class of vessel does not have a clear mission and is prohibitively expensive, limiting it's run to just three ships. On a final note the US surface fleet is carrier centered giving the United States Navy an almost unfair advantage over the Russians, truth be told in the open ocean no Russian cruiser coul get close enough to the Zumwalt to be a threat before being destroyed by carrier based aircraft.
Carriers are not meant for facing Russia or China, they are meant for supporting America's endless "nation building" and "regime change" wars which support the Industrial Military Complex and insure its existence. People really need to pay attention to current events.
abc64pan ,
Actually you seem very uninformed on Naval Warefare, let me help you out, here are the basics.
Naval Warefare can be divided into three essential missions. First is Sea Control, this historically has been perfomed by Capitol ships such as Battleships or thier more recent replacements, Aircraft Carriers but also can be performed by a variety of smaller surface combatants such as Cruisers or Destroyers, the idea is to establish sea dominance over a particular area extending both above and below the surface, typically perfomed by a task group acting synergetically . The Second Mission is Sea Denial, this has been primarily performed by Submarines but also sea mines and ground based bombers and even fast attack boats have performed this role. Finally support, this can be perfomed by just about any ship but has been most successful when performed by Carriers. Aircraft Carriers due to their size and flexibility generally can perform the Sea Control and Support much better then any other type of weapon system, which is why all Naviee want them.
Now you know something about the subject matter, frankly I don't understand why some people usually Pacifist Liberals feel the need to comment on things they obviously have no knowledge of, I don't know anything about the Russian Ballet so I refain from offering my opinion on it but lack of facts just doesn't seem to stop you people, odd.
It's a early ship of its class, it's not gonna be a good one.
like the arleigh burk, tyconderoga, f-15, abrams, cobra, etc...?
Philip basler, you'll have to be specific, each weapon system you named have entirely different roles and that includes the Arleigh Burke class which is intended primarily for Area Air Defence. The Zumwalt was originally intended as a post Cold War era ground support ship. Due to the protracted time this ship was in development the Navy decided to test numerous new technologies on it and many seem to work great. However usually when a ship undergoes extensive redesighn, costs escalate. This is why I expect to see many new techonogies the Zumwalt makes use of in other future ships. Whether or not this was the best move by the Navy, only time will tell.

As soon as I heard the artificial voice I stopped the video, came to the comments to find this comment and voice my disgust, as well. I DON'T WATCH VIDEOS WITH ARTIFICIAL VOICED NARRATORS. Ever. Never. Not gonna do it.
This one is actually much better than others I've heard, but it isn't great

Yep, I agree completely, if they can't be bothered to actually read it, then I can't be bothered to actually watch it.
Before that it will probably collide with a shipping container.
Cant wait for that to happen
Lmfao. Exactly right. Oh man. Thats great.
No joke! With all the electronic shit they have you would think they could spot a 600 ft cargo ship 50-100 miles away? How can you not notice and change course? Nuts! Somebody isnt awake!
@@richardschauf7373 Not a ship, a little container.
4:16 Imagine someone with a gaming setup like that in their bedroom.
I didnt hear what would happen if they fought
I guess the message was the Zumwalt would bore it death. Well done. The boredom nearly killed me.
Seen that ship blocking the Panama canal a couple years ago; broke down.
seems like it is basically just a giant stealth cruise missile carrier
you don't need a USS Zumwalt Destroyer to sink a Russian navy ship. All you need is Tractor from an Ukranian farmer
Navy Saylor with blue Rifles are absolute Art work
They're probably BB guns.
On paper or video game, esay win,but in real combat is another story
elcormoran1 that goes for Russias shit too.....
Combat with who? A guy driving a "technical" pick-up truck with a gun in the rear? When was the last time we faced an equally armed navy in combat, 1945?
That's kind of the point, isn't it? Systems like this deter other Navy's from attempting anything. However, that does not mean I support the system. I think its way over priced, the rail-gun system that was one of it's flagship weapon systems proved not to be cost effective, and the ship's seaworthiness is questionable. I think the Navy would have done better by purchasing more cruisers and updating its air fleets.

these days ship versus ship are from GPS from other means and shoot from hundreds of miles away.

the type 45 destroyer is a British one, isn't it.
I feel like that is only the firepower they let the public know about. They probably have some crazy shit to fuck enemies shit up with.
Thumbnail reminds me of The Monitor vs The Merrimac battle.
This ship without its towing boat can’t go anywhere.
Sounds like some other Russian ship I know only it needs 2 tugs to keep er going Cough cough Russian cough cough carrier cough
solid snake I was about to bring up the Russian aircraft carrier as well 😂
I lasted until 1:43, then the robo-voice finally drove me away
We're comparing a destroyer to a cruiser meant to shoot down aircraft, now tell me, who will win, an AA platoon or a mortar squad?
the kirov is designed to taken on ships its heavy armored 827ft in length during the cold War the Iowas class battleships were actually sent out with their own battle groups with 4 arleigh burkes and 2 Ticonderoga missiles hunt them down
Hm, didn't know, though the guy in the video said that it's heavily equiped with surface to air armaments 1:31, but it did have anti ship missles.
We are still waiting to see if it can get it's ass outa port
FINALY! They Know How To Make Their Wepons Color blue!
It looks like a raft with a shed on top.
Why is it that the U.S. takes too long to fire a missle on a warship, russia be throwing missles every second.
A destroyer it ain't...more for shore offensives to replace the Iowa battlecruisers. A pair of 30mm chain guns for close defense...brutal. We don't even know if not having a bow hurts it in rough seas...we will see if this was a $4-6 billion dollar per ship was genius or a boondoggle.
that was my thinking... what would happen if a very high wave takes on her starboard?
?
Ask California's resident clown Jerry Brown about billion dollar boondoggles.
Lol what’s a boondoggle
Iowa class battleSHIPS
Don't forget that it broke down again in July 2018 just trying to get to Boston. It needs a new motor that cost 20 million. I guess it's one of those the pumps liquid around the ship to keep it upright. Also it still hasn't joined any fleet action. It just keeps selling from the east coast to the west coast and back again.
Let's see, it has 2 guns that were supposed to be the centerpiece but are useless as the navy has no ammo for them. A stealth design that many experts believe not to be seaworthy, the superstructure is made of compressed wood, let's see how that handles weapons hits. Has no anti ship capabilities(Tomahawk anti ship missile are still years away from testing much less deployment).
Then, what exactly is this thing supposed to do? It makes enough power to support a railgun, that who knows will become an operational weapon, still very much in the R&D stage. Ok, so it gets a railgun, but what good is that, if the ship can't get to where it needs to be?
So it's basically a testbed for future ships. A very very expensive testbed.
Vin496 well sayed👏👌✌️
I might be wrong but I think TASMs are already used extensively by subs for anti-ship warefare.
This ship is for attacking points of interest on land . It's not exactly a battleship . I mean it is but it's not for fighting other ships . It takes out our enemies important land targets .
@@stevenhembree6891 They advertised it as more than that, and paid for more than that
the us is now producing a new high tech cruise missile called the JASSM-XR and has a range of 1,000 miles
From the outside. This could be a Fishing boat. There is no Tell Tale signs what this ship can do. But they Didn' t Mention a Flaix (not sure of the Spelling) Anti Air Craft gun.
Chuck Kelly phalanx
Don't think much of that design, a grossly oversized tower a easy target, there are no safety rails on deck, not good in rough seas.
I agree, the shape goes against most hydrodynamic principles, just like the stealth fighter went against airodynamic principles, it looks like it would try to dive under huge waves encountered at sea, instead of riding over them... If this didn't try to sink it, it would definitely stop its forward progress cold... This looks to be a fairweather boat...
On 10 April 2014, the USS Donald Cook entered the waters of the Black Sea and on 12 April a Russian Su-24 tactical bomber flew over the vessel triggering an incident that, according to several media reports, completely demoralized its crew, so much so that the Pentagon issued a protest [1].
The USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) is a 4th generation guided missile destroyer whose key weapons are Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, and capable of carrying nuclear explosives. This ship carries 56 Tomahawk missiles in standard mode, and 96 missiles in attack mode.
The US destroyer is equipped with the most recent Aegis Combat System. It is an integrated naval weapons systems which can link together the missile defense systems of all vessels embedded within the same network, so as to ensure the detection, tracking and destruction of hundreds of targets at the same time. In addition, the USS Donald Cook is equipped with 4 large radars, whose power is comparable to that of several stations. For protection, it carries more than fifty anti-aircraft missiles of various types.
Meanwhile, the Russian Su-24 that buzzed the USS Donald Cook carried neither bombs nor missiles but only a basket mounted under the fuselage, which, according to the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta [2], contained a Russian electronic warfare device called Khibiny.
As the Russian jet approached the US vessel, the electronic device disabled all radars, control circuits, systems, information transmission, etc. on board the US destroyer. In other words, the all-powerful Aegis system, now hooked up - or about to be - with the defense systems installed on NATO’s most modern ships was shut down, as turning off the TV set with the remote control.
The Russian Su-24 then simulated a missile attack against the USS Donald Cook, which was left literally deaf and blind. As if carrying out a training exercise, the Russian aircraft - unarmed - repeated the same maneuver 12 times before flying away.
After that, the 4th generation destroyer immediately set sail towards a port in Romania.
Since that incident, which the Atlanticist media have carefully covered up despite the widespread reactions sparked among defense industry experts, no US ship has ever approached Russian territorial waters again.
According to some specialized media, 27 sailors from the USS Donald Cook requested to be relieved from active service.
Vladimir Balybine - director of the research center on electronic warfare and the evaluation of so-called "visibility reduction" techniques attached to the Russian Air Force Academy - made the following comment:
"The more a radio-electronic system is complex, the easier it is to disable it through the use of electronic warfare."
A destroyer that would take on a battlecruiser? One of the 2 Battleships designations? The one oversized DD that was stripped of her missiles?
Would make a nice target practice for 15' guns
Another text to speech program. Because reading it aloud yourself is so hard.
Another case of Let's spend more for less.
This Ship needs Dazzle Camouflage too. You can't jam binoculars, but you can fool the eye! :-)
I refuse to watch and listen to the worst computer-generated audio
That is absolutely the sickest boat ever.
Yeah I'm not buying it. After everything I've read about the Dumwalt I'd be very surprised if it was ever sent into a situation where it may have to defend itself. The fact that there was originally supposed to be 32 and this was ultimately reduced to just 3 ships says far more than can ever be said here. Of course that's not so say it can't play a role. It could always be used as ahhhh ummmm......sorry I got nothing.
They only made one the rest are cancelled now and its being towed to a scrap yard to be taken apert for it material for the new ship thats coming out
What would happen if it quit collecting coffee grounds and actually deployed with a battle group?
Very good ship, Uncle Sam
Artem Ryapolov your in a fantasy world, hopefully you have nothing to do with procurement
Then China deploys an army of containerships, zumwalt immediately crap its pants: go away~ don't you know that I have missile pods on the outside!? Don't wrack me!
This video is very weak... You really only ask, who is the stealthest?
brit boy it's not that stealthy if we know about it
That's like me and you, you have a .500 magnum revolver. I have my .38 Spcl. revolver. But I'm quieter and can get the jump on you. Your big gun is useless if I attack first because chances are, I'll hit my target.
Pretty much whoever is spotted first and engages has the upper hand
Yup. Ther is still a "if this works" question.
Why do I always think ironclad when I see this ship? Lol
that's easy, zumwalt sinks
A destroyer without weapons... even the guns are not ready
Zumwalt is an expensive joke...sort of like the first 200 Lightning IIs. Our military and it’s procurement system have become a national liability.
+J. Wilson
How so? Elaborate beyond these simplistic claims.
A U.S. Air Force official tells Popular Mechanics that, "the Air Force plans to upgrade all aircraft in question to Software Block 3F."
J. Wilson you don’t know how it will fight, so I suggest keeping your mouth shut until we use it.
Can you supply any links? Same with you Spooky where the navy has said this because i've watched lightning II's development and last i heard it's being tested still but from what i hear as of the Red Flag Wargames where it racked up a 20:1 kill ratio only losing 1 plane it's doing quite well. As well as being able to function as a secondary command and control asset based on the fact it's onboard computers where creating real time work simulations of the battle flow and was able work against them. Last i read there was also and article going along the lines of something like. Wargames are too easy for the Lightning II's. So i'm just curious about what information you both are looking. I didnt much like this plane either but so far the results that 1 trillion dollar plus funded seems to be working out. Oh yeah and lets not forget F-15s, F-16s BVR shot limit is 30 miles these shoot BVR 160 mile with their advance computers and avionics. They were so valuable in Red Flag based on their computers compiling data that legacy craft like F-16s, F-15s and F-22s request some of them stay on to do just that and only that after they ran out of munitions. Hardly sounds like junk. But have to wait to see more. I'm still on the fence. Especially now that the DOD is ordering 2,456 of them
I mean . . . it's a game of air superiority. I personally think we should start updating aircraft carriers instead of making Destroyers. An aircraft carrier can have all these updated gun systems also AND have the ability to launch, a MAXIMUM hold, of 180 (yeah *one hundred eighty* ) F/A-18 Hornets. Most carriers only carry 60 odd aircraft but can accommodate MANY more. So in my head it's like this.
- A destroyer that literally screams "I'm over here" just like a Carrier would with 3-4 main guns, and two defensive/offensive vessels
OR
- A carrier that has 5-6 main guns, 12-13 auxiliary armaments, a full battle ready crew of Marines, 60+ aircraft that have their own armament that could conduct QRF, Scouting, and attack missions; all whilst still having 6-10 offensive/defensive deployable vessels from water bay lock.
Gunna go with the Aircraft Carrier. Just a wiser option in defensive and offensive capabilities.
Like Lenin said, "Quantity has a Quality all its own." Its y these POS Frigates have been canceled & more Arleigh Burkes are to be built.
These aren't frigates, you are thinking of the littoral combat ships which have have matured into decent ships. This is a very large stealth destroyer.
What if: some nuke the water not targeting the ship and a huge wave of water crosses by?
This is what would happen if the USS Zumwalt fought a Russian battlecruiser...
Russian ship sinks
THE END!
No, it is not the end. Then the second Russian cruiser has a target lock because they can build ten cruisers for the price of one Zumwalt. This is how the Russians took out German Tiger tanks with T34/85 tanks AND WON THE WAR!
@@georgeeverette3912 yes 10 t34/85 vs tiger
Problem zumwalt has 0 ammo for it and no misslies all it can do is ram and sink plus they only made one and cancelled the rest of them and the one built is now headed to to be scraped for the new warships coming up
SPOILERS!!!
Boys i think you missunderstood 2 things:
1. "Battlecruiser" are not battle cruiser, they're a underclass of a battleship.
2. The zum is huges and slow for a destroyer ,and as history show, slow and big targets are the way to go for battleship.
Bonus: The zum dont even have a single missile in the end so....
Why not create a cruiser that can jammed an enemy control system even to the minutest engines. A minute of uncontrollability is already a huge difference.
Looks a bit like something from the civil war ( not sure about the grey colour )))
Jim Clarke that's exactly what I thought. The ironclads.

Yes ! A monitor !
Looks a lot like one of those old flatirons, the ones before the electric models, I mean
@bob bobo monitor was a good fighting ship, It just wasn't sea worthy. Had they not left the ballistic shells on the dock. They could have sunk the maramack.
Had they known how to use sloped armor. They would have been immune to Confederate guns. In return if Maramack knew they could up the powder change of they're guns they could have sank the monitor.

I found those M16s the most funniest. Looked as if toys with that bluish camo. 😂😂😂😂 And I had thought this video to be some kind of stimulation but🙄🙄
Ok 1 hit on the brige and the hole ship cant fire or move or 1 hit on the Generator and the railguns cant fire
?
I'm curious how you know rayo kill is Jewish?
Also, he must have never served aboard a warship. If he did he would know that all shipboard controls have backups and local controls, plus damage control and non power requiring voice communications throughout the ship.
There is no radar in the world that can detect a Zumwalt until its to late. The Zumi would have launched it anti-ship attack long before any Russian or Chinese ship knew they had even been detected. The only kind of shots that Russian or Chinese ships will get off against a Zumwalt are "bearing only solution" shots. Basically they'll shoot their anti-ship missiles in the direction they see the Zumwalt's missiles coming from, if they have enough time after detecting the incoming missile strike. If the Zumwalt is firing stealthy missiles, they will not be detected until the final few seconds of flight and they would not have a chance to fire any anti-ship missiles back at the Zumi. If the inbounds are non-stealthy anti-ship missiles, they'll detect them as they come over the horizon approx 12nm and that will give the ship 1 minute to program and fire as many anti-ship missiles back at the Zumi as they can, I would estimate between 6 and 12 missiles would be successfully fired and that isn't close to as many as are needed to overwhelm the Zumwalt's defensive systems, but there is such a thing as a lucky shot too. If a missile were to leak through and actually hit a Zumi, of course it would kill many sailors and cause much damage, but the ship would likely survive. No navy does damage control better than the US navy.
"If a missile were to leak through and actually hit a Zumi, of course it would kill many sailors and cause much damage, but the ship would likely survive"
good sir have you ever seen a P-700 Granit? (AKA SS-N-19 "Shipwreck") a single hit from those and it's game over for the zumwalt. the P-700 is so large it looks like a fighter jet with 750kg warhead compared to the harpoon's 200kg. the russian battlecruiser has 20+ of those missiles and it only needs one to decimate the zumi. A 1v1 end up zumi loosing. A strike group and coordinated attack must be employed to counter the russian Kirov-class battlecuiser
sTinger Can't hit what you can't see. The Russians will be hit before they even know there is a missile.
By the was.. Kirov is 1980s technology.. They had them out when I was in navy.. It was fun watching them hit target barges with missiles through a periscope..
I’ll take the Missouri
good luck, you'll need it
Drones and railgun totally changed war at sea. .
New era of techno combat
pmay222 pretty sure railguns have changed nothing, especially when those won't even begin deployment for another 10 yrs.
Mark Doldon the fact we even know of railguns tells me they have it sorted, its US thats 10 years behind the tech. . How l8ng they have stealth bombers before one crashed revealing their hand, even then they had mkii batwing version already. .
We have seen stuff in the sky at night that is unbelievably fast like u could not imagine, they are way ahead in the game
What would happen if the USS Zumwalt fought a Russian battlecruiser?
It will join fleet of subs in a few minutes and entertain a fish )
It's doubtful the Russian battleship would ever detect a Zumwalt, so its doubtful the Russian would ever get a shot off that had any chance of hitting a Zumi. You can't hit what you can't see. This video said one thing that is true in every kind of modern combat; the side that sees the other side first and gets off the first shot usually wins
eddie money the amount of stupidity you just said is off the charts
swigity swooty Any when you think about it, all the countries that have these brand new ship designs brag about them such as the Germans and Japanese hyping up their new ships (bismark and yamato), yet they have a knack for being one of the largest targets in the water and no matter how much they tried to hide these prized ships, the enemy persistently hunted them down. If this ship was ever in combat, it would be one of the first targets and I would guarantee you that it wouldnt be hard to find with Russias technological advances the are coming up with.
eddie money If you listened to the video, the Russian radar, although powerful, is a neon sign to ships especially designed to stealth classifications. Having worked on radar systems anything (Including both ships) can be detected. Having fought in Vietnam it's usually young stupid kids who've never fought who brag about "this can defeat that." How brilliantly stupid anyone is who wants to see the next war.
Unless they have the best air defense systems , like Russia . It's one thing to launch your missiles , but it's another thing to get them there , and Russian air defense systems are far ahead of anything the US has . Same applies to your wonderful stealth aircraft . Their missiles still need to penetrate the Russian air defense systems .. . .
Actually, It is not who can see the other first, it's who can get a missile past the defense of the other ship first.
All the missiles in the world won’t matter if none of them get through. The AGM-158c is a stealth missile, but stealth does not mean it is not detectable. At short range, it will still be tracked and engaged by the 8 AK-630 guns, the 6 Kashtan systems, Osa and Tor missiles of the Kirov. The problem for the missile is that the speed is subsonic that means a longer time for the defense systems to work. So far the information about the AGM-158c doesn't indicate that it has some new novel way to get past all that.
The SS-N-19/P is still a more capable missile in raw stats; speed, evasiveness and range. It does not need for the Kirov to have a radar lock on the target, the missiles work as a group to find targets, prioritize threats and assessing the needed number per target. Terminal speed is over Mach 1.5 giving less time for defenses to work.
The Volcano munition for the 155mm is great but its nothing new, guided munitions are already in use.
if you disagree, plz post a sensible argument...
Or we could have health care.
Nah
I will take the ship since the health care sucks
Jack Fenton Ain’t that the truth!!
Hyperbole
The government can’t balance their spending (like the rest of us have to do) but you’re ok with them being in charge of our health?
I have a feeling the budget and money spent on the Zumwalt was a smoke screen for something far more devious and nasty which we’ll never see the end result of. It’s just something ‘advanced appearing’ as the Zumwalt HAD to be constructed to make it appear the funds were properly being allocated.
It goes back to the the history of the Air Force-we didn’t know about the U2 and SR71 until it’s later years as it was nearing retirement; same goes for the F117 and Aurora. We used Raptor drones in the early/mid 1990s to track Osama Bin Laden, but this was when they were still strictly reconnaissance and unarmed.
The US’ advanced technology isn’t publicized until its obsolete. Whatever is publicized about the Zumwalt is already obsolete in comparison to what we do NOT know about.
If these two ships fighting each other somebody fucked up their navigational beacon
This is so cool, with all items storing inside the ship.. The angle side helps deflect raar incoming up vs back to surface ship it was sent from.
Zumwalt is so Nerfed it would have a hard time engaging any surface combatant. Maybe in a few years when they actually make ammunition for the guns
Zumwalt is not even meant to battle a kirov or slava class. It is meant to replace the Iowa-cass in offshore support.
Both ships will dock for repair and both navy crew will go grab a beer together. That’s pretty much what I’m getting from this video.
Now they just need to figure out how they are gonna get ammo to the 6 inch guns on the Zumwalt lol.
This video has great close ups of the Zumwalt
A surface combatants vessel that opted to be stealthy rather than robust and to carry out the surface combatants roles where it's impossible to avoid combat completely altogether. Paradox.
Waiting for the Chinese to copy paste this design 😹
Zumwalt is a destroyer. It would never be in a position to go toe to toe with a battlecruiser. It would be amongst a fleet of escort ships that would take on the battlecruiser, not the least of which likely being aircraft from an aircraft carrier. Destroyers attack land targets.
Of course, The zumwalt would win because its modernized while the Russian Kirov Battle cruiser was made in 1980. The Zumwalt has advanced weapon systems and functions on it.
The information I get in these videos is automatically discredited when I’m told by a robot.
40 seconds of verbal analysis and 10 minutes of feel-good pictures.
What’s weird is the zumwalt was made by Maine that every one I know from a different state does not know Maine well it was made in bath Maine to be exact
I just watched the last Star War movie, and nothing more appealing and technological might than this new ship. Very amazed and proud to be an American.
The Zumwalt is reported to have a radar cross-section similar to a fishing vessel. However, radars optimized for surface search should be capable of detecting even a fishing vessel at a couple of hundred miles (depending upon sea state).
of course you can detect a fishing vessel, but even the Russian navy wouldn't hit every fishing vessel from a distance on a public sea route like the Black-sea. So this ship can blend into the normal traffic in the Baltic or Black sea and Russia would have to make extensive checks to find the "wrong" fishing vessel before getting hit by the ship.
Right now, this is simply not the case. Even the US navy would probably get ambushed by this ship and would have to defend themself against incoming attacks, before intercepting this sole destroyer. This is a threat on the danger-onion.
I would like to elaborate on the problem, that in the future we will see more small scale wide-range drones on the sea to cover the sea from these stealth attacks and the Zumwalt class is lacking in their air-game and can not fulfil this main job of the destroyer class, that Zumwalt was meant to replace. I suspect this includes heavily these small air drone units, that remain to be a problem in Ukraine.
Of course the Russian fleet couldnt defend themself against a sole modern US ship. They suck in operational strength. Even land-based missiles can sink their main ships, because they are out of date and/or badly equiped and maintained.
It'll be a floating prison 10 years from now
What is not mentioned is what happened to two of our destroyers/frigates over near Korea. They were both hit with a sophisticated type of EMF that crippled them and allowed one of them to get T-Boned by a 'freighter' that probably had the equipment on it. No mention of that other than the usual relieving of the Skippers even though it wasn't their fault that they were given inferior equipment.
They dont mention that there is no ammunition for the guns. Apparently its so expensive they arent making any.
Already not looking so good being the bow got put on upside down.
People have such a bias against the Zumwalt it broke down once so, the Nimitz class aircraft carrier which has served us well for a long time had major obstacles to climb and it had many hiccups in it's infancy.
A Zumwalt would get thrashed by a Kirov in single combat. The mission profile of the Zumwalt Class DD is close in support for shore amphibious landings with dual 6 in guns and limited cruise missiles bombardment. It was designed to evade detection from shore based radar and thus be safe from the the majority of anti-shipping missile systems available today.
Kriov battle cruisers are ship killers, plain and simple. They're armored and carry a good array of anti-shipping missiles and heavier guns for close in combat. They carry more helicopters for scouting with a slightly longer loiter time than US Navy ships. They are also equipped with targeting equipment that can guide Kirov's missiles to the target while presenting a minimal target to the Zumwalt. It's highly likely that Kirov would get first shots in an engagement and would be able to absorb more damage due to her armor.
But when do we ever see American ships operating alone in hostile territory. Overall, the US has the numbers and the aircraft advantage which would force the Russian navy to stay at home or be decimated in a suicide attack.
Add to the fact that the zumwalt doesn't have any shells and that the anti ship variant tomahawk missiles were decommissioned for being unreliable.
Also USS Zumwalt is still detectable it just appears to be a small boat.
Also also I'm pretty sure it's design is prone to capsizing if it takes on water, say if it gets hit by a missile.
Put those together and you have a glorified yacht with no way to attacking versus an outdated but still effective warship.
I'm pretty sure that even the USS Constitution would beat USS Zumwalt in a battle
@Kill of duty Doom punch she's actually quite large, a true cruiser hull compared to the Burkes. What confused me about the Zumwalts is that the Navy was on the cusp of developing a funky functional rail gun and laser defense systems that could have been deployed on the Zumwalts had their construction been delayed for another decade.
@@Bigweave74 I was referring to it's size on radar since I assume an engagement would probably happen beyond the horizon
For why the navy rushed the zumwalt is because they desperately wanted to replace the ever increasingly outdated Burke class destroyers. The problem is that they fell into the classic blunder of this is new so it must be better.
I can't say that I agree with you on your last point. Right now the railguns are about as useful as the special guns currently on the zumwalts. Quite frankly I'm unsure whether railguns will end up being practical in the future or if it will be like the zumwalt's guns and be a massive waste of time and money. Only time will tell, and rushing it is exactly what lead to the zumwalts.
I wish US Defense News would get a narrator that can read above third grade level.
Wow the Zumwalt is a formidable looking Destroyer!
Is it me, or do these ships look like the Civil War ironclads Monitor and Merrimack ?
It's an overpriced lemon. Three ships. No weapons (yet). $9 billion.
USN procurement at its finest...
Somethin' they aint' tellin' ya' those guns are not normal guns. They are Magnetic Guns.
I would not be too sure. The profile of this ship is minimalistic. And most of it is well protected. Reduce the surface hatches and devellop gull launch doors at the rear end. She could be faster than world war 2 destroyers. These could reach 38 knits. Flank speed for these ships could be 10 to 15 knots faster. I am - of course - making a inspired guess!
They should add a torpedo launcher
The Zumwalt engineering returned to proven shapes and lines like old civil war Ironclads so that cannonballs bounce off.
