In The Lost Boys comics, the sax man actually comes in at one point to help kill vampires!! Also, lots of the flying shots were made by filming on a zip line and reversing the footage!! 🥰💛 So happy you guys covered this movie!
David's death always makes me tear up when I rewatch this film. I'm not sure if it's just a projection thing, me reading too much into it, but it feels like his makeup completely changes - like, he suddenly looks way younger in death, as if he's returned to how he was before he was turned, and it kind of hits home that the boys were really just boys changed by a much older man into a 'family'. The poverty of the area, its status as a murder capital, kind of suggests these kids probably didn't have a great life beforehand, and rather than ever escaping properly they just wound up dying because of a much older man who offered them a new life but couldn't ever protect them properly or deliver on anything beyond bringing them together. They go after them because they literally killed the 'baby' of the turned vampires, took one of the family away - so it was less maliciously motivated, more them seeking retribution for the family. Max didn't even care that they died - he immediately moves onto changing the boys and their mother while David is literally lying dead for a second time feet away. You're definitely meant to read into the Lost Boys, Peter Pan connection, about creating your own version of an - admittedly very violent - family, who in some academic's readings literally died and that's why he never grows old. And I think there's a lot that went into the whole production, especially surrounding David as Peter and Michael as Wendy, maybe? I definitely think Max could stand in as a threatening replacement for Hook, and this desire for a family is something Peter both craves and admonishes in equal parts. Anyway, I love this film!
I think lucy is meant to be the wendy since max said his boys needed a mom and thats why he had david turn michael. I guess that makes max the peter pan/hook of the group

Tim Capello is a legend. He's such a nice guy and regularly performs on synthwave tracks like Dark All Day by Gunship. Regarding Michael being pulled out the window, I always thought it was him coming into his powers and not having full control of the flight that the other vampires have.
Someone recommended Dark All Day on a different RUclips video one time and I ended up checking out all the Gunship stuff anf loving it! But yeah, Tim Capello is awesome and still looks absolutely amazing!
Fun fact: Andrew Lloyd Webber liked this movie so much he asked Schumacher to do Phantom of the Opera! You can determine for yourself if it was a good choice 😅
I think one of my favourite things about this movie is all the gay or queer undertones and subtext in the story and characters' actions which adds a whole new meaning to the film. I actually wrote a whole paper for school about queer films and included the Lost Boys as an example of queer subtext and how it does classify as a queer film. Also I went into vampires themselves and how they have queer undertones or subtext in their own mythos. Overall its my favourite horror movie of all time and can confirm, watching it as a young teen does make it stick longer (thanks grandma for showing it to me lol)
41:21 There is a really funny behind the scenes picture of Kiefer Sutherland smoking a cigarette in between takes while still hanging upside down, I love how casual he is about it lol
If it’s any help, Lost Boys has a second pizzeria ten minutes from their first location called True Romance, which primarily sells by the slice, so that might have been what the server meant. Also, just in case anyone was planning to go, it did burn half down about a month ago.
That actually does possibly inform the way she said that specific sentence (go to "the other" pizza place) so thanks, I didn't know that. Real shame to hear about the fire, the place was awesome overall.
In the Novel, David actually survived and came after Michael and Star again. The sequels are decent... 2nd Movie focuses on Feldman helping Michael & Sam's cousins, 3rd Movie focuses on Feldman trying to stop a group of Vampires, using their Blood as a new drug at raves.
I cannot believe you guys had not seen this until 2018. This is the movie that made me a horror fan. My favorite movie of all time on most days. It brings me right back to being a kid. The first third of this movie is so focused on vibes and aesthetic and its done in such a way that it doesn't feel overdone or breaks immersion. I love it so much.
ok according to Google, 'Michael' is said 114 times during the film. Which is impressive. Also Tim Cappello's 'I Still Believe' is a bop and everyone should give the full song a chance.

EDITED FOR CORRECTIONS MADE... The reason Corey Feldman was doing that tough-guy voice, was because if you think of the era that he was growing up in at the time, people like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kurt Russell, etc, were very big icons in the action genre. So it's possible he was just putting on The tough-guy voice because he was getting into that tough teenager persona. Every scrawny teenager wanted to be kind of a tough guy. He may have also been doing that voice just because it would make his character kind of mimic the toughness of the other frog brother.
Ahhhh! This is a dream come true. My grandma and I used to watch this movie together. We didn’t get along much but bonding over movies was a sure fire way to have us both content. This is bringing back such good memories.
The vampires in Twilight are sparkly because their skin is essentially supposed to be like granite or some kind of stone; it's less human skin and closer to a diamond. It is sadly not a reference to the glittery blood in Lost Boys (I think a costume designer or makeup artist added glitter to make the vampires seem more ethereal).
I met Tim Capello (sexy sax player) over the summer. He was so infectiously positive and nice. He performed “I Still Believe” at Joe Bob’s Jamboree. It was spiritual. He was also Tina Turners touring sax player.
Fun fact, there’s a sequel comic book set after this movie where David is revealed to be alive and the sax guy and grandpa are revealed to be part of a secret society of vampire hunters in Santa Carla, the Sax Guy is oily because he’s covered in holy oils so vampires can’t touch him, he goes by “The Believer” and it’s fuckin awesome
Fun fact: when David grabbed Sam's legs and the frog brothers pull Sam i to the light and David's hand sets on fire and a tear runs down his face, this was actually because the contact lenses that kiefer was wearing were so uncomfortable it made him shed tears
Aww, I'm so glad Chelsea got to have such a nice experience with someone she was excited to meet! Also, I was absolutely rocked by yall saying you didn't watch until 2018 and that you didn't like it
The look of disappointment on James' face when he said he forgot to check if he shit black is so relatable. You'll just have to go back and have that pizza again 😂
lost boys will ALWAYS be my fave, i recently turned 19, and my friend got a video of Billy Wirth, (who played Dwayne, the vampire with long dark hair) saying happy birthday to me
I was a little terrified to watch this podcast ep because I remember you guys saying you didn't like it and this is one of my favorite vampire movies, I'm very glad you've changed pace on it a bit. I was so terrified.
Hey Guys! Another fun fact.. Not only is Jason Miller (aka Father Karas) Jason Patric's father but he is also the father of the little kid from Near Dark that you mentioned Joshua John Miller who played Homer. He and Jason Patric are half-brothers. Also, Jackie Gleason's daughter is Jason Patric's mother
You can bless a pool of water for baptism and if you go by Castlevania rules you can bless the ocean but the area blessed will lessen with the ebb and flow of the tides until it is no longer holy. I think they added the holy watcher to the bathtub of water and had the garlic there to add to the potency just to be sure that the holy water had not been weakened due to diluting it. My friends and I had an interesting thought when we were kids that it was the first time Max had seen himself in a reflection for years and that added to his shock when the lights came back on. With Max it seemed it wanted a family so I am guessed he turned David and then he turned the rest. The sequels are an example of diminishing returns but they do try to give an original take on idea of how a newer generation would treat vampire abilities. St. Elmo's fire is when a glow is scene around a rod-like object during an atmospheric electromagnetic event such as a thunder and it was thought to be a good omen during sailing which it why the phenomena is named after the patron saint of sailors. I find this movie to be an indoctrination film because if you watched it as a kid as you get older you will see it from the point of view of different characters because I find my self doing that as I watch it through the years. Great podcast as always and glad to have y'all back. P.S. The Inside Of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast has a nice interview with Patric & Sutherland that touched on the Julia Roberts hullabaloo.
If you go by Catholic Church rules GENERALLY there is only one day when priest bless holy water for whole year, but if there is need (like f.e. due to miscalculation it runs out or he wants to make mess in wild and they don't have access to it) priest can get more by blessing any water any time.
You have to meet Kiefer! He is like the nicest dude (Being Canadian maybe helps?). I'll try and make this story short: My sister was working a Con that he was at. It was the end of the day and he had no one in line at that point, so she goes over and asks him if he would be willing to call me up and say hello. He said sure right way as his handler was doing hands motions telling him no. It was the coolest two minutes on the phone I've ever had. He didn't have to tell her yes, but he did and even sent me a signed photo of himself as David and the newest music cd of his at the time. I loved him because of this movie as an actor and genuinely adore him as a human being for just being willing to tell a stranger howdy.
I just watched The Lost Boys for the first time recently and I absolutely loved it. Welcome back, you two! My heart is officially happy again. (Also hearing the story of how you guys met Damon Albarn totally made me cry, what an amazing experience!!!)
I graduated HS in May, ‘87. I worked in a video store for two years in college. Took this home on VHS one night after its video release and have been hooked since. I went out the next day and bought the soundtrack on cassette!
I watched this movie sooooo many times as a teen. Besides the fact that the male leads are all so hot, I love the storyline and the mix of horror and humor and just general campiness. This is one of the few movies that I can watch over and over and never get sick of it. It was also one of the very first soundtracks that I ever bought. Cry Little Sister was my favorite!
I may be wrong, but I always figured that Cory Feldman's voice was a reference to the popularity of Rambo, trying to deepen his voice to be like Stallone. Hence the camo, the headband... I think the brothers were big Rambo fans...
Double fun fact is Jason Patrick's Grandfather is Jackie Gleason from The Honeymooners and his brother was the little bro in Teen Witch and went on to write the 2015 horror movie the Final Girls which he was inspired to write by his own Father's, aka Jason Miller, death. Also a Final Girls kill Count would be awesome hint hint!
I'm pretty sure Michael wakes up the next day after his night out with David and everyone. His mom saying "You're out all night, and sleep all day." Isn't meant to show a passage of time, its just her ranting that she's putting up with his behavior, and she's only asking for him to help her out a little.
I'm with James, Stephanie Myer is a few years older than me, and Morman or not, she watched the Lost Boys back in the day. So happy to hear you 2 had a fantastic honeymoon and glad you're back!!! This is a childhood goodie that I still love!!! lol thank God for Graessel lol. We did that all the time with St Elmo's Fire and Chariots of Fire back in the day. The St Elmo's Fire had a song of the same name.
Pretty sure Schumacher had the actors for the Frog bros watch films like Rambo so they’re voices are weird because they’re trying to do impressions of him to seem cooler. There are so many things I could tell you about this film I love it so much.
This film came out when I was 11 years old. It was a watershed film for me. I listened to the soundtrack over and over again, when the VHS came out I watched it over 100 times and I still know every line by heart. David was my first crush, and when I went to summer camp I made everyone call me Star. After this film I went Goth and never looked back. Anyone saying they don't like this movie is seriously LAME.
I would love if you guys ever talked about Fright Night! I would say it was the first major movie to modernize vampires in the 80's, 2 years before The Lost Boys
In my last year of college, I watched this movie so frequently that my roommate had to put his foot down and tell me to cool it down and give it a break. I really wish that the sequels had been better.
It's been 4 years know since I've been asking you guys to do a kill count of the lost boys mainly in 2019 where i kept asking every video lol... every Friday after school i used to run home to put on the newest dead meat kill count... im so surprised that you haven't done a kill count of the lost boys he was always in your intro when he says "YOUR DEAD MEAT" Thank you for being apart of my childhood 💜
I thought it was pretty clear the deep voice Corey Feldman was doing was a character thing. The brothers take themselves super seriously but actually don’t really know what they’re doing and that’s part of that. It’s just a kid trying to be more grown up.
50:10 - So I had a friend who was in ministry school years ago and we asked him this question about how much water can be blessed at a time and the short answer is that you can bless any amount, but you have to intend it for a holy purpose. Like, you can't just bless an ocean for shits and giggles, but you can bless a pond or pool to be used as a large baptism area.
I just rewatched this and honestly when Micheal first sees David and started together, I wished she was going to say that her and her boyfriend dig his vibe
Lost boys is my favourite movie ngl- so excited to see you talking about it!! Also - if you’re listening to the phantom soundtrack, I’d recommend the 25th anniversary!!
So good to see you two again! And what a one-two you came back with of this episode and then all the Phantom talk! I'm still up to my eyeballs in my obsessions with both properties, so color me happy. My theory for why David didn't have a more explosive death, pun intended, was that Kiefer Sutherland was too pretty to blow up into gore and glitter. 😂 As it is, though, it makes it feel all the more tragic to me that once he's killed, all you see is a dead kid, especially with the child choir playing over the scene. Whether it was intentional or not, it harkens back to the theory about Peter Pan (which influenced the original script!) about Peter and the Lost Boys being the souls of dead children who never get to grow up. Gives me chills every time. Can't wait to see what you come out with for Phantom stuff! The book is a fave, and I'm SUPER stoked to see you cover the slasher adaptation with Robert Englund!
Welcome back!! And thank you so much for putting my books on the shelf on the podcast set. You guys have bo idea how amazing that is to me. Thank you so so much for all you do.
I’m so happy to see you guys back, and it’s nice to know that you’re time away was wonderful. Nice that you went to England and didn’t witness any 60s ghost or torture demons. Great to have you both back!!!
This is literally my favorite movie of all time , since the first time I’ve seen your channel and saw the intro with it I’ve been so stoked to see this !! Thank you
I never knew about phantom of the opera until I watched it for the first time on broadway for my dads birthday and became OBSESSED! I’m really looking forward to you guys talking about it and I also hope you guys cover stage fright too in your binge of phantom movies! Such a stupid campy movie! My coworker was the one who introduced me to the lost boys, she’s obsessed with the movies so I actually just recently watched the first one so perfect timing for this podcast! Love having you guys back!
The general rule is you can dilute holy water by 49% and the added water will all be holy. So if they added it one lil bowl of water at a time at first, the whole bathtub could be holy, but it probably took them a while to fill that damn tub
my favorite movie! so glad you guys finally covered it, and happy to hear you liked it more on a rewatch! fun fact: in the lost boys sequel comic from 2016, sax guy is revealed to be a local vampire slayer.
in reference to 49:00, fun fact: if you dont have enough holy water for your needs, i.e. baptisms, blessings, vampire slaying, you can add regular water to the holy water so long as the regular water doesn't exceed the amount of holy water. So long as your mixture is at least 51% holy water, it won't be diluted. However, many say you should only do this when absolutely necessary and you can only do it once, as even though the new holy water maintains all the properties of the original water, it doesn't maintain the ability to be diluted with non-blessed water. A priest can also bless as much water as they want and theoretically could bless the entire ocean if they so choose. I'm so glad that my catholic adjacent upbringing came in handy for once lol
I love that Martin was touched on because it’s one of my absolute favorites. I think the imagery and themes are so interesting and JA is such a delight to watch
I appreciate how you put the work in and know stuff about the movies, regardless of how you feel about the movie. I love when you hate movies and let us know, but you still have trivia.
Welcome back! Glad you had an amazing honeymoon! I adore this movie and several of Joel Schumacher's movies: Phone Booth (one of my favorite movies/ thrillers), Falling Down (very underrated and haunting), Batman Forever (loved it as a kid, have fun with it as an adult), Phantom of the Opera (beautiful), Flatliners (scary at points, but it is about forgiveness, which is unexpected), Veronica Guerin (a tragic biography), The Client, and A Time to Kill (both are solid John Grisham's adaptations).
This is one of my favorite movies, and hearing you guys talk about it makes me so happy! I listened while I was driving to work and kept getting so excited 🥰🥰
OMG that is such a sweet story about Damon Albarn. And I feel you, Chelsea. You hear so many horror stories about celebs you've loved for years that turn out to be A-holes IRL, and you have one in particular that you're like "please not this one!" What a relief! And what a nice surprise for your honeymoon!
The Lost Boys is a great movie to watch back to back with Near Dark as both are two sides of the same coin. They're both vampire films, but one treats being a vampire as rather fun and the other treats it as being kind of miserable. Both are great films, though. They also both have a great cast. I think they even came out the same year or maybe within a year of each other.
My Dad told me I went to that Santa Cruz Boardwalk when I went to California for the first time. Now that I’ve seen The Lost Boys I think it’s really cool that I’ve been to the exact location where the movie takes place
This film was apparently my favourite film as a child, apparently used to watch it literally everyday lol. I am 25 going on 26 now, re watched it around 2 weeks maybe 3 weeks back and loved every second of it.

This made my morning. I love Lost Boys!❤ Now we gotta get a Cameo from Kiefer Sutherland saying "Your Dead Meat!"
The Critter door ornament is fucking awesome! I would love to see a tour of the podcast room and all the easter eggs
Fun fact: when David grabbed Sam's legs and the frog brothers pull Sam i to the light and David's hand sets on fire and a tear runs down his face, this was actually because the contact lenses that kiefer was wearing were so uncomfortable it made him shed tears
"No two blood suckers go out the same way.
Some yell and scream (Marko), some go quietly (David), some explode (Dwayne), some implode (Paul)."
You'll just have to go back and have that pizza again 😂
lost boys will ALWAYS be my fave, i recently turned 19, and my friend got a video of Billy Wirth, (who played Dwayne, the vampire with long dark hair) saying happy birthday to me
Paul is my favorite vampire, love the extra personality he gets in the novel is amazing.
Rest in peace Brooke McCarter, Awesome Dude.
I was a little terrified to watch this podcast ep because I remember you guys saying you didn't like it and this is one of my favorite vampire movies, I'm very glad you've changed pace on it a bit. I was so terrified.
James had already said he changed his mind about it in the Whats Your Favorite Scary Movie episode but wasn't sure about Chelsea
Grandpa was my favorite character in the movie. Especially after the punchline at the end. 😊❤
I think its such an "of its era" movie, its hard to watch it as an adult for the first time and fully embrace it.
FINALLY!!!!! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOVIE TO BE COVERED IN SOME WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM FROM YOU TWO
I graduated HS in May, ‘87. I worked in a video store for two years in college. Took this home on VHS one night after its video release and have been hooked since. I went out the next day and bought the soundtrack on cassette!
Lost Boys is so good! One of my favorite movies and my favorite movie soundtrack.
I’ve requested this movie like 10 times for the Kill count it’s one of my favorite movies.
This movie is such a Halloween must watch for me. Its a classic. The song is so hauntingly beautiful I listen to it often.
This is me and my fathers “Movie” we watch it whenever it suits us and it really just hits the right spot every single time I love it!
Kiefer was one of my first celebrity crushes in general, and he was so great in this movie!
one of my fave vampire movies!! So glad you guys are talking about it!!
I would love if you guys ever talked about Fright Night! I would say it was the first major movie to modernize vampires in the 80's, 2 years before The Lost Boys
I cry every time as Roddy watched Ed die
Fun!! A good pairing with 80s Lost Boys could be the 90s Buffy the Vampire movie with Keiffer's dad Donald ✨🌙✨
In my last year of college, I watched this movie so frequently that my roommate had to put his foot down and tell me to cool it down and give it a break. I really wish that the sequels had been better.
It's been 4 years know since I've been asking you guys to do a kill count of the lost boys mainly in 2019 where i kept asking every video lol... every Friday after school i used to run home to put on the newest dead meat kill count... im so surprised that you haven't done a kill count of the lost boys he was always in your intro when he says "YOUR DEAD MEAT"
Thank you for being apart of my childhood 💜
you lived the same life as me
Thanks for making me feel old lol
I thought it was pretty clear the deep voice Corey Feldman was doing was a character thing. The brothers take themselves super seriously but actually don’t really know what they’re doing and that’s part of that. It’s just a kid trying to be more grown up.
The sax man is also in the Tina Turner We Don’t Need Another Hero Video and I’m pretty sure he toured with her as well.
Perhaps you had to be a kid in the 80’s when this movie came out to really appreciate it in this day and age.
Lost boys is my favourite movie ngl- so excited to see you talking about it!! Also - if you’re listening to the phantom soundtrack, I’d recommend the 25th anniversary!!
My favorite 80s vampire movie is Fright Night, but Lost Boys is also pretty great 👍
It's so hard to find the Roddy McDowell original now that the David Tenant remake is out.
"Michael" is said 114 times throughout the entire movie. At least according to an article I found on Google haha That's crazy
Just got to the end... Yeah, skip the sequels lmao
And let's not forget too, the little boy from Near Dark aka Joshua John Miller, is the little brother or stepbrother, of Jason Patric
Welcome back!! And thank you so much for putting my books on the shelf on the podcast set. You guys have bo idea how amazing that is to me. Thank you so so much for all you do.
Saxophone guy is actually a vampire hunter in one of the comics😂
I’m so happy to see you guys back, and it’s nice to know that you’re time away was wonderful. Nice that you went to England and didn’t witness any 60s ghost or torture demons. Great to have you both back!!!
This is literally my favorite movie of all time , since the first time I’ve seen your channel and saw the intro with it I’ve been so stoked to see this !! Thank you
We saw Jason Patric at a horror con in April. He still looks dang good.
One of my favorite movies ever. Just quintessential 80s vibes.
Lost Boys is one of my all time favorite movies, and almost 40 years later the soundtrack is still bumpin
It brings me so much joy to see you cover this movie! It's one of my favorite movies ever, even though it's cheesy as all hell.
I was having a not so great day but seeing this absolutely brightened my day!! It’s one of my favorite movies ever!
Marco from the lost boys has my whole heart and soul 35:11
Welcome back! We missed you! And what a way to come back , I LOVE the lost boys!
“Muse definitely has seen lost boys” is one of the most accurate and hilarious statements on the podcast
