Jim, ordered my TD H3 tow-pack in the middle of April, they said it will be delivered in the middle of June, hum a long time but with the excellent reviews of this H3 I am okay with it. So far, I am overly impressed with Tidradio customer support. Main reason, I purchased the two-pack then a few weeks later Amazon showed the TD H3 with four batteries or $5.00 more than my original order. Makes sense to have the four-battery kit, thus I contacted Amazon to cancel my order an purchase the four battery kit. Amazon contacted Tidradio, Tidradio contacted me asking I do not cancel my order, they would send me two extra batteries at zero cost. Wow, the other day two TD H3 batteries arrived! Now I must wait for the original order for the two-pack to arrive. In my mind, Tidradio provides amazingly good customer services. Your explanation of their firmware upgrades is outstanding, Tidradio is firing on all cylinders!
I just want to praise you and your delivery in all of your videos. Your style is very easy to follow, and you dont talk down to your followers. I have learned so much from following you. Please keep it up. Thanks
Thanks for all your informative videos, just received my TD H3 today and was wondering what the new features were that weren't in the manual. I had no problems upgrading the firmware to the newest version, today. I'm pretty much new to GMRS, but I like having all the other options to listen to and keep up with what's going on around the area. My neighbor is a HAM, so I get help from him on technical issues.
Nice features this little cheap radio, I really like it mine cause are compact and a lot of goodies and now can retire from filed my old and trusted Standard C520 with over 20 years works (hey it have wireless copy and still rocks!)
@GadgetTalk , would you want to check for me on what frequency the copy data is actually transmitted please ... (use a frequencycounter or VNA) ... if you can insert a power-meter i'd like to know on what power also.
I bought a pair of these, and they were terrible. One had defective LEDs. Both needed to have their squelch set to maximum so as to be able to scan at all without noise stopping them at every channel. And both stock antennas came with SWRs that were unacceptable. One was 3.5, and the other was 20. Yes, 20 SWR.
I'm trying to use USB-C cable... computer recognizes it, but when I hold down the ptt button and power it on, it just goes to the normal radio screen and the updater does not push the update to the radio so I am guessing you MUST use the programming cable that plugs into the headset jack (which is stupid). If I am wrong, please, someone, correct me and tell me how to initiate the update via usbc
I successfully updated the firmware using the supplied usb-a/usb-c cable. Make sure you click on the COM tab even tho there may be just one port to choose from. My first attempt failed but second attempt worked fine after clicking the COM tab.
I think mine is defective. It transmits fine on simplex 2m, but I can't trigger a repeater practically across the street. I'm using the same exact configuration that works on 3 other radios.
Since you have other radios, set one to receive on the repeaters input frequency and with its uplink tone. If that other radio doesn't receive and the green light doesn't come on, your H3 is set wrong or is broken. If the green led illuminates, but you get no words, your uplink code is wrong.
@@GadgetTalk4U Thanks for the idea. I tried it and the 2nd radio does receive the signal. I know the CTCSS is right, so I don't know why it's not tripping the repeater.
@@GadgetTalk4U More info: It just tripped the repeater. I heard the response on my 2nd radio, but not on the H3. And now it's not tripping the repeater again. This is such a weird problem.
@@GadgetTalk4U Update. If I trip the repeater with my 2nd radio, I hear the response on the H3. But if I try to trip it with the H3, nothing on the H3 or 2nd radio. I've contacted support.
Can it display channel name / label & frequency SIMULTANEOUSLY? The upper end & Euro mkt Baofeng radios & clones call it "display sync". If not - hard pass.
I like to keep the same info on my H8 as my H3’s. Does the H8 have updated firmware open up CB band also? Has TID programmed the PTT C button to scan yet?
@@GadgetTalk4U Finally figured it out. Had to register on the website first which was not easy. Clicked the Facebook link but found no registration code, tried email and that didn't work. Finally figured out you had to start a messenger chat on their Facebook page to get the registration code.

The list from the upgrade I include in the video include a couple. The big one was wireless copy discussed at about 5:30 in the video. Cheers.
I need to upgrade my firmware. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Jim.

What is the difference between the TD-H3 Ham and the TD-H3 GMRS? What is difference between the GMRS, HAM, and Normal option in the hidden option?
Did you test spectral purity or power output on the 1.25m band?
Sorry, no.

Good job with the review. Too bad you can't update the firmware via Bluetooth.
In order to update the TD-H3 firmware is a CH340 or FTDI cable needed or is a USB/USBc cable appropriate? (confused noobie here)

A USB-C cable cannot be used to update the firmware.

It should have come with two antennas.

Yes. Examine the display in my other video.
Which antenna is that? Kine doesn't look like that.
Its the one that came with it. Beyond that, I don't know.
I really enjoyed the video,! I recently bought one, and I appreciate the information, great stuff! keep up the good work. 73's WA2TWF

H3 to H8 info is probably best done in Chirp. A little cutting and pasting, though. PTT C on the H3 is currently short = FM, long = NOAA WX.
Latest firmware I am seeing on their website is Feb 29th.
I just looked on walkietalkiesoftware.com and both the GMRS and Ham firmware versions are April. Not sure where you are looking. Good luck
