Got a mad amount of respect for keeping your traditions alive and keepign a connection not just to what was, but to what is. Tradition is only valuable if it connects us to our ancestors. If there is no connection then it is worthless. Stay awesome.
The Rickest Rick it's a Samoan fire knife dance those are Samoan weapons known as war clubs my ancestors were warriors, but now we've dance with it with fire**
To be honest, in retrospect, all the Polynesian Cultural Center vids I've enjoyed have been, to some degree, about connecting the traditional to the modern day. (Can you smell what the (actual, literal) rock is cooking?) But this was an awesome connection video: the connections formed from dance & music are maybe only second to language. Here you've broken it all down and drawn a thread through the generations. Fantastic work to all the performers here!
It was probably done on purpose. It's just some extra fuel on his vest/chest. I know a lot of performers will do that on purpose for the effect, but he could have also just accidently brushed his chest against his knife.
this was so cool, hope to see this video go viral...old traditional way mixed with new style of fire knife clearly shows FA SAMOA is PURE through all generations!!! Great Video!! like they say got to give respect to get respect!!
I don't usually write comment on videos that I watch but this one, it was purely amazing! How the video was made, the performances, the message, the music.... its 10 out of 10! Interesting in the beginning, then you get entertained as you keep watching then sweet and touching at the end. Good job! Hope to see Kap on June 14 at the PCC for family vacation. We watched his videos.
Last time I was at PCC was Apr 2010. My next trip, the PCC will be on the top of my list to visit again. We bought the VIP tickets and they were worth every penny.
@@liu_hou_yu lol, thanks for the good laugh..😂👏🏻 I guess, the Samoans would be the Fire Benders of Polynesia..now jus gotta figure out the other elements of some of the other Polynesia islands. New Zealand Maori could prolly be the Air benders becuz they are big in doing the Hongi(the breathing greeting)..Hawaiians can be the Water benders, since they were surfers(and creators of it)..and Tahiti prolly could be the Earth benders, becuz of their statues,idk..still tryna figure which should take the Earth nation,lol..
StayHIGH Cloud9Muzik - Yeah this is filmed in the north shore of Oahu but, he's talking about the fire knife dance in general, its originally from the Samoan culture.
I appreciate this video so much. The elder and younger generation coming together. It can be a difficult thing in traditional cultures. I am of Saami decent and sometimes we see a rift between elders and younger people putting their own spin on things. Thanks for posting this wonderful short film.
Who is on your marketing team?? Every video featuring this guy is fantastic. They are funny, smart, interesting. Polynesian Cultural is KILIING it. Keep it up
Love the video reminds me of my home because I have to go to away to college thank you for reminding me of my home just love the video again for respect for you in the fire knifeteam
