This is the only episode of Movie Fights I have ever watched. Hearing all the tea from Adum about how the show is run, and seeing Adum react to his younger self, is fascinating.
Didn’t know adum was on movie fights, this is hilarious. Him giving these answers would have made it really funny if he did more. I still follow Dan Murrell also he’s great.
I used to really love Movie Fights, it's how I got to discover a lot of interesting creators on RUclips. Looking back at some episodes, I'm surprised at how I endured them. People like Dan Murrell and Alicia Malone were worth watching for, but most of the time it's just people wrapped up in their nostalgia and bullshit arguments . I'm glad to know I've grown as well as a film and content consumer/enjoyer. Also, I still think you did a good job defending Brazil. Genuinely great choice!
Fascinating learning the behind the scenes for this show. Never took these debates seriously they were always at their best when the crew leaned into that (i.e. Dan's Upstate New York Rant). That being said, there were some genuinely great moments (i.e. Roth Cornett accurately pitching/predicting Wandavision).
I remember watching this when it first came out! I was a big Movie Fights fan and even at the time I could see how different Adum’s opinions and vibe was to all of the regular contestants. I also recall The Flick Pick saying he was misinformed just as Adum was with his Pokémon video. Flick got his own Screen Junkies show and had at least “signed” or started filming, potentially even finished the entire series, before he knew it would all be only for Screen Junkies Plus subscribers.
This is so nostalgic for me, though cringe at fact used to watched screen junkies so much back then but remember watching this exact video and led me to watching YMS regularly as am now very grateful for. Though feel so old knowing was 9yrs ago now 😬 joining Adam in twinkdeath 😢
“You’ve heard the pitches, why is yours the best?” is such a backwards question, it’d be so much more genuine and interesting if they workshopped the pitches together instead of just blindly having to say the other ones are bad
I remember that there was an episode where three people were arguing over which Star Wars movie from the original trilogy was the best one and it was really obvious that they had assigned the opinions beforehand.
They were the product of their time. Blockbusters was booming at this period,Marvel, Star Wars and “geek” culture in general. People don’t care about moves right now.
Commenting before watching: I regularly think of that video and always wonder what the fuck was Adum scribbling so aggressively on that piece of paper 😂 Hope he mentions that. If that even was the same appearance I'm thinking about? Was he in more than one episode? Anyway, thanks for the vids Olivia!❤
I honestly thought Adum still talked like that off-camera. A lot of performers have a "TV voice" that they use. It's interesting hearing wrestlers talk in interviews and they sound nothing like they do on TV. Interesting that it isn't the case with Adum. Also, I watched Movie Fights from time to time, but mainly when Andy was the host. For whatever reason, Andy was the only one who actually judged it on the merit of their argument. Other hosts would just judge based on the choice, making the debate mostly irrelevant.
God I love how non-soy Adum is. Just such an unusual thing among online film critics, so I'm glad we get to hear from his unique perspective on this kinda stuff
I just realized this must have been around the same time he recorded the Gun Safety for Women thing, same shirt and same month of 2015 haha *"Wow, hey guys"*
Man, I hope Adum is having a good holiday season so far- he deserves it. RIP Scoot, the man, the myth, the legend. A great guy- never forgotten, always remembered fondly.
I've never cared for Screen Junkies. I hated their main show with Hal Rudnick, although I did think Honest Trailers was funny. Also I like how Adam clowned on these guys for their 80's nostalgia and then went with a Rick and Morty answer, which is very much a 2010's thing.
I recognized Mike Carlson as one of the 3 co-hosts of my favorite show, Podcast: The Ride! It’s definitely worth listening to if you love theme parks like Disney World, Universal, or other weird themed entertainment
To add insult to injury, After they wrongfully terminated Andy Signore for no reason, the people at Screen Junkies PROMISED to make all the SJ Plus content free. Instead they deleted all of it..........
Watching this after watching Andrew Garfield in the criterion closet also talking about Brazil means I know what I need to get next time there's a criterion sale at barnes and noble
The format of this podcast is absurd. Like the only response anyone should have to anyone having another favorite movie from that year is "Okay. Good for you." Like how do you even argue against someone having a different favorite than you even as a game? The defense of "Well you don't like those things but I do" trumps literally anything you could say, so technically everyone should get a point each round or no one. So dumb lol. No surprise that this channel was managed by a large corporation as Adam said, this is clearly from the mind of someone going "how can we talk about movies from a year but keep engagement up". On that being said, I will illogically refuse to acknowledge that 2015 was a long time ago. It wasn't. It was 3 years ago. It always will be.
I'd genuinely love a sincere version of movie fights, if anyone knows of anyone doing that. Like just a group of people genuinely arguing and discussing a movie topic.
That's the thing that put me off movie fights, they say "it's all about the arguments" but so often the strongest and most compelling arguments lose, and throwaway answers win
Let's not forget, screen junkies were one of many that redlettermedia made fun of in their nerd crew videos. They were exactly the fans that loved only fan service in movies
I remember watching this video and thinking "this was good, I should check out some other Movie Fights episodes" and then all of them were soy cringe shit.
I remember watching that episode and thinking Adam is out of place here just because the question they asked you expect a more mainstream answers if that make sense
"I'm not a bullshitter. Every time I got in trouble, it was because I said something that I believed." Rarely have I felt a greater sense of kinship.
When you're surrounded by bullshitters, it's very important for them to throw the honest boy under the bus.
